Chapter 1698: Chapter 140 : Let Me Be Close

*Kryzen*

Everything hurt.

Even before I fully regained consciousness, that much was clear. Since I was feeling pain, I wasn’t dead, which was a good thing.

It even kind of hurt to breathe. I opened my eyes and shifted slightly beneath the thin sheet I was lying beneath.

The ceiling above me appeared to be painted black. It most definitely wasn’t the pale blue of the one back at the palace.

That was when the memories came rushing back. I sat up abruptly, immediately regretting it when pain shot through my shoulder. I cursed, the sound strangled and thick with sleep.

“Kryzen!”

The pain almost completely dissipated when warm, familiar hands landed on my arm. Briella’s vibrant green eyes were looking into mine. Concern was etched all over her gorgeous features.

“Briella,” I breathed. Ignoring the searing burn in my shoulder, I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her tightly to me. The relief I felt was nearly making me dizzy as I pressed my face into her neck, breathing her in.

She stiffened in my hold before immediately melting against me, her arms carefully wounding around my middle as I pressed her more tightly against my chest.

“I was so scared,” I murmured against her soft skin. “I thought I was going to lose you.”

“I was scared too,” she admitted quietly, sounding close to tears. “I’m so glad you’re awake. I was so worried. Kryzen, we–”

I stopped her there, kissing her fiercely, attacking her mouth with mine, and shooting my tongue into her.

She gasped and pulled away. “Kryzen, we can’t,” she protested, eyes wide. “You’re hurt and we–”

I cut her off with another kiss. “I’m fine,” I told her, pressing my lips to hers. “Please, Briella. I was so scared of losing you. Let me be close to you.”

Briella looked almost pained, but I could see the desire swimming in her eyes. She nodded, a tear slipping from one eye.

I kissed it away before claiming her mouth again. I was clearly in some kind of weird healing center, but whatever Briella had to say could wait. We were safe now, and we were together.

Right now, that was all that mattered.

Briella climbed onto the bed. I saw that she was in an extremely revealing dress. It was deep red and barely covered her ass. I grabbed her hips, pulling her to me. “What a naughty outfit you have on,” I said huskily, gripping her hips tightly. “It looks like you were ready for me all along.”

Briella just blinked up at me, still looking a bit apprehensive. I took that as the worry she must have felt while we were apart. I decided I was going to make her forget that ever happened. I laid her on the large, strange bed we were on and covered my body with hers, needing to feel every inch of her.

“I need to claim you now,” I said breathlessly, looking down at her. I grabbed the front of her low-cut dress and easily pulled it down, revealing her full breasts. I took one pink nipple in my mouth and played with the other, tweaking and pulling at it, causing my mate to groan. She reached up toward me, but I pinned her arms to her sides so that I could pull the dress cleanly off of her body.

Clothes began to fly as Briella tossed her dress and underwear on the floor. I had already been mostly naked when I awoke except for a pair of thin shorts, which I easily pulled off and dropped on the floor. I lowered myself over Briella again, pressing our warm bodies together, loving the feel of her nipples against the bare skin of my chest.

“Kryzen,” she moaned, further spurring my actions on. I grabbed her hips more roughly in my hands, pushing her thighs apart with my knee. I pressed a few kisses on her lower tummy, making her squirm in anticipation.

“Patience,” I chided with a smirk. I was feeling rather impatient myself, so I wasted no time lining up my length to her slick opening and shoving myself inside of her in one measured thrust.

Briella squeaked and curled her toes, already shuddering with pleasure as I filled her up. “More,” she begged, looking up at me with large eyes.

I could deny her nothing, especially that, so I gripped her hips more firmly and pulled her to me, burying myself even more deeply inside of her, relishing in her moist warmth as I slid inside of her with a desperate rhythm.

Briella had seemed so hesitant to lie with me at first, probably still traumatized by past events, but I wasn’t going to let that get in the way of our time together. I kissed her fiercely again, grinning when her whole body trembled beneath me. “You can cum for me,” I said with a purr, kissing her again adoringly as I pushed myself even deeper inside of her.

Briella obeyed, throwing her head back and shuddering beautifully. She wasn’t as vocal as she normally was, even seeming to be holding back quite a bit, but I let it slide, finding it sexy that she had to control her beautiful sounds.

I delved faster inside of her, gliding in her warm essence before I too succumbed to the pressure and allowed myself to release my seed deep into my mate. I bent over her, covering her body completely with mine as our bodies trembled together.

Briella was looking up at me with hazy eyes as I carefully pulled out of her, rolling off of her spent form so I could lie beside her. My shoulder was still protesting, but I didn’t care. I pulled Briella snugly against my chest. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

We laid there for a while before Briella pushed herself up on her elbows to look at me. “Are you really alright?” she asked. “You were hurt pretty badly, and there wasn’t much I could do but clean your wounds as best as I could.”

“I’m fine,” I said, and I meant it. We were together now, but I blinked in confusion at her, trying to make sense of the apprehension that was all over her face. Now that I had been able to be close to my mate, my instincts were kicking in a lot better. Dread filled me as I realized where we were. I locked eyes with Briella. “What happened?”

Briella blinked away tears as we got up and got dressed, her in the skimpy red dress and me in some thin brown pants and a loose black shirt Briella found in the wardrobe.

We were still in the land of shadows. Malphas had locked us up in this room. I wandered the room. There were no windows to see out of. The only way out appeared to be the door. I tried conjuring up a shield, hoping the energy could penetrate it, but the dark magic that had been warded on the door was far too powerful.

We were trapped.

“They were going to kill you unless I agreed to marry Tian,” Briella informed me tearfully as she sat on the edge of the bed tiredly, looking completely defeated after we searched for a way out of the room.

Anger coursed through me, causing me to see red for a moment. I forced myself to calm down with much difficulty. Briella needed me to be level-headed. She was clearly distressed.

I stepped in front of her before pulling her up so she was standing in front of me. I sat where she had been on the edge of the bed and guided her so she was standing between my knees. She was a small woman, so we were almost eye to eye in this position. I only had to look up very slightly to meet her gaze.

“That simply isn’t going to happen,” I told her firmly. I squeezed her hands tightly in mine, making sure she wasn’t about to break eye contact. “You are my wife, my mate. No demon lord in existence can change that.”

Briella wasn’t the least bit comforted by my words. “Malphas’ plan is to combine our powers to make himself stronger,” she said. “Apparently, he can’t do that unless Tian and I are joined in some way. It’s going to be some kind of binding ceremony.”

Fear coursed through me at the thought of Briella going through with this.

Briella’s lower lip quivered. “He’s too strong, Kryzen,” she said brokenly, ducking her chin so I couldn’t see the tears forming in her eyes. “You weren’t there when I even thought about using my powers against him. Before I could even build the energy up inside me, he could tell. He warned me that I would regret it if I tried to resist him, resist them.”

“We have to resist him,” I told her fiercely. “We can’t let him have your powers, Briella. He could use them against our entire kingdom. We have to fight.”

Briella bit her lip hard. I worried for a moment that she would bite it hard enough to make herself bleed. “I won’t put you in danger if I can help it,” she said at last, looking helplessly at me.

“Fighting them isn’t putting me in danger,” I promised her. I gave her a tiny grin. “You don’t have to worry about me. I’m going to be beside you forever, just like we promised in our vows.”

Briella managed to smile at that, and then it transformed into a smirk. “Our roles seemed to have reversed,” she said. “Aren’t you usually the overbearing, overprotective one in this marriage?”

I chuckled lightly, cupping her face in my hands and cradling her tenderly. “I wouldn’t call myself overprotective,” I said. “It feels absolutely necessary to be just the right amount of protective when I’m married to someone this precious.”

I could feel Briella’s face growing warm beneath my fingertips. “That should be my line, given the circumstances,” she said.

“No,” I argued at once. “I am going to be protecting you. As your husband and mate, I will defend you from anyone who thinks they can force you into marrying them. You are not going through with this. We will find a way out, even if I have to tear down this entire city myself.”

This time, when Briella’s lip found its way between her teeth again, I pulled her to me so I could kiss her, forcing her to let go of her abused lip. “We can’t give up now,” I told her. “Don’t forget that we defeated an entire army of possessed demon shadow creatures, Briella. You are not helpless by any means. In fact, you are the most resilient and stubborn person I know.”

I could tell I was finally getting through to my mate. She smirked. “Are you saying you don’t know yourself?” she asked.

“My stubbornness is unrivaled, it’s true,” I said. “Which is why we’re going to find a way out of this mess. Those two don’t realize that they have imprisoned the two most stubborn people in existence.”

Briella nodded. “You’re right,” she said. “I’m sorry for wanting to give up. I felt so helpless being imprisoned here, and then when they brought her in all beat up and unconscious, I just–”

“Shh,” I said soothingly, pulling her into my chest and kissing the top of her head. I rubbed her back gently. “I’m fine. They can’t get rid of me that easily. Besides, you want to know something?”

Briella pulled away and tilted her head, her eyes curious. “What?”

I smirked. “I have a plan.”
