Chapter 1685: Chapter 127 : Don’t Leave Me

*Kryzen*

I cradled Emberly in my arms, the weight of her tiny form both delicate and grounding. As I gazed upon Briella’s serene face, my heart swelled, heavy with a love so profound that it bordered on pain. Each gentle rise and fall of her chest reassured me, reminding me of the incredible journey she had endured to bring our daughter into the world. I was glad she was finally able to find some rest. It had been a long time since I’d seen her sleep so peacefully.

I turned my attention to the tiny little thing in my arms, and I couldn’t help but smile.

"Look at you, little one," I whispered to Emberly, careful not to disturb the tranquility of the room. "Your mother is a warrior, and you, my dear, are our miracle."

The protectiveness that surged through me was fierce, a primal instinct that had taken root the moment Emberly came into our world. It wrapped around my soul like the ivy that clung to the ancient walls of the Crimson Palace where I had grown up, unyielding and ever-growing.

"Your strength, Briella, is something to behold," I murmured softly, even though she could not hear me. Her face was a canvas of peace, untouched by the struggles she had faced. Emberly, with her rosebud lips and soft, downy hair, was the embodiment of beauty.

In them both, I saw the radiance of the stars that lit the skies above Embervale, a resplendent glow that would guide me through any darkness.

"May you shine just as bright, my sweet Emberly. May you know the power of your spirit the way your mother does," I said softly, a silent vow hanging between each word.

Watching Briella sleep, I couldn’t help but marvel at her courage. She had faced the challenge of childbirth with the grace and determination of a seasoned warrior. She truly was amazing, and I thanked the Goddess for every day I got to spend with her, grateful for every moment I was at her side.

"Emberly," I said to my daughter, her tiny hand curling around my finger, "your mother is incredible. You’ve got a legacy of resilience to live up to." My voice was hushed, but it carried the weight of my awe and respect for the woman who had brought us this precious life. “You come from a long line of strong women. Your mother is proof of that.”

I sent a silent prayer to the Goddess, asking her to bless my daughter with the same fortitude that lived within Briella. She would need that strength and resilience in the years to come. As I gazed at the slumbering form of my love, a resolve settled deep within me. I would move mountains to keep them safe and ensure they never knew a day without my protection or affection. They deserved nothing less than love and safety for all the days of their lives.

As if sensing my presence, Briella stirred, her eyelids fluttering open to reveal those bright green eyes that always seemed to see right through me. A tired yet radiant smile graced her lips, and my heart skipped a beat at the sight.

"Kryzen," she murmured, her voice weak but filled with warmth, "come, sit with me."

I obliged, carefully maneuvering myself onto the bed, mindful not to jostle her or our daughter. With a gentleness born of reverence, I cradled our daughter between us, watching as Briella’s gaze softened at the sight of Emberly nestled in my arms.

"Isn’t she perfect?" Briella whispered, her fingertips brushing against Emberly’s cheek with the lightest touch. Her empathy, even in her own recovery, shone through. The love she bore for both of us was boundless and never-ending. I only hoped I could return that love.

"Perfect, just like her mother," I replied, leaning in to press a tender kiss on Briella’s forehead. In that simple gesture, our connection felt stronger than ever. The connection between us was palpable, an unspoken conversation of gratitude and devotion flowing through the simplicity of our actions.

We lingered in that quiet intimacy, the three of us cocooned in a world of our own making. The joy of watching Briella with our daughter was short-lived as her breaths grew shallow, a soft rasp marring each exhale. I leaned closer, my senses heightened to every change in her. Concern tightened my chest as I leaned in, my gaze searching hers for reassurance.

"Briella?" My voice was barely above a whisper, but the concern was evident.

"Kryzen..." she breathed out, a ghost of a smile on her lips, "I’m just... tired. That’s all. Giving birth is hard work."

"Rest now," I urged gently, cupping her face for a moment before standing. Gently, I laid Emberly into her bassinet. As I tucked her in, her eyelids began to droop, and her small fingers curled instinctively. I pressed a kiss to her forehead before standing. I took one last look at Briella, her eyelids fluttering in a losing battle against sleep.

She was sleeping now, where she hadn’t been before, but this seemed problematic too. I quietly slipped out of the room, my thoughts turning to Kai and the answers he may bring.

The palace corridors were quiet, save for the muted tread of my boots on the polished stone floor. I could hear the quiet hum of distant activity, but it seemed as though these halls were deserted.

Urgency spurred me forward, each step a heartbeat in the race to reach Kai. Finally, I found him in the medicinal gardens, his hands busy with the healing herbs that lined the pathways. I noticed his fingers were stained with the juices of healing herbs he’d likely been crushing.

"Kai." My voice cut through the serene atmosphere. The urgency in my tone drew his attention immediately.

"Kryzen? What’s wrong?" Worry creased his brow as he stood up, wiping his hands on his trousers. His gaze searched mine for answers as he straightened.

"It’s Briella. She’s... Something is not right," I replied, urgency tightening my chest. “Can you... just come, please.” I gestured back toward the palace.

Brow still furrowed, he nodded and began to follow. Luckily, he was able to match my urgent pace. I wasn’t sure I could slow down even if I wanted to.

"Her labor was more taxing than any I’ve seen," Kai began, falling into step beside me. His voice was calm but carried an undercurrent of concern. "And her dreams, they’ve been vivid, intense. It could be the Embervale energy mingling strangely with her body. Their magic is unpredictable, especially around birth."

I nodded, the weight of his words settling heavily upon me. The very essence of Embervale, with its potent magic and untamed energy, could hold both blessings and dangers. She was Luna of this realm for a reason. Her magic—her very being—was tied to it in a way no one ever else had been before.

But at that moment, all I could focus on was reaching Briella. I felt a flicker of hope amongst the panic knowing that if anyone could help her find strength, it was Kai.

We entered the room quietly, not wanting to disturb either of my girls. My heart was in my throat as I rushed to the bedside. The rise and fall of my wife’s chest helped me breathe a little easier. But there was still something wrong, something not right, and I needed Kai to fix it.

I couldn’t live without her. I didn’t even want to imagine it. I turned to our daughter and found that she was sleeping as peacefully as she had been when I’d left them.

Kai’s gaze was unwavering as he assessed Briella. His expression was unreadable as he took in the sight of his sister lying pale and fragile on the bed. The room seemed too still, the silence a suffocating presence that hung between us, broken only by the soft, uneven whispers of Briella’s breath.

“Please,” I whispered as Kai ran his hands through the air over Briella’s still form. “Please do not take her from me. I beg of you.”

"Kryzen," Kai said, finally breaking the quiet that enveloped us, "when she gathers her strength back, you both must journey to Celestial Valley. This cannot wait any longer."

My heart clenched at the thought of moving Briella in her weakened state, but resolve steadied my voice. "We will go as soon as she is well enough," I agreed, watching over Briella with a protective eye.

"We might not have the time to wait, Kryzen. The energy there is different, ancient. It might help her recover and control the unpredictable Embervale magic within her," he explained with a certainty that came from years of studying the arcane. “She needs to make the connection. The spiritual journey may help her find the root of the problem plaguing her. Maybe it’s something happening in Embervale that we are unaware of just yet.”

"Will it be safe?" I asked, the concern evident in my furrowed brow.

"Safer than staying here where we can’t fully understand what’s happening to her," Kai replied, brushing a lock of dark hair from Briella’s damp forehead.

I nodded, knowing he spoke the truth, even if it was a truth laced with uncertainty. "Then we’ll prepare for the journey as soon as she can travel," I said, determination stiffening my spine.

Kai opened his mouth to protest, but I cut him off. “I will not move her before she’s ready, Kai. I will not put her at greater risk. When she is well enough to go, we will go. And if she worsens, then I will carry her every step of the way if I must.” Briella’s well-being was my command. No distance or danger would keep me from fighting for her health.

"Rest now, love," I whispered, leaning down to press a kiss onto Briella’s forehead. "Rest and gather your strength. Fight this, Briella. I can’t do this without you. Emberly can’t do this without you. We need you, love. Please.”

Kai nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation as he watched over his sister with a mixture of worry and determination. The air in the room felt heavy with the weight of uncertainty, but there was a glimmer of hope burning in our hearts.

As Briella lay there, her breaths coming shallow and uneven, I couldn’t help but imagine the worst. Maybe if I had paid more attention when she had mentioned her dreams. Maybe if I had forced her to the healers sooner. Maybe if we had called Kai in earlier...

The guilt weighed heavy on my heart, threatening to consume me in its suffocating grip. I sat by Briella’s side, watching over her as she lay still, her face a mask of pain even in her unconscious state. Kai moved quietly around the room, gathering the essentials and preparing another potion for her.

“Please, Briella.”
