Chapter 1662: Chapter 104 : A Ball to Remember

*Kryzen*

Our capital was finally finished. There was no more construction, just a beautiful finished product that would stand the test of time. It perfectly suited us with its sleek spires and cobblestone avenues lined with vibrant shops and even more vibrant people.

I couldn’t be more pleased with how it had turned out. Now our capital was host to its very first ball. The air thrummed with excitement.

Briella and our staff had done a wonderful job. It was most certainly a ball fit for royalty—something that still didn’t feel real. I took Briella’s hand in mine and gave a reassuring squeeze as she swept her eyes across the still-empty ballroom in a final assessment.

She took a deep, cleansing breath, eyes closed. When she opened them, she was no longer just Briella Black, she was Queen Briella, Luna of Embervale.

“It’s time,” she announced to the waiting staff.

As the doors to the ballroom opened, finally ready to receive visitors, I stared out at the sea of faces that shimmered under the soft glow of crystal chandeliers.

"Welcome, Lady Tamsin," I greeted one of the neighboring nobles, my voice steady despite the flutter in my chest. A surge of relief washed through me. After endless months of planning and construction, we had built something truly magnificent.

"Your Majesty, this is splendid," Lady Tamsin exclaimed, her eyes wide as they took in the vaulted ceiling and intricate tapestries adorning the walls.

"Thank you," I replied, nodding graciously as another guest approached.

"King Kryzen," boomed a deep voice. I turned to see Sir Harrow, his own pride mirrored in his broad grin. "You’ve outdone yourself."

"I can’t take all the credit, Sir Harrow," I said, glancing across the room where she stood, the embodiment of elegance. Briella, resplendent in emerald green, was a vision that drew every eye. Her gown clung to her petite frame, accentuating her warrior’s poise, while the color matched her bright green eyes perfectly. She was every inch the queen this kingdom deserved.

"Your queen looks stunning tonight," Sir Harrow remarked, following my gaze.

"Yes, she does," I agreed, feeling a warmth that extended far beyond mere pride.

"King Kryzen, your kingdom is the beacon of hope we’ve all been yearning for," a lady in blue commented as she passed by, her words sincere.

"Thank you, Lady Verena," I said, bowing slightly. "We aim to be just that."

"Ah, there she is," I heard Briella chuckle from behind me, her voice carrying the unmistakable timbre of mirth.

I turned to find her approaching, her hand brushing against mine in a fleeting but electric touch. "Having fun, my king?" she teased, her eyes sparkling.

"So much fun," I replied, the corners of my mouth lifting involuntarily, "especially now that you’re here."

"Flatterer," she quipped, though her blush betrayed her pleasure at the compliment. "Shall we greet the rest of our guests together?"

"Nothing would please me more," I said, offering her my arm, which she took with a grace that made my heart skip a beat.

We faced the incoming tide of well-wishers united not only by duty but by a bond that seemed to grow stronger with each passing moment. I had always hoped for a love like this, but the reality had far surpassed any of my fantasies. I fell more in love with Briella each moment.

The grandeur of the ballroom echoed with the clamor of a hundred conversations, each one a testament to the labor and love that had birthed this kingdom from stone and dream. As I moved through the crowd, an elderly couple clasped my hands in theirs, their eyes alight with wonder and joy.

"King Kryzen," the woman said, her voice trembling with emotion, "this place is more beautiful than we could have ever imagined."

"Your reign will be blessed," her companion added, his deep voice resounding with conviction. "You and Queen Briella are the heart of this realm."

I felt humbled by their words, but my attention was soon drawn to Briella as she spoke to a group of children, her laughter mingling with theirs. Her empathy shone like a beacon. When she caught my eye across the room, the pride in her gaze was mirrored in my chest.

"Isn’t it wonderful to see them so happy?" Briella mused as she joined me again, her green eyes reflecting the opulence around us.

"Every smile is a reminder of why we’ve done all this," I replied, squeezing her hand gently.

"May we never forget," she whispered, the weight of our responsibility settling between us for a moment before the next guest approached us with praises.

As the evening unwound like a golden thread, the thrum of excitement grew palpable when Briella’s parents arrived. She disentangled herself from my side and hurried over to them, her arms wrapping around her mother and father in a heartfelt embrace. Their faces were full of pride, and her mother’s eyes glistened with unshed tears.

"Darling, you’ve outdone yourself," her father exclaimed, holding her at arm’s length to take her in. "This kingdom is a reflection of your spirit, strong and full of grace."

"Thank you, Father," Briella replied, her voice thick with emotion. "It means everything to have you here."

"Your mother and I wouldn’t have missed this for the world," he assured her, drawing her back into a hug.

The murmur of the crowd hushed as my parents entered the grand ballroom, their heads held high with a dignity that matched the stately columns lining the walls. Mother’s gown shimmered like the surface of a still lake at twilight, casting reflections that danced with each graceful step she took. Father, ever the stoic figure in his formal attire, bore the crest of the Stormfall family—a homage to our lineage and the expectations that came with it.

"Kryzen," my mother said, her voice laced with an emotion I couldn’t quite place. "You’ve built more than just a kingdom. You’ve crafted a legacy."

"Thank you, Mother," I replied, taking her hand and placing a kiss upon it. "Your presence here brings honor to this celebration."

Father clapped a firm hand on my shoulder. His eyes, so much like my own, held a rare glint of approval. "We’re proud of you, son. And Briella is magnificent. Luna of Embervale... I can’t believe it. But at the same time, nothing makes more sense."

"I couldn’t agree more," I laughed, feeling a surge of warmth at the mention of her name. “She is exactly what this realm needs. I only hope I can live up to the expectations being her king brings.”

“You will do a fine job, Kryzen,” my mother scolded. “You may not have been raised for royalty, but you were raised for leadership. Do not forget we know your heart, and it has the strength of a true leader, my son. You will be a wonderful king, and the two of you will reign fair and just.”

“Thank you, Mother.”

As the last of the guests trickled in, excitement buzzed through the air. Briella caught my eye from across the room. I nodded, understanding the silent cue. It was time to begin the festivities.

"Shall we?" I offered my arm to Briella, who accepted with the grace of the queen she was meant to be.

"Let’s," she replied, her smile reflecting the bright future we were stepping into together.

With the eyes of our kingdom upon us, we ascended the dais where our thrones stood as symbols of our promise to serve and not power. The light from the chandeliers above painted us in a golden hue, casting long shadows that stretched toward the hopeful faces of our people.

As I wrapped my arm around Briella, the gentle hum of conversation from our assembled subjects filled the air. The chandeliers above cast a warm glow on her face, highlighting the regal poise she carried so naturally. We stood before them, not as distant monarchs but as two souls dedicated to the prosperity of our people.

"Friends, family, and cherished guests," I began, my voice echoing through the vastness of the ballroom. "Tonight marks not just the birth of a capital but the beginning of a new era for our realm, an era where each of you plays a part in weaving the tapestry of our shared destiny."

Briella stood by my side, her head held high. Her emerald eyes shone with the same determination that had won the heart of every soul in attendance—myself most of all.

"Thank you, each and every one of you," I said, my voice steady and clear. "Your presence here tonight honors us, and your efforts have lifted this kingdom from the depths of mere vision to the soaring reality we stand in now."

Briella’s hand found mine, her grip firm and reassuring. "This is your home as much as it is ours," she added, her voice soft yet carrying. "Together, we have built not just walls and towers, but a community—a family."

The crowd murmured their approval. I felt their collective hope resonate through the grand ballroom. "We vow to be rulers who listen," I continued, meeting the eyes of those nearest, "and lead with kindness and fairness. We will be the guardians of peace and the champions of justice."

Nods of agreement rippled through the room like waves upon the shore. For a moment, all was perfect.

"Let us dance into this new age together!" Briella exclaimed, her laughter ringing out like a beautiful melody.

"Let the ball commence!" Briella declared, her voice carrying the strength of her warrior spirit.

As our address drew to a close, the orchestra swelled, filling the space with the first notes of the night’s revelry.

The applause that followed was thunderous, giving me hope that the bond we had forged with our people would last for generations. I pressed a kiss to the top of Briella’s head, breathing in the scent of her dark, wavy hair.

We stepped back, planning to take our thrones for a few songs before taking to the dancefloor ourselves. After all, this was a ball.

But then, a flicker of movement near the entrance snatched my attention away from the festivities. My heart stalled and then hammered against my ribs as recognition dawned. Drius, with his neatly cropped brown hair and hazel eyes that seemed to gleam even in the dim light, was making his way into the ballroom.

I narrowed my eyes, the warmth of the moment chilled by his sudden appearance. Questions raced through my mind. How, why, and what could he possibly want? Briella, sensitive as ever to the shift in my mood, glanced up at me with questioning eyes.

"Is everything alright, Kryzen?" she whispered, concern lacing her words.
