Sold as the Alpha King's Breeder-Chapter 1625 - 67 : Learning Something Deeper
*Briella*
The mist from the waterfall kissed my cheeks as I stood before its towering presence, a sheer curtain of water cascading down into the basin below. The girls gathered around me, their eyes bright with anticipation.
"Sing for us, Briella," one of them urged, her voice like the tinkling of bells. "Let the falls hear your voice."
I hesitated. It was not because I doubted my strength as a warrior or the depth of my empathy, but because this was new. It was a form of magic that was both thrilling and alien to me. Yet the urge to please these kindred spirits, to mingle my soul with theirs through song, spurred me forward.
Taking a deep breath and feeling the cool spray on my skin and the gentle caress of the wind, I opened my mouth and let out a melody. It was an old lullaby my mother used to sing to Kai and me when shadows grew long and the fire’s glow was our only light.
As the notes soared, something miraculous unfolded before my very eyes. The water began to shimmer, glowing with a spectral light that matched the cadence of my voice. It twirled and leaped toward me as if dancing to the rhythm of my song, leaving me stunned and breathless.
"Can you feel it, Briella?" another girl asked, her voice barely above a whisper and filled with wonder. "The water is alive with your magic. Push more into your song. Let it flow through you."
Encouragement flowed from each word, bolstering my courage. I sang again, this time, focusing and channeling every drop of magic within me into the clear tones that spilled forth. Once, twice, thrice... I tried, feeling little more than a ripple in response.
But on the fourth attempt, a surge of connection jolted through me, a bond between myself and the element before me. My song took on a resonant quality, and the water responded with eagerness, bending and shaping itself to my will. It was like coaxing a stubborn friend to dance. Once they found the rhythm, they were unstoppable.
"Look! She’s doing it!" exclaimed one of the girls, clapping her hands with joy.
Spellbound by the spectacle, I watched as the waterfall bowed to my command, each droplet a note in the symphony I conducted. The sensation was intoxicating. Power and harmony intertwined, a testament to the strength within me and the new wonders that awaited in this land of light and shadow.
"Your magic is incredible," said another girl, her voice tinged with awe.
Smiling, I let the last note fade. The water settled back into its natural course. I turned to face my companions, their smiles mirroring my triumph.
"Thank you," I breathed out, my heart still racing with the thrill of discovery. "I never knew such a connection was possible."
"Neither did we, until now," one of them replied, her gaze reflecting a shared exhilaration. "You are full of surprises, Briella Black."
Arista, the Alpha’s daughter, stepped forward and offered her hand. “Can I show you more?”
Arista’s touch was light on my palm, but it sent a ripple of excitement through me. She beckoned with a nod and led me toward the cascading water that seemed to hold its breath in anticipation of our approach. As we stepped closer, the waterfall parted as if by an unseen hand, revealing the mouth of a hidden cave.
"Come," Arista urged, her voice a melody of adventure.
The cool mist from the waterfall kissed my face. I marveled at the magic that allowed us passage. Inside, the air held a different kind of freshness, ancient and untouched. The cave opened around us, its walls glistening with moisture and the echo of dripping water playing a soft tune.
"Your quick grasp of our ways is unheard of for an outsider," Arista said, her bright eyes reflecting the subdued light within our newfound sanctuary.
"Is it?" I asked, my curiosity piqued. My heart raced with the thrill of this discovery, a stark contrast to the calm demeanor I usually kept.
"Yes," she replied, a hint of admiration coloring her tone. "I want to show you something special."
"Lead the way." I couldn’t hide the eagerness in my voice. It resonated within the stone walls, mingling with the sound of the serene ripples that surrounded us.
"Here," Arista whispered, guiding me deeper into the cavern. It felt sacred, like a place where secrets were kept and shared only with those who truly belonged.
"Thank you, Arista."
The cool touch of the water sent shivers down my spine as Arista and I stood at the edge of an underwater precipice. "I have to confess," I started, a nervous chuckle escaping my lips, "my swimming skills are... Well, they’re not exactly the stuff of legend."
Arista’s laughter bubbled up, soft and musical. "Briella, trust me," she said, her gaze steady and reassuring. "You possess more strength than you know, and the water is part of who we are. It will guide you as it does for all of us in Astral Haven."
Her confidence was infectious. Despite the flutter of doubt, I nodded, allowing trust to anchor me. Together we took a step forward, plunging into the depths below.
The world transformed beneath the surface, a kaleidoscope of colors weaving through the darkness as we descended. My chest tightened with the effort to keep the precious air locked within. Crystals adorned the walls of the tunnel we swam through, their myriad hues casting rainbows that danced like sprites in the watery gloom.
"Isn’t it beautiful?" Arista’s voice echoed in my mind, clear despite the crushing silence of our submerged surroundings.
"Stunning," I managed to think back, wondering about this telepathic exchange. Each stroke propelled us further, but my lungs began to burn, the need for air clawing at my throat. Panic, sharp and sudden, seized me. My strokes became erratic, desperation setting in as the darkness of the deep whispered of an end I wasn’t ready to meet.
"Breathe, Briella," Arista’s calm voice pierced through the fog of my fear. "Just breathe."
I shook my head vigorously, bubbles escaping in a silent plea. But her eyes, full of conviction, locked onto mine. In them, I found an odd sense of peace. With a last shred of courage, I opened my mouth and drew in what should have been water.
But it wasn’t.
Air, sweet and life-giving, filled my lungs. My eyes widened in shock, and a laugh of relief and wonder escaped me, sending more bubbles to join those that had been born of my fear.
"See? You can do this," Arista encouraged, her smile bright beneath the luminescent glow of the crystals.
"Thank you," I thought back, my heart swelling with gratitude. I followed her deeper still, the bond between us strengthened by the shared secret of breathing beneath the waves.
With newfound courage pulsing through my veins, I followed Arista’s lead. The water felt like silk against my skin, an embrace from the sea itself, and my fear dissipated with each breath I drew in. We swam side by side through the tunnel, a spectacular array of light dancing over us as we passed beneath the embedded crystals.
"Look at you," Arista’s voice echoed in my mind, vibrant and warm. "You’re a natural."
I could only grin back, feeling a rush of exhilaration with the realization that I was breathing, truly breathing, underwater. The sensation was nothing short of miraculous. It defied logic, science, and every rule I’d ever learned.
Arista’s hand found mine, her grip both gentle and reassuring. We navigated the winding path of the underwater tunnel, the water parting before us as if honoring our passage. The light grew brighter, and we emerged into an expansive cavern that took my breath away—if such a thing were still possible in this wonderous aquatic world.
My gaze swept across the cavern, where schools of fish glimmered like living jewels. They moved in perfect harmony, their scales reflecting the iridescent glow of the cavern’s luminescence. It was an underwater mosaic, a masterpiece painted by nature’s deft hand.
"Is this real?" I asked, my voice hushed in reverence.
"More real than anything," Arista replied, a soft chuckle coloring her tone. "This is the heart of our magic."
Spellbound, I watched the delicate dance of the fish, entranced by the artistry of their movements. The melody of the rushing water filled my ears, a symphony composed by the cavern itself. It was pure, unadulterated magic.
"Your song, Briella, will join with this place," Arista explained. "Our music intertwines with the magic here, weaving strength and beauty into every note."
"Music and magic." The words felt like a promise on my tongue that held the key to untold mysteries and power. In this hidden sanctuary, I sensed the potential that lay within me, waiting to be unlocked.
"Imagine what you could do," Arista whispered, her eyes reflecting the myriad lights around us. "Your voice could shape the very waters."
Excitement fluttered in my chest, a desire to learn, grow, and become a part of this enchanting world. I wanted to sing, let my voice soar and meld with the currents, and feel the magic course through me as it did the waters of the cavern.
"Will you teach me?" I asked, hope threading my words.
Arista’s smile was all the answer I needed.
"Can you hear it?" Arista’s voice was clear even beneath the waves, a testament to the power threading the liquid expanse around us. "The song of the tides?"
I nodded, feeling vibrations tickle my ears, a siren call to something primal within me. "It’s enchanting," I said. My voice sounded strange yet beautiful in this submerged reality.
"Each current carries a note, each wave a chord," Arista explained, her hand sweeping through the water, guiding the flow as if conducting an orchestra. "Together they amplify our magic."
My heart raced with excitement. The idea that my voice could intertwine with such splendor stirred a longing I hadn’t known. "How do I learn to be part of this?" I asked, my question bubbling up eagerly.
Arista smiled, her eyes sparkling like the surface above on a sunny day. "Time, practice, and an open heart," she said. "You’ve already got a connection, Briella. Most spend years reaching just for that."
"Really?" Doubt flickered, but the evidence was undeniable. The water had responded to me. It had danced at the sound of my voice.
"Truly." Her affirmation was warm and encouraging. "You’re a quick learner, and your empathy resonates with the very essence of our craft."
I wanted to respond and express the gratitude bubbling inside me, but no words came. Instead, I let out a joyous laugh, a simple sound that rippled through the water, causing the fish to dart around us in a vibrant flurry.
Hours later, when we resurfaced and the reality of gravity embraced me again, exhaustion gripped my limbs. It was a sweet fatigue, one born of discovery and wonder. I made my way back to where Kryzen waited, his stoic presence a grounding contrast to the ethereal experience I’d just lived.
I collapsed beside him on the bed, my body heavy but my spirit soaring. He turned to look at me, his gray eyes piercing through the haze of my tiredness.
"Don’t get too comfortable here, Briella," he cautioned, his voice low and steady.
His warning was like a cold splash of water, jolting me back to the challenges that lay ahead.
I felt the weight of Kryzen’s gaze as I nestled into the softness of the bed, my muscles still humming from the day’s revelations. His words echoed in my mind, a reminder that amidst the wonders of this place, danger and duty awaited us.
"Kryzen," I began, turning to face him, "I know why we’re here. I haven’t forgotten about our mission." My voice was firm, but I reached for his hand, seeking the reassurance of his touch.
His fingers intertwined with mine, but the furrow between his brows deepened. "It’s easy to get swept up in all this," he said, his thumb gently stroking the back of my hand. "But we can’t afford to lose focus."
I nodded, understanding his concern. "We’ll take it one day at a time," I assured him, my heart filled with a newfound conviction. "Today, I learned something incredible, and who knows what tomorrow holds?"
Kryzen studied me for a long moment, the stormy gray of his eyes reflecting a whirlwind of thoughts. Finally, he sighed, the tension in his jaw easing. "I trust you, Briella," he said softly, pulling me closer.
There was comfort in his embrace, the warmth of his body chasing away any lingering chill from the depths of the underwater cavern. I let out a contented sigh, feeling the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest against my cheek.
"Thank you," I whispered, gratitude lacing my words, "for believing in me."
"Always," he murmured back, his breath tickling my forehead.
With the gentle pull of sleep tugging at my senses, I snuggled deeper into Kryzen’s arms. At that moment, the complexities of our quest seemed distant, muted by the simple act of resting beside someone who shared my resolve.
"Goodnight," I breathed out, already succumbing to the call of dreams.
"Goodnight, Briella," Kryzen replied, his voice a soothing lullaby that carried me into slumber.
