Chapter 353: Chapter 353: Yacht

The next day, taking advantage of the overcast skies, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng left the base again. They drove to a distant location and then switched to a helicopter, making their way back to Binhai.

Familiar with the route, their journey was smoother this time, and they went straight to the seaside.

There were more people on the beach than before, but fortunately, they landed farther away since many were harvesting from the sea or fishing.

Living by the sea for sustenance was something those who grew up in coastal cities understood well. Relying on seafood to fill their stomachs wasn’t hard—it could provide necessary nutrition and minerals. They were just unaware of the animal mutations.

Or perhaps they knew but had no choice. Aside from the bases or major organizations, the rest practically had no stored food left. Edible items were becoming scarcer, so whatever they could find, they ate. Such was the new normal.

Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng didn’t approach these people since they weren’t sure how eating mutated animals would affect them, and they didn’t have the time to intervene. They rode their motorbikes as quickly as possible in search of the yacht club, which, being adjacent to the coastal park, wasn’t difficult to find.

Most yachts here were corroded by acid rain, but some were indoors as part of an exhibition and thus untouched, useless to others.

Gu Pan picked out a few good ones and took them. Afterwards, they swiftly departed. They considered gathering some salt, but remembering the pollution of seawater, they abandoned that plan. They searched nearby salt fields for uncontaminated, semi-finished salt as most finished products had been taken.

However, after checking several places, they found none. Although slightly disappointed, they had been prepared for this possibility and didn’t let it dampen their spirits. Of course, they didn’t come out for nothing. They collected whatever they could—cars, motorcycles, even some windows and doors. Anything was valuable for the future construction at Mount Everest. They planned to propose to Lu Jianguo, when the time was nearly right, to head to Everest first. This team could make a significant contribution to the construction efforts there.

Having gathered enough, they didn’t waste time and flew straight back. It wasn’t worth taking risks outdoors with the changeful weather; safety was the priority.

Their trip was quick but not without cost, yet the several yachts they managed to obtain were worth it.

After safely landing, they drove back to the Underground Entertainment City with one yacht to find Gu Ci, at least to trade it for the fuel they’d used.

Of course, to Gu Ci, this yacht was certainly worth it.

Gu Ci, informed by his subordinates of Gu Pan’s and Lu Ruisheng’s return with a yacht, hurried out to meet them. novelbuddy-cσ๓

Seeing the yacht behind the truck, Gu Ci couldn’t help but pat Lu Ruisheng’s back. "Brother, I really don’t know how to thank you."

Everyone understood that in any weather change, boats could be lifesaving, yet inland they’d been rare. Even if there were some tour boats on rivers and lakes, private yachts were mostly found only in coastal cities like Binhai.

Lu Ruisheng smiled and said, "Brother Gu, you were just in luck to find the right source."

Gu Ci suggested moving indoors, "Let’s go inside to talk. I’ll definitely set a good table for you today." He supervised the transportation of the yacht to the storage facility and assigned people to watch over it before he comfortably led Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng to his office.

Once seated, Gu Ci sent someone to call Chen Dasheng. This significant find had to be shared with him; it was something they had been wanting to acquire recently but had failed to secure.

Then, facing Lu Ruisheng, Gu Ci asked, "How much do you want for it? I can’t let you guys take a loss." There was no pretense in his question; any amount of money or resources would be worth it for the value of the yacht couldn’t be measured in mere currency.

Lu Ruisheng didn’t specify an amount: "Whatever you think is fair, Brother Gu. And add some extra fuel for us; we really did use a lot this time."

Gu Ci laughed, "No problem, rest assured. I have plenty of fuel here." He understood what they needed and there was no need for excessive talk; he had lots of fuel.

While they were talking, Chen Dasheng walked in, "I heard Ruisheng managed to get a yacht?" He had just been sleeping and now came in, groggy, wearing slippers.

Now more accepting of Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng, he addressed them more affectionately.

Lu Ruisheng nodded, "Yes, one yacht. I’ve inspected it; it’s usable."

Sitting beside Lu Ruisheng, Chen Dasheng said, "Brother, I was blind to your worth before; you two are incredible."

Lu Ruisheng replied modestly, "It’s just luck."

"No, no, luck favors the prepared. You managed to acquire it because you know the way. We won’t pry, but remember us in the future for any good finds," Chen Dasheng had now fully acknowledged Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng.

Watching Chen Dasheng, Gu Ci smiled and teased, "Great Saint, no objections this time?"

Chen Dasheng shook his head vigorously, "How could I object? I truly admire my brother and sister-in-law."

Everyone laughed, feeling closer and now spoke without barriers or caution.

Unable to sit still, Chen Dasheng soon took them to see the yacht and asked Lu Ruisheng how to operate it.

Lu Ruisheng explained in detail.

Gu Pan provided them with a set of materials they had prepared before, about maintenance and yachting knowledge.

Gu Ci watched them with admiration, "You always seem to be prepared. Are you really as young as you look? You aren’t masters of disguise, are you?"

Listening to Gu Ci jokingly speak like a tycoon, Gu Pan found it quite amusing, "Ruisheng and I just celebrated our sixtieth last year, do you believe that?"

This joke got everyone laughing again.

Since it was late, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng ate there and didn’t return to the base, opting to rest in the city.

However, Gu Ci mentioned the vibrant nightlife, so they donned masks and went out again.

Indeed, at night the place was even more lively. Many might think that with dwindling supplies, entertainment should decrease or cease altogether.

But in reality, that wasn’t the case. Many who had run out of resources and had no means to obtain more, even those aware of the possible relocation to Everest but lacked the ability to go, opted for immediate pleasure.

Their mindset was: I’ve lived to this day, through the apocalypse no less, so if the end is near, why not splurge? If there’s still hope, they’d follow the base or scavenge again. For now, they didn’t want to shortchange themselves.

Therefore, the Underground Entertainment City became ever popular, especially lately, having only overcast weather and no extreme conditions; even those within a day or two’s drive came by.

Of course, it was also the biggest hub for news. Being there, one could fish for more information, making it a very popular place.
