There is a chance many people have been kidnapped by those Abyss humans and that turned into dark humans. Sam also found many human puppets.

All this information is enough to make everyone completely serious. Anybody could tell a big incident is going to happen. A war is about to happen between them and those Abyss humans.

Definitely, those Abyss humans wanted to go all out in this war. They wanted to use this chance to sacrifice the lives of those people from Terraria to open the portal to the nether world.
