He frowned when he noticed that his next element was still locked, muttering faintly.
"My sixth element hasn't unlocked yet."
Another pair of eyes peered at his status, and the man rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"I see. That's because your overall power isn't increasing here... It's a limitation. You won't be able to exceed 10-star here. I can help you unlock one or two more elements, but any more than that could interfere with your constitution's natural progress."
Skyler whipped his head toward him.
"Y-You can see my status!?"
Only to get a hiss in response.
"Stop shouting. I am not deaf. I can hear you even if you're whispering. And just why wouldn't I be able to see your status when it's literally hanging right in front of me?"
Skyler clamped his mouth shut. Was there a single secret he could possibly keep from this man? How did he find his hidden truths with such effortless ease? He raked a hand through his hair, a gesture of surrender.
For some reason, his instinct told him that it was okay if this man knew. It was bizarre, especially since Skyler hadn't even told his own parents about his constitution... Why was he becoming so unguarded around a person he couldn't even see the face of?
How weird.
His thoughts came to a stop as his master grabbed his collar and glanced at him with sparkling eyes that screamed wickedness.
"It's time to teach you a set of moves for your new weapon. Once you've mastered them, I'll help you awaken your race."
Skyler wanted to protest, though his body was healed, his mind was not! He couldn't continue fighting non-stop! But his plea fell on deaf ears as the man dragged him away. Ultimately, he could only vow inwardly.
'I swear! If I ever have a disciple, I will be just as cruel! I will make them cry!'
Only if he knew it, he was already doing it.
Regardless, just as he had expected, his weapon training was even worse than him being tossed between creatures of Evol.
Just like that, three months passed in the blink of an eye, and Skyler actually wished he would be thrown into a pit! That option was actually the most bearable, as long as this man who dared call himself his master would just cease beating him in the name of teaching! This infuriating bastard!
The only consolation was that he allowed Skyler a day of rest or sleep whenever his mind or body neared their breaking points, as if he knew the limits of his endurance.
"Shit, at least give me actual food instead of just energy...! I'm human, unlike you! If you can't, then let me eat what I have!"
That's when all his precious storage rings were confiscated, and he snapped, lunging at his master for a life-and-death battle. His master simply raised an eyebrow when he saw the contents of the storage rings.
"Where did you find so much?"
Skyler didn't answer. The next second, he was flung back a distance before he could even touch the man whose hands itched to hide the storage rings in his space. But his master had more self-restraint. He returned the storage rings, clearing his throat.
"Don't go crazy. It's not that I am against you eating real food. It's just that normal food contains impurities. You should only eat food that has anth... I mean Evol."
He picked up the scythe that had fallen when Skyler was flung back and walked toward the harshly breathing youth.
"Calm down..."
His remaining words faded as he noticed the veins erupting from Skyler's skin. They were dark blue and encasing every patch of his skin in a chaotic zigzag pattern, and he looked as if he was in immense pain. The calamity narrowed his eyes and retreated.
"You are awakening your race. I guess feeding you divinity had its effects."
Skyler let out a faint groan and clawed at his heart, which had begun to beat faster.
He glanced at his master and reached out to the man when the sudden pain that had shot through his body became unbearable. But the latter retreated further, muttering.
"You must face this alone. If I helped, you could fail. You are a mix, and given that all of their traits are manifesting together after many generations. Also, completely thanks to your constitution, it will be painful."
Skyler wanted to curse him, but he forgot about it when his bone structure began to change, and he let out a scream.
His skin was splitting open, and tiny, sharp, shimmering scales erupted, enclosing him entirely. His insides burned with a fire that threatened to consume him entirely.
Something was clawing its way out of his back and head, but Skyler didn't know what because his mind had already shut down, a casualty of the excruciating pain.
Before his vision completely faded, he noticed his master standing before him, eyes wide with disbelief. He only caught a few words of what the man was speaking before finally losing consciousness.
"...six pairs of wings... how... god..."
