Sky-cracking Rider-Chapter 526: Section 522 - Takeoff from Standstill
The cockpit, dashboard, avionics systems, and other missing modules were all replaced with MiG aircraft repair parts.
The jet, the jet engine, they all share the prefix "jet"; perhaps some technologies could be interchangeable.
It’s not like you can just hard-install the turboprop from the "Big Mouth Monster"; that would be totally incongruous.
Of course, the avionics and flight control systems couldn’t be used directly, but that was no problem. Summon "Adam," after all, this was what it originally did, and now it was just picking up its old trade.
The "Sauerkraut" Tempun Schneider, who was frantically calling out, pulled over a group of people from the adjacent hangar 1, just in time to see Chen Fei, who had just finished filling the cockpit. He was using his special ability to control the "Holy Grail’s" various aerodynamic control surfaces, coordinating with "Adam" for on-site programming to fabricate a flight control system.
Whether the flight control system would work or not, only an actual flight would tell. "Adam" wasn’t sure, and neither was Chen Fei.
Chen Xiao’er’s actions were fierce as a tiger, and the Crystal Jet, which appeared as new after an exterior repair, was finally modified and rolled out.
Although it was cloaked in a Crystal Jet’s shell on the outside and had a complete magic array, inside one could find the module characteristics of four or five different models, all mashed together by "Adam." At the very least, the system could be started and pass the self-test.
"Holy shit, this thing is fixed?"
It wasn’t until Chen Fei had finally let go that Squadron Leader Chekhov Big Bear, who had rushed over upon hearing the news, was drooling, rarely seeing something other than strong liquor that could make him salivate.
He felt he might have underestimated the "Rookie’s" industrial-grade ability. Since it had reached the level of industrial grade, not only was it at will, but just looking at the scene before him, even daring to meddle with a national treasure artifact like the Crystal Jet was outrageous.
The Crystal Jet wreckage, which had been collecting dust in a corner of hangar 2, had completely changed its appearance. Its profile was much larger than the still-covered F-22 "Raptor" next to it. It wasn’t just a heavy fighter but had an aura of a bomber.
The "Holy Grail" had five built-in weapon bays, the central fuselage weapon bay being the largest, sufficient for serving as a bomber.
Even without loading ammunition, the onboard attack spells alone made its combat power formidable.
"I really want to give it a try."
Squadron Deputy Leader "Devil Pepper" Irinei Rusios licked her lips, looking very eager.
As the Crystal Jet, a national treasure artifact, stood before her, as a private enterprise pilot, if she could fly it even once, there would be no regrets in life.
"Gah? Try? No way, it could lead to loss of life!"
Squadron Leader Chekhov Big Bear slowly turned his head to look at the short-haired Latin girl who was eager to try (raring to go), promptly shaking his huge head like a rattle drum.
Only a true Sky Knight could master the Crystal Jet. Ordinary people would be at risk not just flying it, but even sitting inside could be dangerous.
"Is it wrong to think about it?"
"Devil Pepper" Irinei Rusios rolled her eyes at Big Bear.
She was not a Sky Knight, just an ordinary person, naturally, she did not have the ability to control the Crystal Jet.
She might covet it, but took no actual action.
Squadron Leader Chekhov said in a deep voice, "Okay, okay, actually I want to try it too."
He suddenly felt the Erguotou in his crotch wasn’t appealing anymore.
The two squadron leaders almost had the same thought; it’s just that one dared to speak it out, while the other did not.
The "Genuine Fragrance" Combat Flight Squadron pilots watched their two bosses with faces full of terror, truly daring to dream! They didn’t even dare to think about it. The Crystal Jet was indeed tempting, but wasn’t it deadly?
Adam: Self-check complete, dynamic balance calibration finished!
Finally, the artificial intelligence AI "Adam" prompt appeared before Chen Fei.
Then, as if routine, he started refueling it with various types of oil. Like other aircraft, it required not just fuel but also various liquids like lubricating oil and hydraulic oil. Luckily, the hangar had everything, and as a certified maintenance technician himself, he quickly got it done.
Watching Chen Fei single-handedly complete the entire preparation process, Chekhov Big Bear asked, "Hey, you’re not seriously going to do this, are you?"
As he prepared to head towards the tow tractor, Chen Fei turned around and said, "We’ve come this far, might as well give it a try, right?"
It was impossible to put so much effort into fixing a Crystal Jet and then just leave it here to continue collecting dust as a decoration.
Otherwise, it would be better to buy a 1:1 scale model of a Crystal Jet from the original factory.
"Hey hey, you better take it easy."
Chekhov Big Bear actually wanted to see if this Crystal Jet would really fly, and although he doubted his own ability to pilot it, he didn’t want Chen Fei to have any accidents.
However, Chen Fei was an impervious to swords and guns, Grade B supernatural power user. In terms of physical constitution, he was certainly stronger than ordinary people. If not for this, Squadron Leader Chekhov Big Bear would have already tried to prevent such folly.
After towing the Crystal Jet onto the apron and fueling it, he casually slapped the Crystalline Block into it. The magic arrays on the surface of the craft collectively lit up and then dimmed.
"Ignition!"
Click!~
A soft sound from inside the airframe followed by a deafening roar from the twin vector thrusters indicated at least it didn’t need ground support equipment to ignite successfully. After all, most jet fighters have limited battery storage, but the main source of energy for the Crystal Jet, the higher form of Crystal Energy, was electricity, which was abundant.
The two to three meter-long orange flames quickly receded into a faint blue hue, a sign of complete combustion.
Due to the amplification provided by the magic arrays, a Crystal Jet didn’t consume much actual fuel. However, the Crystal Jet Chen Fei repaired had most of its magic arrays damaged due to battle damage and manual vandalism, losing the effects of fuel economy and thrust enhancement.
Even the Crystal Jet he plundered did not have those specialized magic arrays, thus a full repair was unattainable.
```
The one that took a real Crystal Jet as its core for repairs and modifications was no longer the original aircraft. It used too many spare parts to fill in and amateurish Magic Arrays to cover and replace, inevitably leading to a significant decrease in performance and combat capability. Still, it was better than a knockoff and about on par with the simplified version—a monkey model.
A monkey model of the National Treasure Artifacts? What a joke!
But standing on the foundation of a finished product and a damaged one, the process was certainly much better than starting from scratch.
Like "Sauerkraut" Tempun Schneider, a newbie to the "Genuine Fragrance" Squadron, "Angelica" Wadiye couldn’t help but take a sharp intake of breath.
"Goodness, it actually looks like it can fly!"
"We’re going to have a Crystal Jet! We’re getting a Crystal Jet!"
At Aircrew Base 911, feeling a sense of belonging, "Sauerkraut" Tempun Schneider murmured to himself.
Both of their comments could only be heard by themselves.
Seeing the canopy of the Crystal Jet open, a large cluster of complex and fragmented geometric shapes emerged from Chen Fei’s body, forming the "Flying Dragon" Interceptor Tactical Armor. Realizing what was going to happen, Deputy Squadron Leader "Devil Pepper" Irinei Rusios quickly shouted, "Everyone back off, leave the apron, and head to the hangar over there!"
Her voice was drowned out by the roaring engines, so she could only pull people one by one, pointing towards Hangar 1.
Such a patched-together aircraft was not as rudimentary as the Tricycle flyer, and a successful ignition didn’t guarantee a successful takeoff.
Everyone scrambled away.
Damn, what if it explodes!
Supernatural power users might survive, but the same couldn’t be said for these ordinary folks.
Chen Fei had guts, and the others weren’t faint-hearted, but none had the audacity of the former.
Because "Rookie" was truly reckless!
He plonked himself in the cockpit—ah, MiG-style piloting, felt completely familiar.
"Hey, calling the control tower, report the weather data."
Chen Fei fiddled around nonsensically, purely winging it.
"Huh? ’Rookie’? Wait, what’s going on? Where did this aircraft come from... what are you..."
Two hundred meters away, everyone in the control tower was dumbstruck.
Unlike the "Genuine Fragrance" Combat Flight Squadron and the mechanical repair team, who watched Chen Fei tinker with the Crystal Jet and had moved beyond surprise, they were suddenly receiving a signal from an unfamiliar aircraft, almost as if an alien had space-jumped right in front of their eyes.
"Just fixed up a real gem, wanted to give it a go!"
Aircrew Base 911 was home turf; there weren’t so many formalities—arrange for takeoff and landing preparations, then just go for it.
"What is that?"
The duty manager, Mahnam, nearly flung himself against the window, pressing his face right up to the glass.
"A Crystal Jet!"
Inside the control tower, it wasn’t just shock anymore, but total chaos.
It wasn’t April Fool’s Day, and not just at Aircrew Base 911—even in the entire circle of military contractors, who could boast of having a Crystal Jet.
Having a wrecked Crystal Jet carcass in Hangar 2 was no secret, but in such a battered state, with its insides torn apart, it was practically a different entity from a working Crystal Jet.
After closing the cockpit canopy, Chen Fei gently pushed the throttle lever forward, and the aircraft immediately responded, the sensation of being pushed back hitting him as the outside world slowly receded.
Constrained by the fact that the main engine wasn’t a perfect fit, the thrust of this Crystal Jet was inadequate to match its aerodynamic form, so its flying potential couldn’t be exploited to 100%.
"The weather conditions are suitable."
A dedicated employee at the control tower responsively reported back to Chen Fei by reflex.
"’Rookie’ received!"
Chen Fei had already maneuvered the Crystal Jet to the takeoff end of the main runway.
With the "Genuine Fragrance" Combat Flight Squadron all grounded and the weather conditions favorable, he had free rein over how he wanted to fly—which wouldn’t be allowed at a formal airport.
The Crystal Jet’s exhaust flames grew as the output thrust maxed out and the next second, the nose lightly lifted, the front landing gear left the ground, and the aircraft shot straight up into the sky.
The "Wind Cone" Magic Array beneath the nose cone activated, a light aqua glow sweeping across the entire aircraft.
Pop!~
Less than fifteen seconds into the ascent, it broke the sound barrier.
Everyone on the ground: "..."
Is a vertical takeoff even possible?
