Sinner System-Chapter 513: Final Dungeon - Second Floor (Part 6)
Point-of-View: Ciel Campbell
———————————————————————————
"Hey, come on, let me fend for myself, your Mana must be down to about half your full capacity by now!" I urged Rex, as we tried to get away from the spinning blade zipping through us, but it was too fast.
"No way. Don’t let go of me, no matter what," He replied without hesitation, before drawing out one of his blades and driving it down.
He plunged it straight into the ring in the middle of the double-edged blade, bringing it to an abrupt halt and pinning it to the ground, grimacing as cracks spread out across the middle of his blade.
As he brought the spinning blade to a temporary halt, we began to race across to the left, right as Slasher swooped down towards us with immense speed, whipping her arms across and firing out a pair of rapid slashes at us.
The slashes collided against the ground by our feet, deep cuts appearing across the dirt, upsetting my balance a bit but it didn’t affect Rex.
I managed to maintain my grasp over his shoulder, before he reached back and grabbed my wrist, pulling me along with him as we got some distance.
This is bad, I think he’s got about ten minutes max before his Mana is completely drained, we have to do something different, we’re just delaying the inevitable here.
"Oh, I expected that to be more effective," Remarked Slasher in surprise.
"Attacking the ground is always the go-to move of intelligent opponents once they realize how my Magic works, but that isn’t going to work on me," He responded dryly.
"Hey, you have to let me go, this isn’t working...if I can charge up a really big explosion, too big to dodge, I can get her. My new weapon makes me immune to my Magic, and you just need to keep yourself intangible when I fire the blast, so-...," I began, before trailing off as he tightened his grip on my wrist.
"No. The instant we separate, she’ll target you without missing a beat, she isn’t just going to hang back and let you charge up an attack. One way or another, I’ll find you an opening. The instant I do, blast her with everything you’ve got," He replied quietly.
H-Huh? One way or another?
N-No, wait...the way he said that, is he...is he planning on sacrificing himself to give me an opening?
N-No...no, no, no, no, NO! I...I refuse to accept that, there’s no way in hell that I’m-...!
My train of thought was cut off as another pair of rapid slashing waves came shooting down towards us, before I began to try and break free of Rex’s grasp as the slashes collided against the ground. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
He glanced back in alarm as I wrenched my hand free and began to charge up an explosion, before my eyes widened as Slasher swooped down with immense speed, closing in on me in the blink of an eye.
Shit, she was holding back, that wasn’t her full speed before-...!
As she drove her claws towards my throat, Rex leapt towards me, tackling me and turning me intangible the instant he came into contact with me, right in the nick of time as Slasher’s claws began to pierce the skin over the front of my neck, a trickle of blood running down as she phased through and shot past me, skidding across the ground behind me as I collapsed onto the grassy bank, Rex landing on top of me.
"What did I just say? Don’t do that again," He uttered icily, holding onto me as he got back onto his feet, before pulling me up.
"I...I just-...I can’t let you-...!" I began, before trailing off as the spinning blades came zipping down towards us, weaving back and forth through us as they closed in and phased through out bodies.
"How bothersome, it seems I really don’t have a choice but to wait for you to run out of Mana. Very well, then, I’ll just keep attacking, and make sure you don’t have a chance to switch off your intangibility for even a second. I shall ensure that your Mana is exhausted as quickly as possible!" The Monster sneered viciously.
My chest began pounding as Rex relaxed and kept his gaze fixed on her, an eerie sense of calm about him.
No, there...there has to be another way. Please, I...I’ll do anything, please...!
But...there was nothing I could do, I was completely powerless to do anything but wait.
He won’t let me break out of his grasp so easily again, and even if I do manage to do so, I’ll just get shredded by these blades before I can even begin to charge up the weakest of my Spells, let alone one that would actually be powerful enough to kill her.
What...what do I do?!
Time felt like it was moving at both a crawl and on fast-forward at the same time, Rex’s Aura steadily shrinking with every passing minute, while Slasher continued to attack, her blades whizzing through us without so much as a second of respite.
His breathing began to get heavier and more strained, his Aura almost completely faded, his Mana nearly extinguished.
My shoulders trembled as I felt tears welling up in my eyes, a lump in my throat as he loosened his grip over my wrist and slid his hand down to mine, lacing and interlocking his fingers between mine.
The tears began streaming down as he gave my hand a soft squeeze, before my chest tightened sharply as he let out an agonized yell of pain, one of the spinning blades starting to slice into the middle of his torso.
The blade came to an abrupt halt before it could cut through him completely, flying away as Slasher came swooping down with a malicious, sadistic chuckle.
"And now, you die!" She cackled gleefully, as she closed in in the blink of an eye and began to drive her claws towards the middle of Rex’s chest...
