Chapter 448: Chapter 448: Calamity Raids (Part 6)

Point-of-View: Ira

———————————————————————————

I fired a concentrated, intense projectile of Ether towards a Phoenix. My attack collided against it with immense force, blasting its head off before it could react.

As it collapsed and hit the ground, its body suddenly burst into flames, its head growing back as it rose up, letting out a sharp screech before firing out a blast of flames at me.

"<Vile creature>," I uttered venomously, as the flames closed in on me. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

I swiftly countered and canceled out the blast with a sharp burst of Ether, before unleashing a drilling Ether blast towards it. The blast tore a wide, shredded hole through the middle of its chest as it burst through with ease, killing the Monster instantly.

Hm, looks like that was the last of them. This battle is nearing its end, but I cannot rest easy just yet. After all, the toughest part is yet to come.

The others gathered the Cores of the fallen Monsters, before the party proceeded further, the final tunnel of the Dungeon soon coming into sight...

"Well, at least the last few floors have provided some semblance of a challenge, though it’s still way below what I’d have expected of a Calamity Level Dungeon. Here’s hoping whatever’s up there puts up more of a fight," Remarked Beatriz, cracking her knuckles as we made our way up the tunnel leading to the Boss Room.

After the Elemental Harpies, which appeared all the way upto the one hundredth floor, we began encountering flocks of Rocs and Thunderbirds over the next thirty floors, both classified as High Level Monsters.

And in the seventeen floors since then, we’ve encountered Phoenixes, Critical Level Monsters. There weren’t any especially large groups of them, so besides the fact that we needed to kill each of them twice to put them down for good, there wasn’t too much trouble.

Three of the other Hunters in this party are ranked as Aces, and they are quite skilled, so despite the appearance of the Phoenixes, it was relatively easy going all the same.

These avian Monsters cannot evolve to a form above Phoenix, it is the strongest species of their evolutionary cycle.

The various Dragon species, King Ants and Archdemons are the only types of Monsters that are to be expected in the Boss Rooms of Critical Level Dungeons. And usually, that would mean the Monsters in the lower floors are those species in the same evolutionary cycle as the Dungeon Boss.

But that isn’t going to be the case here...not unless there really is a higher evolved form of these avian Monster species that I am unaware of.

Well, I suppose we shall find out soon enough...

"I can sense the Dungeon Boss, and it’s definitely a Calamity Level!" The Detector informed us.

"Got it. Alright, as planned, Ira and I will take it on. The rest of you, hang back and back us up if necessary," Beatriz instructed them, right as the other end of the tunnel came into sight.

I felt a surge of hatred and rage as we stepped into the Boss Room, the entrance sealing itself shut as we all entered.

At the other end of the space, was a throne, with an Archdemon seated on it, a cocky, infuriating smirk on his face.

"Greetings, humans...ah, and the Dark Elf vermin too," He smirked, as he narrowed his eyes at me, before adding, "My name is-..."

I have heard enough.

"<Just die>," I uttered murderously, before firing a rapid, piercing beam of Ether towards him.

He swiftly leapt out of the throne and shuffled across to his right, my beam grazing his left shoulder and drawing out a trickle of blood, before piercing through the middle of the backrest of the throne.

"Calm yourself, long-eared vermin, there’s no reason to rush," He remarked, touching at the cut as it closed up, before licking his blood off his fingertips.

"Slow down there," Remarked Beatriz, grabbing my shoulder as I began to charge forward, snapping me out of it before adding as I glanced at her, "I know you can’t die and all, but rushing in recklessly ain’t the way to go here. Being aggressive is fine, but not if you end up in a blind rage."

"<I-...my apologies. It isn’t easy to stay composed when I see these scum>," I responded, before taking a deep breath.

"Well, now, that’s quite rude. And just to be clear, I never actually killed any of your kind, I was born after the war had already ended, so-...," The Archdemon began, before trailing off and tilting his body across as I fired a rapid Ether arrow towards him, narrowly missing his chest.

Beatriz then shot forward, a sharp burst of sound erupting from her feet as she launched herself towards the Archdemon, before firing out a deafening sonic screech towards him.

He raced away to evade it, before she shifted across in his direction and blasted herself forward with a deafening blast of sound, raising her strangely-shaped blade as she closed in.

The Archdemon sprang back as she swung it down, starting to charge up Negative Energy in his right hand. As he evaded her slash, a burst of high-pitched, sharply ringing sound waves erupted from the blade as it collided against the ground with a reverbing clang.

The Archdemon stumbled back with a dazed look on his face, before tensing and turning his gaze straight up as I flew up above him and unleashed a barrage of Ether blasts down towards him.

A yell of pain rang out as my blasts rained down, a cloud of dust billowing out around him. He let out a snarl as he suddenly zipped out of the dust cloud with a grimace, right as Beatriz sprang up behind him.

A ringing burst of sound erupted as she slashed at his back with her blade, blasting him away as blood poured out of his ears, his expression severely disoriented.

As Beatriz and I shot towards him, he gritted his teeth and unleashed a powerful burst of Negative Energy around himself, pushing us back as we began to close in on him, before he spread out his wings and took off into the air.

"Well, now, that was unexpected. Clearly, I cannot afford to take this lightly," He remarked with a dark look on his face, no sign of the cocky smirk he had a moment ago...
