Sinner System-Chapter 404: Get it Over With
"Hey, welcome back, Guildmaster! It’s good to see you!" Brid greeted me with a grin.
"Likewise, glad to see you’re doing well," I smiled in response.
Today’s the 4th of September, 2170, four days since the press conference. Two days ago, the Union publicized most of the info I’d given them about the Monster world, and it’d circulated in the blink of an eye.
I was getting a lot of attention, though not all positive. There were some mixed reactions about the whole thing with Superbia, though the majority were defending me, which was a pleasant surprise.
The Union had also measured my current Power Level when I’m at full power, and made that public too. I was hesitant, but Lachlan was pretty insistent, saying that it’d be a great way to uplift the people.
I didn’t want the extra attention that would come with it, but I relented in the end. And it certainly caused quite a stir, my current max Power Level of just under six million, breaking Aria’s record of just under four million.
The next highest in history among Hunters is around two point five million, and Jaden’s Power Level is not too far below that.
A lot of the reactions online seems to indicate that a fair number of people believe that we’ll be seeing more powerful Hunters appear in the near-future, that Aria and I are basically precursors for what’s to come.
But in reality, that isn’t quite the case.
My situation is pretty unique, what with the Sinner System and all, and Aria wouldn’t have been able to reach her current level through ordinary means, her Personalis Arma and the effects of Demonization were what pushed her to this level.
Of course, there’s Blaze Ignition, which she developed all by herself, and while that did give her a Power Level pushing one and a half million, it wouldn’t have taken her much further beyond that.
That said, it would certainly be great if the public was right about this, we could definitely use some more powerful Hunters.
Maybe not necessarily on my level, that’d be a pretty unrealistic expectation, but at least at or around the Power Levels of Calamity Level Monsters, in that two and a half to three million range, maybe even pushing three and a half mil.
Because as things stand, our chances of defeating the Demon Lord seem pretty slim, at best.
Even at my full power, he’s more than three times as powerful as I am, and that’s without even accounting for his Demonic Arts.
Anyway, I was currently at the Guild, for the first time since I got back. Same with Aria, she took the last couple of weeks or so off, staying at home with me.
But yesterday, we figured that we probably shouldn’t neglect our duties for too long, so we decided to return today. I was going around greeting all the members of the Guild.
We’d gotten a number of new recruits while I was in the Monster world, I greeted and welcomed them too.
A few of the members had been busy with a raid, and they’d just made their return, I was currently with them.
"How’d your raid go? Seems like it went pretty smoothly, you guys look mostly unscathed," I remarked, as I glanced around at them. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"Boring...so, so boring, it hasn’t been challenging in the slightest lately," Sighed Brid in disappointment.
"U-Um, I don’t th-think that’s a b-bad thing," Spoke up Iqra quietly.
"It certainly has been really easy lately, though," Chimed in Wrest.
"It’s simply the calm before the storm, a lull into a false sense of security," Remarked Damien, staring up at the ceiling as he leaned against the wall.
"I think we have reason to believe otherwise. You dealt some pretty significant blows to the forces of the Monsters, I bet that’s why the Dungeons have been a lot easier lately," Responded Lector optimistically.
Well, that’s certainly a possibility. But it’s only a matter of time before the intensity starts to ramp up again, the Demon Lord didn’t strike me as the kind of guy who would cut his losses and give up.
"It’s good seeing all you guys again, it’s good to be back. You should head home and get some rest now," I suggested with a smile, as I took note of the weary looks on their faces.
Even if the raids have gotten a lot easier lately, the Dungeons still have a lot of ground to cover, and they’re clearly tired.
"Yeah, sounds good to me, I could use a nap."
"Same here, I’m beat."
"See ya later, Guildmaster! And welcome back!"
"Mhm, welcome back, GM."
"What they said."
I gave the group a wave as they headed out, before stretching my arms up and leaning back in my seat.
"I guess that just leaves our friends from the other Guilds and the X-Aces that you haven’t met yet since coming back, huh?" Mused Aria, as she slipped behind me and rubbed my shoulders.
"I mean, I did message some of them. I’ll try to meet Rex and Ciel soon, though seeing the other X-Aces in person is probably going to be tough," I pointed out, as I relaxed in my seat.
"Yeah, true. I haven’t seen any of them in person since the X-Ace Clash."
"Maybe we should try to-...," She began, before trailing off as someone knocked on the door.
"Come in!" I called out, before Tracy stepped in as the door swung open.
"Hey, Tracy, what’s up?" Aria asked her, as she shut the door behind her.
"We’ve got a request for you, Guildmaster, the Academy is asking you to give a special lesson for the current batch of students. There are a number of talented young aspiring Hunters currently enrolled, so to encourage and motivate them, they want you to give them some instruction," She explained, getting straight to the point.
"Yeah, I’d rather not."
"The thing is...the staff have already informed the students that you’ll be coming," She informed me sheepishly.
Huh?
"Are you kidding me? Come on," I sighed in exasperation.
"Yeah, it’d suck to have to disappoint so many people," Responded Aria wryly.
"When is it?" I inquired with an irritated mutter.
"The day after tomorrow, the 6th-..."
"No way, absolutely not! That’s his birthday, and I’ve got plans for him, so no way in hell!" Protested Aria immediately.
"In that case, I’ll tell them that you’re in but it’ll have to be held on another day. Any particular day you’d prefer, Guildmaster?"
"Hm...tomorrow. If I’m doing this, I’d rather get it over with as soon as possible."
