Single Spell Sorcerer-Chapter 122: Back in Action
Chapter 122: Back in Action
"Shit!" Ning thought as he realized what was happening. novelbuddy-cσ๓
He had been distracted by his own thoughts and Lucille’s warning. He didn’t realize the boss had already recovered its Spell.
He tried to look away, but it was already too late. The light seemed to pull at his vision, demanding his attention. The petrification took hold instantly, spreading from his eyes down through his body like ice water in his veins. His muscles grew sluggish as they turned to stone, his spear frozen at his side.
The slender tail whipped toward the helpless Ning, ready to deliver a crushing blow that would shatter his petrified form like a statue. Unlike Jax, he had no armor at all.
Ning didn’t think he was going to die. But he feared the pain he was going to have to suffer now.
Just then, he felt something else around his waist. A whip wrapped around Ning’s petrified form and yanked him backward with tremendous force just as the tail slammed at the location where he had been before. The impact created a crater in the earth, sending dirt and grass flying in all directions.
Ning rolled through the grass in his petrified form, taking little to no damage at all. He had been saved.
Someone pulled him up and undid the whip from around his waist.
Ning saw Jax take his whip back and run toward the boss.
Jax had recovered from his own petrification just in time, the familiar flexibility returning to his limbs as the stone effect finally wore off. He had been free just as the gorgon had entered its second stage.
With his first action, he had saved his teammate. All those training with his whip had been of great use at that moment. The whip rolled by his side on his waist while he took on his axe and charged for the gorgon.
The gorgon immediately turned toward Melayne, its three heads focusing on the only remaining threat before it.
Melayne didn’t panic. Panic would only kill her. Panic was useless.
She raised her sword defensively, flames dancing along its edge, as she readied herself to take on the hit. She wore simple armor with defensive runes, so in addition with the sword, she would survive this attack.
She prepared for the pain.
Something slammed into the gorgon at that moment, sending the boss’s 40 feet body lurching backward. She had been saved at the last moment.
Melayne looked toward the source and saw Jax’s entire body in a diving tackle, his body weight slamming into the gorgon’s center head with tremendous force. The impact drove both of them backward.
The snake was stunned by the sudden attack, and Jax used the confusion to his advantage.
His threads appeared all around the boss, wrapping around all three necks as it tightened together. The more threads there were, the more difficult it would be for the boss to move.
The Earth strands bound the heads together, limiting their independent movement. As the threads tightened due to the gorgon’s own movement, he brought his axe down in a powerful overhead swing.
The spell stone embedded in his axe activated on impact, its magic crackling to life.
[Twin Strike]
The image of the axe followed behind the real weapon like a ghostly double, both strikes landing almost simultaneously with a thunderous crash that echoed across the clearing.
Dark blood spurted from the wound as the gorgon’s scales split under the assault.
The gorgon reeled back from the double impact, its heads thrashing violently as it tried to break free from Jax’s binding threads. The poison threads from the previous wrapping had disappeared with the phase change, so Jax wrapped its body with more poison threads before stepping back.
It was already beginning to take effect as the boss took more and more damage. The Poison threads thankfully worked on the boss. That had been what had done most of the damage earlier even while Jax was out of commission.
An arrow from Lucille’s bow whistled through the air, finding its mark in the neck furthest from Jax’s position. The shot wasn’t powerful enough to cause serious damage, but it added to the chaos that was Jax’s sudden attack.
Melayne seized the moment of chaos, stepping forward with her flaming sword raised high. The runic blade cut deep into the boss’s flesh with a satisfying slice, enhanced by both her considerable skill and the magical flames that wreathed the weapon.
The blade was incredibly sharp, its enchantments allowing it to part the gorgon’s tough scales like wood. Dark blood began to flow freely from the wound, steaming where it touched the flaming sword.
Melayne did not like this smell at all.
Ning was still frozen, his body entirely stone. But he could see the fight and he was amazed by how Jax had attacked with no sense of danger at all. He was also amazed by his threads. It was only now that he had noticed the difference in colors.
He slowly felt sensation returning to his body, starting from his core and spreading outward to his extremities. The petrification was wearing off gradually, his muscles regaining their responsiveness one by one. There was still some time before it fully wore off, so he focused on the battle.
The gorgon had become faster, so it was getting difficult for both Jax and Melayne to handle it all by themselves. With the tail, the gorgon had 4 methods of attacking them. They could not let their attention for even a second.
Jax was the main fighting taking the gorgon’s aggression, while Melayne attacked while hiding in Jax’s light.
As feeling fully returned to Ning’s limbs, he looked toward the back of the gorgon and spotted what he’d been waiting for.
The second Critical Spot.
It was visible now that the boss was tossing and turning more so than ever.
When the petrification finally disappeared, he turned toward Lucille.
"Focus on its rightmost head," he told her. "I see the next spot on its back."
