Shrouded Seascape-Chapter 1052: Tranquility
The icebergs moved faster and faster, and the white cliff was moving like a high-speed train moving forward. What terrified the people on the ship the most was that a big chunk of the speeding "train" was getting closer to them.
Everyone knew the consequences if such a massive object weighing millions of tons were to collide with their ship at high speeds.
"Hurry! Turn the rudder! Overload the engines!! We have to get out of here!!" Captain Klaus' anxious roar resounded throughout the Maiden's Love.
Billowing black smoke mixed with sparks spewed from the smokestack as the Maiden's Love moved rapidly. However, the ship wasn't equipped with a reversing gear, so if they wanted to turn around, they had to turn the rudder in one direction and move in a circle. Unfortunately, they had no time for that.
The Maiden's Love was equipped with state-of-the-art technology from Hope Island, and the crew had absorbed powerful relics, but it was futile. Humans were simply too insignificant in the face of the moving, ice continent before them.
"Turn there! Point the bow to that moving iceberg! Everyone, hold on tight! We'll use that iceberg as a slide to escape!" Klaus exclaimed. Despite knowing that the entire ship would most likely shatter upon impact, he had to do something.
He couldn't give up here.
Unfortunately, there wasn't anything they could do but watch as the iceberg inched closer and closer to them. Just as the iceberg was about to collide with the ship, everyone's face turned ashen.
At the critical juncture, Lily made a move. She took to the skies and approached the hull. Then, she pressed both hands against it before pushing as hard as she could.
Lily could feel the energy within her being depleted as she wielded it according to the method that the Pope had taught her back then.
A dazzling light erupted and engulfed the ship as if it were tangible. Then, the massless light actually gained mass, and Lily made use of the tangible light to shove the ship into the distance.
The exploration vessel was dozens of meters long and was made entirely out of steel, but it was like a toy in Lily's hands as she easily pushed it out of danger.
The crew members were in disbelief. They were aware that their employer wasn't an ordinary individual, but they had no idea that she was this powerful.
When Lily returned to the ship, everyone, including Klaus, looked at her with reverence.
It was a kind of gaze that always made Lily feel uncomfortable. She pinched the hem of her skirt and said, "Don't look at me. Look ahead. That ice continent is gone."
Everyone came back to their senses and saw that the ice continent in the distance had truly vanished. The coast was clear once again.
"Damn it, what the hell was that? That was such a big piece of ice… how could it possibly disappear so fast?" the Second Mate remarked with his brows tightly furrowed.
However, no one could answer his question. The other crew members turned to their captain, awaiting his next order.
Klaus didn't issue an order. Instead, he looked at Lily beside him and said, "Miss Lily, can you tell me why you need us to protect you when you're so powerful? If there's an issue that you can't resolve, then we certainly can't resolve it, too."

The young woman's glowing hair swayed slightly as she shook her head and replied, "I didn't employ you to protect me. I only need supplies. If I were to fly there by myself, I wouldn't have fresh water, food, or a place to sleep."
Upon hearing that, Klaus immediately felt frustrated. It seemed that his ship was a mere inn for resting in Lily's eyes.
"Send a telegram containing our current position to Sottom. We'll continue with this exploration," Klaus said.
With that, the ship's propellers spun once again, pushing the Maiden's Love toward the distant darkness. The ice continent had disappeared, but there were still some icebergs.
Upon reaching their earlier position, they experienced the same thing as before—the crashing of the waves and the howling winds had disappeared once again, giving way to an eerie silence.
Everyone was on high alert as the ship slowly made progress through the unknown waters. However, they no longer encountered anything strange. There wasn't anything else but tranquility.
The sea ahead of them was calm, seemingly frozen still beneath the extremely cold weather. Everything looked fine as well; there weren't any inconsistencies at all.
As the days passed, Klaus decided to lift the restrictions on liquor consumption to ease the crew's tense nerves. Previously, they were only allowed to drink up to fifty milliliters per person per day, but the limit was now five hundred milliliters per day. Of course, they couldn't drink while on duty.
The crew was overjoyed by the decision. The alcohol also assuaged the coldness permeating their bones, making them feel much more comfortable.
Lily was no longer hiding in her cabin and often patrolled the deck. Her relationship with the crew also became more and more harmonious.
After all, who wouldn't want to interact with a lovely, beautiful young woman, especially when the beautiful young woman in question was their benefactor?
In just seven days, they would reach their destination. Knowing that their job would soon be over, everyone's mood improved drastically. They were in such a good mood that the cursed whisperings in their ears had actually quieted down.
Today, Lily went to the deck and saw the sailors sitting together, drinking and boasting about their exploits. Among them, the bald boatswain had the most outrageous boasting.
"I'm telling you, this damned place is nothing to me. I've seen stranger things back when I went with Governor Charles to the surface world to locate the darkness.
"Had it not been for me back then, Governor Charles couldn't have found the darkness. Later, in the Governor's Mansion on Hope Island, he begged me to become the Governor of Hope Island.
"He even wanted to betroth his daughter to me.
"You know what kind of person I am, right? I simply can't sit still. I'd rather die than deal with the mountain of documents that a governor would have to deal with every day, so of course, I refused his offer."
Lily wasn't actually surprised to hear that. She had heard many of such boastings these days, and the bald boatswain's boasting wasn't the most outrageous thing she had heard from them so far.
Lily looked around at the icebergs nearby and pondered about the issues she would most likely encounter upon reaching her destination.
I wonder how Mr. Charles would react if I actually end up becoming the Light God…
Eventually, the sailors somehow started daring each other again.
Just then, an iceberg floated past the ship.
A sailor who was being mocked and laughed at by his fellow sailors stood up and staggered to the edge of the ship. Then, he vomited heavily on the iceberg and pressed his hand on his own vomit.
"Do you dare?" the sailor asked, turning to his fellow sailors with a smug smile.
"...!" the sailor's face suddenly stiffened, and he stood still like a statue.
His fellow sailors sensed that something was wrong, and they hurriedly approached him. They stared at the frozen sailor with confusion visible in their eyes.
Before they could do anything, the sailor twitched and slumped on the floor.
Everyone was startled at first, but then they all burst out laughing.
"Pfft! Nice one! You actually scared us."
"Yeah, that was some good acting! Don't tell those guys in the engine room for now. I want to scare them later as well."
Everyone was laughing, but the attentive Lily noticed that the sailor called Wrench looked a bit off.
