Showbiz Scandal: The Official Announcement of My Ex and Myself-Chapter 400: I Listen to Yu Xia
Xie Qingci accompanied Yu Xia on the film set for a day, and then Mr. Yang came looking for him.
He sighed deeply as soon as he saw Xie.
Yu Xia had gone to the film set for shooting, leaving He Ci behind. The two managers sat opposite Xie, staring at him, but Xie Qingci was completely unfazed.
He was in good spirits, grinning like the April sun even while sitting on a hard bench.
After sighing enough himself, Mr. Yang told him to get back to work.
"Just because you’ve finished filming one role doesn’t mean you’re on vacation. You have to prepare for the next, and there’s a magazine shoot scheduled for you too."
Xie Qingci wasn’t too willing, "Is it urgent?"
"...It’s not good for you to stay here."
He knew it wasn’t good to stay here, after all, it was the film set where Yu Xia was shooting.
Xie Qingci was silent for a moment, then asked about the variety show he’d mentioned before, "Wasn’t there talk about a romantic variety show? Any news?"
Mr. Yang was troubled; isn’t this a bit too hasty? Yu Xia was still filming, it would take more than two or three months to finish, so why do a romantic variety show now?
He sighed again, "Do you really want to show off your love that badly? I must tell you, romantic variety shows aren’t just about feeling confident in your relationship; they can expose many issues, and you two might even clash."
More importantly, the audience scrutinizes relationship details very closely. If they show an aspect that’s not very fitting, the audience will surely criticize them. At that point, it’s not about whether he can handle it; even fans who originally supported their relationship might be disappointed.
Xie Qingci frowned, "Then I’ll discuss it with her. But if it’s possible to participate, let’s try to get involved. Please, Mr. Yang."
He Ci sympathetically patted Mr. Yang’s shoulder, "Even if we do it, it’ll have to wait until after next spring. Our Yu Xia is aiming for awards in the latter half of this year."
Mr. Yang was even more troubled.
He felt like an humble father whose son was clingy with a wealthy woman with backing.
Yu Xia was working hard filming, participating in award events, while his artist just focused on romance and showing off on romantic variety shows. Sigh.
"We’ll definitely participate," he rubbed his hair, nearing a bald spot, and continued sincerely, "Go back. You don’t want to start showing off now, right? It’s not appropriate. We should at least wait until the buzz dies down to discuss this further; otherwise, it’ll easily trigger a backlash from fans."
Xie Qingci pressed his lips together, "So you’re saying there’s no difference whether we’re public or not?"
He Ci chimed in, "There’s still a difference, at least you two can have a date and hold hands in private without it feeling like sneaking around."
"..." He wanted to argue it wasn’t exactly sneaking, but on second thought, it was pretty close, so he didn’t say anything further.
Seeing his discontented expression, He Ci smiled and said, "You seem not to understand how popular couples in the entertainment industry interact daily—I’m referring to those whose exposure doesn’t upset fans. So let me explain briefly.
First, this movie is very important to Yu Xia, and the management on set is strict, so try not to disturb her.
Secondly, it’s best if your work doesn’t overlap much. That’s the kind of relationship married couples have, and you surely don’t want rumors saying you’re getting resources because of her, right?
Lastly, control yourself to some extent; phone calls and meals are fine, but avoid getting caught in public displays of affection, like kissing on the street or in a car... you get it?"
Before Xie Qingci had any reaction, Mr. Yang listened and his face turned green.
It’s not like they were families negotiating marriage dowries, and he wasn’t the groom’s family; why did he feel so suffocated?!
Xie Qingci didn’t mind, but didn’t agree outright either, he said, "I’ll listen to Yu Xia."
He Ci: "..."
Oh well, it’s a predictable answer. After all, everyone present knows he’s such a girlfriend-centric guy. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
After a brief conversation, Xie Qingci managed to secure another half day’s stay.
Before leaving, Mr. Yang told him, "There’s a lot of noise online because of your relationship. You’d better not be too flamboyant."
Paparazzi and fan site admins are incredibly capable; if they’re not careful, anything can be captured.
Xie Qingci nodded, watching them leave, staying alone in the room waiting.
After finishing her scenes, Yu Xia was cornered by a few familiar faces for some small talk, mostly about yesterday’s surprising revelation with Xie Qingci.
But she was eager to return to the hotel, didn’t even eat the boxed meal she got; she took it along with her.
Director Yan, sitting by the wall explaining scenes to a young actor, watched her dash away with two boxed meals, his expression turning complex.
As if questioning how she was so poor she couldn’t even afford takeout and had to steal boxed meals from the set for her boyfriend.
It also seemed like he wanted to tease her for acting like an old man eager to leave work to see his beloved wife.
Yu Xia’s imagination made her pause for a moment, then she smiled at the director, slowed her pace, trying to appear calm and composed.
Back at the hotel, Xie Qingci was indeed still there. She brought the boxed meals inside and invited him to eat together.
"Did your agent leave? When are you leaving?"
Xie Qingci was standing by the window, looking out, and slightly turned his head to her upon hearing the question.
"Do you want me to leave?"
"No," she dragged him to the sofa to sit down, "I’m shooting, so time is tight. I want to know when you’re leaving so I can make time to spend more with you."
Xie Qingci relaxed his expression, "I have to leave soon. There are people outside waiting to take photos of us."
He glanced out the window.
Film sets generally don’t welcome fan or paparazzi sneak peeks, as photographing them often reveals the set designs and costumes, which annoys directors.
Yu Xia hesitated a bit, suddenly feeling a reluctance.
"You’re leaving soon?"
Xie Qingci lowered his eyes as he opened the boxed meal, softly replying, "Mm."
"I thought being public meant we could openly flaunt... we’ve only spent half a day together."
Look at that weary expression, listen to that aggrieved voice. Yu Xia’s heart softened, she skipped her meal, lifted his chin, and kissed him.
Immediately, Xie Qingci took charge, pressing her down on the sofa, deepening the kiss without reservation.
He’s channeling all the past unmet desires, previously restrained feelings, and anything they might miss out on soon into the present moment.
Last night’s half-night kissing session didn’t lessen his inner yearning; it’s unclear where he got all that enthusiasm, seemingly endless.
Eventually, Yu Xia pushed him away.
To be fair, he was obedient; though never satisfied with kissing, a gentle pat and he’d stop, respecting her wishes.
Yu Xia gathered herself before speaking, "Go back and film properly, call me if anything comes up."
"Mm. Let me know in advance when you finish filming, I’ll come pick you up."
Coming to pick her up, specially?
"And then what?"
He hugged her close, kissed her ear, casually saying, "Then we’ll go eat. The food here isn’t great. Wei Yaoyao recommended a restaurant; she said there’s a few dishes worth trying, and I haven’t eaten there yet."
