Showbiz Scandal: The Official Announcement of My Ex and Myself-Chapter 334: Pigsy Carries His Wife
Xie Qingci really looks like someone you’d want to bully.
But out of humanitarian considerations, she restrained her beastly thoughts.
"Don’t be afraid, you don’t have ear piercings, I won’t really make you wear them."
Xie Qingci curled up in the corner, looking just like a bullied little white flower.
Yu Xia put the glass earrings on her own earlobes, and after adjusting the dangling beads, she asked him, "Do they look good?"
Xie Qingci nodded, "They look great."
"So, how much do you think we should sell them for? Ten bucks isn’t too much, right? Just right for collecting money."
He nodded again.
Yu Xia then pointed to the bracelet in his hand, "And what about this? How much do you think we should sell it for?"
"Ten bucks?"
"Great idea." She took out the wood carving too and rattled off her sales strategy.
"This one’s also ten bucks, the Red String Copper Plate is two bucks. If anyone buys items totaling a hundred and fifty, they’ll get a Red String Copper Plate for free. Spend a hundred in one go, and you get a free bracelet. The offer also applies to group purchases. For amounts over two hundred, you can get a free special service from the boss who personally wears them. What do you think, boss?"
The boss, who will personally serve the customers, Xie Qingci: "...Okay."
They decided on the sale prices, now they just needed a place to sell the goods.
Considering their current precarious identity as fugitives, setting up a fixed stall is basically impossible.
So, Yu Xia eventually decided to go for a mobile roadside stall.
The plan was to sell stuff sneakily on the go, pulling aside any people who gave them more than a sideways glance and asking, "Fancy buying some exquisite accessories?"
Of course, the professional sales pitch was quite elaborate, here it is –
"Handcrafted with meticulous craftsmanship; it took three months to make just one. You can see this wood carving, it’s smooth, with fluid carving lines, not a single burr."
"I guarantee, in this entire city, there’s no bracelet more exquisite than ours. Look at the craftsmanship at the joints, look at these unique embellishments; they all have meanings. For instance, this one, it’s called ’wish upon a persimmon’, and if you buy it, you’ll have good fortune in everything!"
"Aren’t these earrings beautiful? Although they aren’t precious gemstones, they have a significant origin. The material comes from the Nirvana Glass of Phoenix Town, rumored to be a material that can’t be burned by the flames of the Phoenix. People from my place have always used it as a token of love, symbolizing a bond stronger than gold, never to part! On the Qixi Festival, these sell for a hefty price, but now we’re having a promotion at thirty percent off!"
Such eloquence, even Xie Qingci was dumbfounded listening to it, let alone the passersby.
She should stop being an actor; she ought to help her brother build a business empire.
Yu Xia, absorbed in the joy of selling, showcased the products to the customers and then held up Xie Qingci’s hand to show how they looked when worn.
"See, isn’t it gorgeous? Our boss has even offered his arm to help demonstrate for everyone, and if you purchase over two hundred as a group, you can enjoy his personal display service for free!"
With a flick of her finger, the silver bracelet on Xie Qingci’s wrist unraveled into several strands, sparkling brightly as it hung down her arm like a showcase.
The customers were already tempted, and a glance at the stiff, manipulated boss, with his handsome face looking even more charming against the plush swan pillow...
What else is there to hesitate about? Just buy it!
Yu Xia was overjoyed, totally ignoring the flustered Xie Qingci being stared at by a crowd, grinning widely as she collected money with one hand and handed over products with the other.
The rush of the crowd quickly attracted more people, creating a blockage on the street.
Xie Qingci looked up at the sides of the street, managing to tap Yu Xia on the shoulder through the gaps between people.
"Sister, let’s move further away, in case the pursuers come, we won’t be able to escape."
The hand tapping her was the one with the bracelet, and the tinkling noise it made for some reason caused a few passersby to suddenly cover their mouths in apparent excitement and stomp their feet.
Yu Xia glanced sideways at the hand on her shoulder, then focused on promoting the bracelet to the foot-stomping girls.
Seeing she wasn’t moving, Xie Qingci had to pull her along, squeezing through the crowd toward the outside, positioning themselves at the fork in the road so they could escape quickly if pursuers arrived.
Speak of the devil, and he doth appear—just as they reached the intersection, two black-clad pursuers emerged from an alley on the other side. Seeing the blockage over here, they headed directly towards it.
Xie Qingci quickly grabbed Yu Xia and turned to run.
"The pursuers are here!"
Yu Xia yelped twice, hastily gathering the plastic bag into her arms, waving goodbye to her dear customers:
"If the deal doesn’t work out, we’ll still be friends. Everybody, help block those guys in black!"
Right after speaking, she stumbled and nearly fell.
Xie Qingci caught her arm, lifting her upright just in time to prevent her from falling.
She had merely twisted her ankle.
As the shadows approached, Yu Xia hurriedly said, "I’m fine, it doesn’t hurt, I can still run... hey hey hey!" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Without a word, Xie Qingci hoisted her, pulling her arm outward, ducking his head under her arm. When he stood up, Yu Xia realized she was already slung over his shoulder.
She widened her eyes in shock, exchanging looks with the equally wide-eyed passersby outside the alley.
"You know, Xie Qingci, you don’t have to, put me down, hey hey hey! My head’s going to fall off! Slow down... never mind, just run faster."
In her line of sight, the pursuers were already closing in, only needing to pass through the group of passersby to catch up with them.
At this point, it was pointless to waste time; running was the only sensible thing to do. She adjusted her position, trying to keep her head from wobbling too much; at this rate of carrying, she feared her brilliant mind might turn to mush.
However, there was a slightly awkward problem.
The cup noodles squeezed between them, she worried it might break. She wanted to pull it out, but doing so would push them together even more, which felt oddly embarrassing.
While she was distracted, Xie Qingci turned a corner in the alley, slipped through a courtyard, and emerged at another alley entrance, slowing his pace.
Considering he had been running with someone slung over his shoulder for such a distance, it was a challenge indeed. Yu Xia thought he’d continue through the alley, but instead, he stopped in a courtyard visible at a glance.
There was nowhere to hide in this courtyard, apart from the open area, the courtyard wall, and a few lush trees.
"Why stop here? There’s no place to hide," she anxiously said.
"Shush," Xie Qingci stopped in front of the biggest tree, lifted her to sit on his arm, panting as he hoisted her up, "climb up there."
Yu Xia hesitated for a couple of seconds, then said nothing, grabbing a branch to climb up.
At a high enough position where the foliage could shield them, he climbed up in a few swift moves, giving her another "shush" gesture.
Yu Xia held her breath, clutching the cup noodles and plastic bag, trying not to make a sound, ears straining to catch any noise from below.
