Chapter 280: Chapter 280: Couple Outfits

"I want to tell you to keep a low profile and not go out. The situation has escalated. I don’t know where these internet trolls came from; they’re all hurling insults at Xie Qingci, and you’re getting dragged into it too."

His tone was quite displeased when he spoke about it.

"I told you before that dating can easily lead to problems, but you wouldn’t listen, just indulging in your young boyfriend’s fiery affection. And now, look? You’ve done nothing, yet you’re being cursed at too."

Yu Xia hadn’t seen the insults he mentioned, so she didn’t feel it deeply. She asked, "Wasn’t it the same yesterday? How has it escalated?"

"The insults are so nasty; it’s enough to escalate from just a lawyer’s warning to criminal charges," He Ci said.

But in the entertainment industry, rumors and such rarely get suppressed through legal means, because those spreading the news, the marketing accounts, and the trolls all know that what they’re doing isn’t enough to break the law and result in charges. At most, they’re warned or publicly criticized, which isn’t much of a punishment for them.

Knowing all this made him even more frustrated.

"I’ve said what needed to be said. The rest is about figuring out the situation and trying to win back the fans and the general public’s favor. If the insults are truly unbearable, we can just hire a lawyer to sue them one by one. I have time and money to spare, just to see if they can always get away with flirting with the edge of legality without any shame," Yu Xia was quite calm, already thinking about which lawyer to contact.

The PR department at her brother’s company was good, and the lawyers hired by the company were capable too. Asking him to introduce a colleague to handle a lawsuit in the entertainment industry should work.

There wasn’t much He Ci could say; he could only feel comforted by her trouble-free attitude.

"Alright, as long as you can stand up to it. I’ll talk to the company too. They can’t just rely on your popularity to make money while ignoring your reputation. Fine, you go on enjoying time with your boyfriend. The unfortunate me will keep working hard for you."

Yu Xia laughed good-naturedly: "After all, you’re the world’s best manager, very capable. Next time, you could end up moving into a big villa. Hang in there, He!"

Laughing, she hung up the phone, feeling tempted to surf the internet and see just how nasty the insults were.

But as soon as she opened the Weibo page, Xie Qingci snatched her phone away from behind.

"Don’t look, get up and eat something."

Yu Xia looked up at him, seeing that there was nothing covering his gray sweatpants.

Because his back had a long scratch from her, he felt uncomfortable with clothes rubbing against it, so he gave her his shirt.

Even though there were other options, he insisted she wear this oversized T-shirt. Fortunately, it was long enough for her to wear as a short dress.

One was wearing pants, the other a shirt. It really did look like a couple’s outfit.

"Alright, I won’t look. What are we eating?"

Xie Qingci picked her up, saying as he walked, "There’s not much here; I used the milk and toast from yesterday to make some French toast with eggs. Try it."

Besides the toast, there was also a cup of hot milk.

She pushed the milk towards him: "You can have it all; I don’t drink milk."

Xie Qingci paused and poured her a glass of warm water.

"I ordered groceries delivered. If it’s not enough, we can have a midnight snack later."

"You specially bought groceries? Why not just order takeout? It’s already evening," she mumbled while biting into the milk and egg French toast.

He shook his head and said, "I’m tired of takeout; it doesn’t taste good. Isn’t it better if I cook for you?"

"Okay, okay, that’s great," she continued eating.

Xie Qingci asked her with a smile, "So, what reward do I get?"

The word "reward" gave her goosebumps, so she quickly turned to give him a kiss, hoping her willingness would deter him from some improper thoughts.

"Reward, reward, come here, kiss."

Xie Qingci chuckled and slowly ate his toast.

By the time the groceries were delivered, it was already nine in the evening.

Yu Xia was curled up on the sofa playing on her phone and dozed off unknowingly. Xie Qingci was holding her from behind, not wanting to let go even when the doorbell rang, until Yu Xia woke up annoyed and slapped his hand.

"So noisy."

"I’ll get the door; you keep lying down," he gently comforted her.

He brought the groceries in and quietly started preparing for a midnight snack, the sound of the flame lighting up startled Yu Xia into turning over to watch his back.

In this day and age, it’s not unusual for men to cook, but not many are willing to do it often, especially in the entertainment industry, where most only pretend for the good-guy persona.

Despite his young age, he was quite skilled at cooking. Even if he seemed a bit nonchalant, it didn’t take away from the charm he exuded while doing it.

Though only twenty, he had the stability of someone who’s been a homemaker for years.

"Xie Qingci, what are you making?"

Xie Qingci turned to look at her and said, "Soup noodles, cooked with radishes and egg soup, it’s savory and low-calorie. Is that alright?"

"Sounds good."

She sat up holding the thin blanket, yawning and looking around for her shoes.

It took her a while to realize that she’d been carried around everywhere since she left the room, so her shoes were probably still in the room.

Forget it.

She retracted her feet and leaned back on the sofa, yawning again, her eyelashes wet with tears.

It was too quiet, so she made small talk with him: "I originally came over to comfort you, afraid you’d be upset by your first online harassment, but who would’ve thought... Have you read the comments? Not upset, huh?"

"Upset, but not when you’re here."

She pouted: "I haven’t even had a chance to say any comforting words yet."

She initially thought she’d hug him, talk about the troubles stars face, and maybe even pat his head and comfort him, saying, "There, there, don’t cry."

Turns out, she’s the one who ended up crying.

Xie Qingci chuckled softly, "No need. Just having you here is comfort enough."

The pan was hot; he poured in the beaten eggs with a sizzle, releasing a fragrant aroma.

The latter part of his words got lost in the sound, but Yu Xia could roughly guess.

She lingered on the sofa for half a minute, then went over barefoot and hugged him from behind.

"But I still want to comfort you. Being a star means enjoying the perks your fans bring, but also bearing the potential troubles from fan effects. You need to be prepared; this won’t be the only time it happens unless you don’t want to enjoy the fan perks anymore."

Xie Qingci’s body tensed a bit, then he poured water into the pot, covered it with a lid, and turned to pick her up.

"I know. My manager told me this when I signed with Changhui."

She wrapped her arms around his neck and said, "Actually, things aren’t too bad now. Once the next episode of the variety show starts filming, you’ll have to face the doubts and insults from people, and fans you meet on the road might yell at you too."

He shook his head, "I don’t think things are that bad yet, and you don’t need to worry about my mindset."
