Showbiz Scandal: The Official Announcement of My Ex and Myself-Chapter 229: Sister
Yu Xia and the others have no idea about the comments on the bullet screen, nor do they have the time to care.
Someone in the subway car was taking photos of Xie Qingci. Some silly girl even had her flash on, causing a group of people nearby to lift their heads to watch the commotion.
Xie Qingci pulled the brim of his hat down even further.
Yu Xia extended her finger and poked his leg.
"Why don’t you sit here? I can block you."
He didn’t hear clearly, so he bent his head further down, asking puzzledly, "Hmm? What did you say?"
Just as Yu Xia was about to repeat herself, those girls who were taking photos suddenly hesitated and said softly, "It really looks like Xie Qingci... Xie Qingci? Are you Xie Qingci?"
Yu Xia sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. Xie Qingci, however, remained calm, shook his head slightly, and said in a clearer voice than usual, "No."
Then it was time for the next stop, and with people going up and down, the girl didn’t have the chance to ask a second question.
Once most of the people got off, Xie Qingci suddenly pulled Yu Xia along and ran outside. Just as they dashed out, the subway doors closed with a beep.
They turned back to look through the transparent window, and Xie Qingci waved at those eager-eyed girls.
The girl excitedly jumped up, presumably shouting, "It’s Xie Qingci! It’s Xie Qingci and Yu Xia!"
Yu Xia chuckled at him under her breath, "Seems like our brother Qingci is quite popular among young girls; they recognized you so easily."
Xie Qingci stood on the outside blocking her, running a finger along the brim of his hat, and said lazily, "Yu Xia is even more impressive; you have fans everywhere."
There are many who can’t name him, but everyone who knows him can recognize Yu Xia.
Their names together in people’s mouths bring him a sense of delight.
They talked softly, and the people waiting to board nearby subtly observed them, seemingly not often seeing people dressed like them.
There was also a cute little girl in a woolen skirt, craning her neck to stare at them, ignoring her mother’s calls.
Luckily, the next subway arrived, and they boarded quietly.
This time there were no seats left, so Yu Xia stood in the triangular area where the cars connect, and Xie Qingci continued to stand gentlemanly in front of her, shielding her in a circle. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Standing close face to face like this, Yu Xia could clearly feel the sense of pressure he brought.
His breath, his body temperature, and his occasional discreet glances at her all radiated the same intensity.
Although he turned his head to avoid suspicion, the smooth and superior jawline under the baseball cap was exposed slightly.
Yu Xia shifted uneasily, feeling the urge to play with her phone to escape the unspoken awkwardness, but unfortunately, she didn’t have a phone now.
The subway made a turn midway, and the centrifugal force caused everyone in the car to lean to the right.
Without anything to hold onto, she wobbled and fell forward as well.
"Watch out." Xie Qingci steadied her shoulder with one hand, pushing her back to the corner to stand properly.
Typically, a man’s palm is wider than a woman’s. Just by gripping, he seemed to wrap her thin shoulder completely, and this strong contrast unexpectedly emphasized her frailness.
Yu Xia quickly stood firm, awkwardly thanked Xie Qingci, "Thank you."
Xie Qingci looked at her with a half-smile, withdrawing his hand to his side for a slight rub.
"Yu..." He halted the address mid-sentence, as if afraid of being recognized, then switched to call, "Sister."
"Sister, maybe you should hold onto the strap too."
The way he called her ’sister’ was enough to make Yu Xia’s heart skip a beat.
His voice always had a magnetic quality, possessing a bit of youthful clarity, with articulate and moderate speed, making conversations instinctively worth listening to.
Yet, privately speaking with her, particularly when calling her "sister," his tone would rise playfully as if imbued with sugar, lazily acting coquettish.
At such moments, he would feign a demeanor of being just casually acquainted.
She stared straight ahead, decisively refusing, "I’d rather not."
Xie Qingci: "It’s okay. If you can’t reach, I can lift you up a bit."
"..." She slowly turned to glare at him, "Are you calling me short?"
Ten stations later, they got off the subway.
Xie Qingci obediently followed behind Yu Xia, and as they climbed the stairs, he asked from behind, "Sister, are you really not buying me dinner?"
Yu Xia replied sarcastically, "Someone shorter like me needs more nutrition, yet someone as tall as you is still eating?"
Xie Qingci discreetly arched his brows, slowly extending his hand as if wanting to grab her clothes to explain, but halfway reaching, he hesitated and withdrew. It seemed as though he was unsure about how to mend his words.
He appeared a bit awkward.
Some of the people descending alongside couldn’t help but watch them, with looks seemingly urging him to seize the chance to hold the girl.
Noticing his gaze, the onlookers quickly shifted away.
On the escalator, crowded with people, they couldn’t advance swiftly; waiting for the elevator to move slowly upward was their only choice.
At such a time, someone on the descending elevator recognized Yu Xia, eyeing her suspiciously.
As the elevators intersected, that person took a closer look, widening their eyes gasping in surprise, "Yu Xia?! Xie Qingci?"
Regardless of direction, everyone’s head turned toward them.
"Xie Qingci? Is that Xie Qingci?"
"Yu Xia! That’s Yu Xia! I just saw her ad outside the subway!"
"Yu Xia! Xia!"
"They’re recording a show! Can’t believe they’re here!"
"Quick, take photos! Is it possible to ask for an autograph?"
The hushed whispers grew louder, with some even attempting to follow them on the down escalator.
Yu Xia hurriedly warned them, "Be careful! Don’t run backward!"
Her shout confirmed it, as everyone started staring at them, and those who had exited the elevator kept looking back.
But exceptions existed; the ones pressed for time felt annoyed, walking past them while rolling their eyes.
Yu Xia was accustomed to such scenes, feeling indifferent, swiftly running forward once off the escalators while calling for Xie Qingci.
"Hurry, we need to move before fans block the subway’s entrance."
It’s not merely about the number of fans; people naturally gather out of curiosity, potentially blocking the exit.
However, the ticket barrier delayed them a bit, those who realized stars were present hastily followed.
The click of cameras drawing closer and closer.
Yu Xia promptly scanned her card, but unfortunately encountered a barrier malfunction, producing continuous beeping without opening.
Thinking to switch lanes, the incoming crowd surged, with someone loudly asking, "Yu Xia! Can we take a group photo?!"
Perhaps there was no malice, but this certainly disrupted others; Yu Xia was jostled against a barrier, failing to insert her card into the slot.
She intended to try again, but suddenly two hands reached out, grabbing her waist and directly hoisting her over the barrier!
