Showbiz Scandal: The Official Announcement of My Ex and Myself-Chapter 136: Can’t Blame Me for Being Too Attractive
Before filming, Yu Xia made it a point to nap for an hour. When she woke up, she felt refreshed, her eyes shimmering like water, making everyone she looked at seem like a feast.
The actor playing her younger brother had completed his look and came over to plead with her to "go easy on him."
Yu Xia, seeing his youthful and sunny appearance, nodded with a squinting smile, "We can work that out."
This time her costume was a red silk hip-hugging dress, tightly cinched at the waist, paired with sky-high heels, and cascading waves of hair, leaving the "younger brother" actor star-struck.
The makeup artist was intent on crafting a perfect look, so much so that Yu Xia’s mere yawn was nearly stifled.
With everything in place, the clapperboard snapped.
"’Different Paths’ scene eleven, take one, Action!"
...
Social gatherings for the elites usually take place under the cover of night.
On the second-floor balcony, Qiao Yun swirled her wine glass, observing the handsome young man across from her through the prism-like glass.
"You don’t quite resemble your brother."
Gu Jue felt awkward, "My brother, he’s just fooling around..."
She set down her glass, the base of the goblet clinking against the marble table, prompting Gu Jue to fall silent instantly.
She chuckled lightly, "Just fooling around, yes, I know."
Then she stepped forward, even though there was but a whisper of space between them. She did not pause, and her black heels wedged between his sneakers.
Gu Jue hastily retreated, landing onto the sofa behind him in surprise, looking up at her in shock.
She took the opportunity to sit across from him, her heel still positioned between his shoes—a juxtaposition of black heels and white sneakers, like a chaotic intersection of misplaced timelines, making Gu Jue’s heart race.
"If your brother wants to degrade himself by playing with a dumb little wallflower, that’s his business, as long as he doesn’t let it interfere with work. It’s a partnership, after all. I don’t want to see any underlying feelings popping up on my turf."
As she spoke, she crossed her legs, lifting her foot to gently graze along his jeans from the ankle, advancing upward along his calf.
In a fluster, Gu Jue shot to his feet, only to be gently tapped back down by her foot on his knee, leaving him dazed as he fell back into his seat.
Qiao Yun laughed again, "I heard you’re on the basketball team at school? Aren’t you tough enough for that? Yet, how come my strength, which couldn’t even kick a cat, can manage to unsettle you?"
Perhaps—if a man doesn’t truly want to leave, even the lightest touch can pull him back from fleeing headlong?
"I..." Gu Jue’s face flushed crimson, perplexed where to look, biting his lip as the foot on his calf climbed higher, drawing the red dress further up.
"Sister Qiao Yun, please, don’t do this." He turned his head to the wall, his superior jawline and burning ears revealing his embarrassment and stumbling speech, amusing Qiao Yun.
Undaunted, she continued with allure, her upturned eyes like hooks ensnaring him, high heel poised on his knee, leaning back as she lazily said:
"Didn’t you say so? Just playing around. Your brother’s become a brainless dog, so naturally, he doesn’t appeal to me anymore. You, however, are still an acceptable substitute. Once I have him underfoot, why don’t you become the pivot for the partnership between our families?"
A marriage alliance and collaboration between the two families, to prevent any project issues, Gu Jue as the future husband wouldn’t violate the pact. After all, they’re both men of the Gu Family—what’s the difference, older or younger?
Gu Jue glanced at her foot, thinking, isn’t this also having me underfoot?
"Sister Qiao Yun, don’t joke like that, my brother would be furious."
"Angry? He has no right to anger." She coolly withdrew her foot, picked up her wine glass, and swiftly emptied it onto Gu Jue’s jeans, her tone shifted from seductive to icy sternness.
"Go back and warn your brother, if he insists on being a mindless, tasteless dog, I’ll teach your Gu Family what ’just playing around’ truly means." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
With that, she stood up and left, her graceful silhouette fading into the light on the other side.
Gu Jue hung his head, his hand covering his eyes—half of him sticky and chilled under the shock, his body on taut edge.
Although it was an insult, the heat on his ears didn’t fade for a long while.
In bewilderment, he heard her voice echo from beyond the balcony.
"Gu Zhun? Tell him to get back to the office for the product development plan."
"Cut!"
The actor playing the younger brother sprang up and rushed to the changing room to swap his pants.
Sitting to the side, Yu Zhi observed the scene deeply, then after a pause, he gave Yu Xia a thumbs-up.
"The speed of that transformation was breathtaking."
Yu Xia waved nonchalantly, "I’ll take your compliment. So, director, how was that?"
"Very good, any more flair and you’ll almost be like the conniving villainess."
"..." What kind of compliment is that? She bent over to watch the replay in the camera, and upon seeing Gu Jue’s blush, the director said meaningfully, "That blush is very obvious. I was thinking he should turn red from holding his breath."
Yu Xia raised an eyebrow, "Blame me, just too charming."
Director: "..."
Some people on set who knew her slightly better teased, "You seem so at ease, haven’t you dated a younger brother before? A shy, blushing little puppy?"
A shy, blushing little puppy? Not at all, more like a wolf disguised as a dog.
She denied it, with no hint of guilt, "Of course not, it’s all in following the script."
At that moment, the younger brother came out wearing new pants, his face turned red again from teasing, feeling embarrassed looking at Yu Xia.
"Sis, your acting was so good, I almost forgot my cues halfway."
"I used to be the same, standing in front of a handsome guy would have steam coming out of my head," she laughed, "But it’s nothing, sometimes a natural reaction makes for a better shot."
She stood there in her red dress, chatting away brightly and conspicuously. Yu Zhi glanced more than once, having to admit, despite being dumped callously for her career, she really was stunning.
She was that rare "red rose and red mole" type in the entertainment industry.
Unfortunately, she was just too heartless.
After wrapping filming, it was already the early morning. Yu Xia cleaned up and went to her room to sleep, still gesturing dance moves even in her dreams.
When Mei woke her up in the morning, her mind was still groggy. But after a splash of cold water on her face, she was wide awake, grabbing her things to go.
"Let’s go, back to the show for rehearsal."
It was Saturday, time for the last rehearsal before the third public stage show. She rushed over in a hurry, squeezing in a final practice with the group.
While waiting after rehearsal, she idly chatted with others until she found herself locking eyes with Xie Qingci’s calm gaze, pausing in surprise.
Lately, due to her busy schedule, she rarely checked her phone or stopped to chat with anyone, so even though she saw Xie Qingci every day, they hadn’t had a proper conversation in days.
The messages he sent were mostly "Get enough rest" or "Good night," his face gave away no emotion. Sometimes she’d only manage a simple "Good night" in return, other times she’d fall asleep mid-typing, never sending it, missing her chance entirely.
Therefore, when seriously looking at him now, she felt an inexplicable discord.
