She Lost Memory Before the Divorce-Chapter 30 - 00: As Long as It’s About You, Theres No Trivial Matter
Chapter 30: Chapter 0030: As Long as It’s About You, There’s No Trivial Matter
“What now, Miss Liu has to be taught even how to apologize?”
The tone sunk a few degrees, startling Liu Na into instinctively shrinking back, unable to utter a word. The whispering of the people around her grew louder, making her wish she could just find a crevice in the ground to crawl into.
“Aren’t you going to apologize to Mrs. Huo right now? How can you be so thoughtless?”
Mr. Liu, sweating with urgency, saw Liu Na standing still like a log and decided to take matters into his own hands, directly slapping her across the face.
With a “smack,” the crisp sound was as clear as a park elder spinning a top, heard perfectly by everyone in the banquet hall.
Not only was Liu Na stunned, so was Mu Lan; only Huo Tingxiao remained calm, as if he had expected such a scene to ensue.
...
Shen Zichu silently sighed, feeling that Liu Na had brought this upon herself. Lin Yize’s expression remained unchanging, his attention focused on Mu Lan throughout.
“Dad, you hit me? You’ve never hit me from childhood until now.”
Liu Na looked at her father in disbelief, crying as she ran out of the banquet hall, while Mr. Liu showed no trace of heartache and casually reassured the guests.
“I’ve spoiled the child, causing everyone to witness this farce. Please, everyone, carry on, carry on.”
Everything unfolded so naturally, as if a headstrong girl had caused a minor interruption, and Mr. Liu elucidated his fatherly duty.
Only then did Mu Lan come back to her senses, realizing why this scene had transpired.
Mr. Liu had completely extracted himself from the situation while also putting Huo Tingxiao in a position where he could neither advance nor retreat. Everyone had watched him slap her across the face in public, giving face sufficiently; not even a personal grudge could be allowed to affect their collaboration now, or else he’d earn a reputation for not separating personal matters from business.
Pity, though, Huo Tingxiao wasn’t one to be manipulated. Mr. Liu must have had the guts of a bear and the heart of a leopard to brandish a broadsword before Guan Gong — Mu Lan inwardly lit a candle for Mr. Liu.
“Mr. Huo, this way please.”
Huo Tingxiao suddenly curved his lips into a cold smile.
Mr. Liu’s eyes twitched, but he continued to put on a smiling face.
“When I return, I will certainly discipline this unworthy daughter more strictly. Please, Mr. Huo, calm your anger.”
Lin Yize, who had been silent all this time, watched Mu Lan’s gaze that incessantly followed Huo Tingxiao; his eyes gradually froze over, and a torrent of jealousy emerged from the dark caverns of his heart like bloodthirsty bats.
He managed to contain his emotions, approaching Mu Lan gently.
“Are you alright?”
Mu Lan smiled and shook her head.
“I’m fine, senior. I don’t take it to heart at all. Why should I lower my standards over such people?”
“Mr. Lin seems quite concerned about my little sister-in-law. No wonder Liu Na misunderstood.”
Shen Zichu’s comment caused Mu Lan to roll her eyes involuntarily.
“You have the nerve to say that? If it wasn’t for you, would I have encountered this undeserved disaster? If there’s anyone to blame, it’s you for flirting indiscriminately. Knowing that the girl liked you and still not cutting ties decisively, you had to let it escalate to this point. Humph, you playboy, I’ll just wait and see which ‘elf’ casts a spell on you, making you fall head over heels.”
Mu Lan’s words made Shen Zichu hurriedly beg for forgiveness.
“It’s all my fault, little sister-in-law, don’t blame me. I beg your pardon, and I promise this kind of trouble won’t involve you again.”
“A single spoken apology and you think it’s all settled? Not that easy. At the very least, three meals of king crab.”
Shen Zichu let out a chuckle.
“Not just three meals, even thirty meals would be fine.”
As they joked and laughed, he subtly wedged himself between Lin Yize and Mu Lan.
Hmph, this Lin fellow, clearly up to no good, trying to steal someone else’s partner? Not a chance in the world.
His demeanor was that of an obsessive fan of a couple, ready to act at the slightest hint of disruption.
Lin Yize watched the two chatting and laughing, following behind Mu Lan and gazing at her graceful figure, his heart sinking further.
————–
The party ended, and on the way back, Huo Tingxiao was unhappy again.
Yeah, Mu Lan felt sure she had installed a radar specifically to detect Huo Tingxiao’s emotions; the moment he had any reaction, she could immediately sense it.
“What’s wrong? Are you still angry because of that General Manager Liu?”

Huo Tingxiao looked at her steadily and spoke unhurriedly.
“Why didn’t you tell me about the incident at the salon where you were humiliated by Liu Na?”
Mu Lan was stunned; so that was what was bothering him.
She pouted, her hands twisting her long hair, and replied carelessly.
“Why would I tell you about such a trivial thing?”
“There’s no such thing as a trivial matter when it comes to you.”
Huo Tingxiao uttered each word deliberately, his tone firm yet soft.
Mu Lan’s heart felt as if it had been scratched by a cat’s paw and she looked up at him dumbly.
Seeing the sincerity in his deep eyes, her heartbeat sped up uncontrollably, nearly leaping out of her throat.
When had this man learned to be so cunning? He could throw out pickup lines so casually.
She even wondered if his recent changes were because, during the time at the Mu Family, her brother might have said something to him?
Could it be that he was threatened to treat her well, or someone would be sent to assassinate him?
For the sake of his own life, Huo Tingxiao would…
Pfft, what a bizarre imagination; such a thing would never happen even if one thought with one’s toes.
The person capable of threatening Huo Tingxiao was probably not even born yet.
So what exactly was going on with him that he was acting so strangely?
Realizing what he had just said, Huo Tingxiao’s pupils dilated momentarily.
He quickly turned his gaze toward the car window, pretending as if nothing had happened.
Mu Lan didn’t know how to respond to his comment, so she decided to act as if she had suddenly become deaf and hadn’t heard a thing.
The car was so quiet that even the faint sound of breathing could be heard very clearly.
Out of the blue, Mu Lan felt a tinge of ambiguity in the air… Considering they had been intimate before, she had no reason to be so prudish.
But still, it felt…
No, no, it must be the inertia of being a loyal follower before that made her feel overly flirted with by any small action from Huo Tingxiao.
Mu Lan, snap out of it, have some dignity!
Huo Tingxiao was unaware of her inner turmoil; he was criticizing himself for saying such cheesy words.
Both were entangled in their own thoughts until they returned to the villa where they noticed that both seemed very unnatural, as if deliberately avoiding each other.
“Mu Lan, you and the young master… you guys… why does it seem a bit awkward?”
Mu Lan’s face turned red instantly, vehemently denying it.
“No, not at all awkward, I’m just tired, going upstairs first. Goodnight, Sister Li.”
Saying so, she hurriedly ran upstairs, while Huo Tingxiao loosened his tie, deliberately lingering a while before heading toward the stairs.
Sister Li shook her head, clueless as to what drama the two young people were playing out.
