She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!-Chapter 108: The Groom Ran Away on the Wedding Night (Part 19)
"Why divorce for no reason?" Yun Xiangming frowned.
Divorcing Xiang Yue was something he had never thought of. Perhaps Xiang Yue was occasionally unreasonable, but when she was good, she was truly good. They had many memories together, and although the feelings were not as they were in the beginning, he had come to regard Xiang Yue as family.
Back when he ventured out with his father, he had nothing and asked Xiang Yue if she wanted to go with him. She agreed without hesitation. The journey was tough, and Xiang Yue had endured countless days and nights with him, having become an integral part of his life.
Divorce, he never planned for a divorce.
Moreover, the bonds between the Yun Family and Xiang Yue were too deep. He believed Xiang Yue would not do anything bad to the Yun Family now, but who could predict the future? Because of this, he and Xiang Yue could not divorce.
Yun Xiangming initially thought Xiang Yue would argue as usual, to the point where his ears would hurt.
But today, Xiang Yue was exceptionally quiet, and he was not used to it.
Xiang Yue sat there, her eyes calmly observing Yun Xiangming.
They had both entered middle age, adorned in gold and silver, no longer youthful in appearance, but she still remembered the young man who ran towards her years ago on the ridge, a glance that made her heart flutter. Because of that glance, she later followed him without regrets.
To be fair, Yun Xiangming treated her well.
Compared to those who start fooling around with different women once they have some money, he was considered virtuous.
But only considered, not truly virtuous.
Perhaps she had seen too much, or maybe the passion was long gone. If he only had women on the side for fun, she probably wouldn’t have mentioned divorce. There were too many ties between them.
"I want a divorce."
"Let’s part amicably," Xiang Yue said. "Otherwise, it won’t look good. There are so many shareholders in the company; I’m not indispensable. In the future, we can just be friends. I’ll only be a shareholder of the company."
Today, Xiang Yue was acting very differently, Yun Xiangming’s frown deepened as he stared at her without blinking, speculating various things in his mind.
Suddenly, he asked, "Do you have someone you like?"
No wonder he asked; Xiang Yue was not lacking in charm, despite her usual indifference to others.
There are so many temptations outside, it wouldn’t be impossible for her, as a middle-aged woman, to suddenly fall for some man.
People always say that when men get rich they become unfaithful, but from what he knew, rich and powerful women were pretty liberal with men too. There’s a high-ranking female executive in the company who changes young boyfriends every one to three months, and each one is said to be very handsome.
"Haha..." Xiang Yue broke into laughter at the question but stopped after two laughs. "Not now, but after our divorce, who knows."
"Alright, don’t be mad." Yun Xiangming, somewhat understanding of Xiang Yue, moved closer, trying to place his hand on her shoulder, only to be dodged by her. "Xiao Yue, we’ve been married for so many years, there’s no need to talk about divorce. Even if we argue occasionally, it’s not because we aren’t compatible, right? No household is free from troubles, and conflict is inevitable among people. Arguing can solve the problem, don’t you think? We’re not young anymore, a divorce would be laughable. Would we even find anyone better after? Second marriages are just about getting by, calculating all sorts of things. It’s only our kind of first marriage, where we support each other, that’s good."
"Yes, you feel content and satisfied," Xiang Yue said. "After all, you have a capable and exceptional wife at home, and women outside having your children, having it all; of course you’re carefree."
"It’s not the same for me. My child was lost right after birth; I don’t even know if they’re alive. If they are, who knows where they are suffering? Yun Xiangming, have you forgotten what you promised me back then? You said you would help me look for the child, and even if we couldn’t find him, you wouldn’t have another, waiting for his return, giving him unique love to not let him feel abandoned."
"You didn’t have to agree, but you made such a promise to me. You know, once I’ve made up my mind, not even ten bulls can pull me back."
Just like many people had advised her back then, but she still, without hesitation, followed Yun Xiangming, who had nothing.
Many people thought she made a good bet.
She thought so too.
But this good bet wasn’t on Yun Xiangming; it was about seeing a bigger and broader world with him.
Those who thought she had good judgment wouldn’t know what her greatest gain was.
It could be said that even if she didn’t stay with Yun Xiangming later, there would have been no regrets in coming out this trip.
She wasn’t without ability; even without Yun Xiangming, she could carve out her own path. As for the current Yun Family business, she might not compare with the contributions of the old master considering she was only 15 or 16 back then, but her efforts were no less than Yun Xiangming’s.
Even though Yun Xiangming had children elsewhere, she wasn’t that angry. With Yun Xiangming’s current status, how could he wait with her for their child’s return? It was too naive a thought.
She was just a bit disappointed.
As time passed, some things were destined to change completely.
"Xiao Yue, I just want a child." Yun Xiangming was taken aback, then said somewhat sadly. "I discussed it with you back then, but you were against it no matter what."
Many of their conflicts stemmed from this.
The business had grown so large, it needed an heir, so he had to take measures. An heir should ideally be nurtured from a young age to stand alone in the future.
"Dad wants a grandson too. I can’t just watch the old man be unhappy, right?"
Xiang Yue shook her head: "You want to have one, have it with someone else, I don’t mind, provided you divorce me first. You have a pair of children out there, the older is fifteen, the younger almost ten, your family has hidden it from me quite well."
"Let’s divorce."
"Agree, and we’ll have the lawyers handle all aspects. If you don’t agree, we’ll go through litigation." Xiang Yue took a deep breath and stood up.
She no longer had the energy to bicker with Yun Xiangming.
"Divorcing would also give me more time to search for my son."
Yun Xiangming wanted to say something, but upon hearing this, he couldn’t help but sigh.
"Sister-in-law, how did things get to the point of divorce?" Yun Qing looked distressed. "You and my brother had such a good relationship, it didn’t have to come to this. The Yun Family just needs an heir; my brother’s heart is really with you."
Xiang Yue shook her head and brushed past Yun Qing to go upstairs.
The sister-in-law might have said a few sincere words; she could tell their relationship was usually just superficial harmony.
Even the other party knew.
It seemed everyone had been keeping it from her.
"Brother, are you really going to divorce sister-in-law?" Yun Qing moved closer. "Well, normally I only see you two arguing, but I never thought it would escalate to this point."
Yun Xiangming’s gaze fell on her, taking a deep breath. "I’ll talk to her again."
"But I think sister-in-law’s heart is set on divorce, it will be hard to persuade her." Yun Qing said while drinking water, lowering her eyes to hide a hint of smugness. "If you really can’t force it, then divorce. Watching you two argue all the time is tiresome for everyone. And those nephew and niece, surely you can’t keep them outside all the time, right? Given they’re heirs, keeping them outside isn’t good for their reputation. Now sister-in-law..."
"Qingqing, enough!" Yun Xiangming raised his voice. "I won’t divorce Xiao Yue!"
If Xiao Yue had agreed to have another child, he would never have gone to other women for one.
Even though the passion was gone, no one could compare to Xiao Yue; the people outside only liked his money.
Yun Qing was startled, and suddenly felt aggrieved, her eyes brimming with tears. "Why are you so harsh? After all, it’s not going well for you two, what’s wrong with divorcing? I’m just giving you a suggestion, isn’t it for your own good? Now I’m getting blamed. As expected, I’m just a pitiful..."
"Is it really unrelated to you?" Yun Xiangming, seeing Yun Qing’s stunned expression, suddenly leaned closer and said in a low voice, "Qingqing, it’s been almost twenty years, I think that’s enough, enough for you to vent the past grievances, don’t you think?"
Yun Qing’s eyes widened, he knew?!
As if confirming her suspicions, Yun Xiangming said, "I’ll discuss it with Dad, don’t do anything anymore."
Dad knew too?
Yun Qing nearly stumbled.
