She is the Side Character! — Watch Her Change her fate!-Chapter 104: The Groom Ran Away on the Wedding Night (Part 15)
It’s really beautiful.
Especially when worn on Sister Ah Chen’s wrist, it makes this crystal bracelet even more gorgeous.
Her hand truly complements the bracelet.
Xie Yan gazed at that slender, fair wrist a bit lost, feeling it deserved all the world’s most expensive and beautiful jewelry. He slowly shifted his gaze, his eyes gradually becoming determined, as if he found a new goal.
"Do you remember that Old Man Zhou who extorted you last time?" Ah Chen’s voice broke in, pulling Xie Yan back from his thoughts.
Recalling what she asked, he cleared away that slight discomfort in his eyes, showing some curiosity: "What about him?"
With a smile in her eyes, Ah Chen looked at him and said, "He got his comeuppance."
Originally, she wanted to cause some trouble for Old Man Zhou’s family, making them cough up what they consumed, plus some compensation.
However, she had been a bit busy recently. The chicken farm no longer required much of her attention, but the feed factory had just started up, and she still needed to manage it.
It wasn’t until she had time to pay attention to Old Man Zhou’s family that she learned they had really bad luck, seemingly having to spit out everything they took. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"Old Man Zhou’s eldest son hit someone, not just one person, but a group of thugs." Ah Chen continued, with her gaze on Xie Yan’s face, she laughed, "So it turned into a mess. I heard they had to pay back all the money they made last time, otherwise those thugs would never leave them in peace."
Xie Yan nervously clenched his fist, and said solemnly: "Perhaps it’s just retribution."
He never did such things, but after being extorted by Old Man Zhou last time, he couldn’t let it go, as he was never the type to take things lying down.
If it weren’t for his reluctance to return to that Yun Family and his desire to stay in this town to finish his studies, Yuan Zhicheng would have also faced a lesson. Yuan Zhicheng was doing well, and as long as he didn’t turn against him, and faithfully helped him get things done, Xie Yan would, out of respect for Sister Ah Chen, overlook his past actions.
There are three reasons he won’t return to the Yun Family. First, he’s not sure if he’s really from the Yun Family, and rashly exposing everything would spell disaster for both him and Sister Ah Chen, a risk he can’t afford. Second, he simply doesn’t want to go back; he prefers to stay here, without understanding why at the moment. Third, even if he is a Yun Family member, is that family truly worth returning to? That person named Yun Qing has caused him suffering for so many years; have the Yun Family members really noticed nothing? He doesn’t believe it. Since they’ve noticed and no one came to help him, it means someone indulged her. Regardless of who it is, that place isn’t worth returning to for him.
As for the Yun Family’s power and wealth, even being the richest in Jiang City, he holds no regard for it.
It all belongs to someone else and has nothing to do with him.
To take anything from the Yun Family, there must be various preconditions, such as a lack of freedom, restricted actions, and constant limitations. Perhaps to many people, it’s considered lucky, but he’s truly not interested.
Only what he earns through his own efforts and struggle are truly his.
"Yes, it’s retribution," Ah Chen nodded, "He deserved it."
"I really like this," Ah Chen raised her wrist, "But you’re still a student, and with high school entrance exams coming up, you can’t afford any distractions. If you really want to earn some money, wait until the holidays and come here for a summer job."
"It’s definitely better than outside." She ruffled his hair.
Xie Yan didn’t dodge, as if the thought hadn’t even crossed his mind, and he agreed comfortably.
The earlier tension was relieved, and it seemed Sister Ah Chen hadn’t noticed any connection between the misfortunes of Old Man Zhou’s family and him.
"I heard from Liao Qian that you did very well in your studies, and if you participate in the town rankings, you might even be first. Is that true?"
Xie Yan nodded without hesitation, "It’s true."
He was confident in this aspect.
"The mid-term exam is a town-wide unified test, and there will be a town-wide ranking at that time," Xie Yan promised, "I’ll bring back a first-place for Sister Ah Chen."
"Then I’ll wait for you to bring it back."
Xie Yan clenched his fist, then he must get serious!
No one could snatch away his first place.
He wouldn’t let her down.
The weekend quickly passed, and Xie Yan and Liao Qian returned to school.
After them, Ah Chen sponsored two more students destined to cross her path, a pair of twin sisters, also around fifteen or sixteen years old. Due to their poor family conditions, they were preparing to work in another city. They were almost tricked by fellow villagers to be sold off, but she happened to encounter them.
They even tried to deceive her, but it was just bad luck for those traffickers.
Once the feed factory was on track, Ah Chen, having more time, decided to probe into the background of the Yun Family in Jiang City.
"Going out on a trip?"
Hearing that Ah Chen was going out on a trip, Jiang Hongying’s voice involuntarily raised, nearly dropping the bowl she was holding. It was the peak of the farming season, getting busier by the day. That Lv Chen, doing nothing at home and merely freeloading, wants to go out and have fun?
How infuriating.
Unfortunately, the third brother still hadn’t shown any sign.
When would the third brother come back?
If the third brother didn’t return soon, she feared Lv Chen would really stir things up.
"Yes, just to relax. Since getting married, I’ve felt this pent-up irritability; it’s driving me crazy, or soon will. I heard that visiting new places might improve my mood, so I’ll give it a try." Ah Chen casually reclined on the chair, appearing at ease, "My parents agreed to fund a trip for me."
Jiang Hongying’s heart ached, estimating it would be a significant amount. Lv Family first had the chicken farm, then the feed factory, and clearly were growing wealthier, yet the Shen Family had not gained anything.
Earlier this year, she even visited the Lv Family to pay respect, only to receive a cold shoulder, while they even tried to persuade Lv Chen to return home right in front of her.
There was no way Jiang Hongying would agree to that.
Not to mention having to compensate a hefty sum should she let Lv Chen return, and Lv Chen had been a thorn to her side for so long. Relinquishing her without getting even would be a hard pill to swallow. She fully intended to wait for the third brother to come back, to subdue Lv Chen and relish her rightful position as the matriarch before deciding on her return.
Truth be told, when the time comes, she would rather keep Lv Chen.
By then, the Lv Family was rather affluent, if the third brother managed to tame Lv Chen, wouldn’t conquering the Lv Family follow? Ding Haiying treasures this daughter dearly; she wouldn’t leave her without an inheritance.
How could she oppose Ah Chen going on a trip? Of course, she couldn’t.
She even had to remind her to be careful and have fun during her journey.
The next day, Ah Chen set off.
Jiang City wasn’t close by; taking the train took three days. Naturally, she bought a sleeper, but even that space was cramped and not too comfortable.
Anyhow, it was far better than having no seat at all.
Three days later, Ah Chen followed the crowd out of the train station. Suddenly, she halted, catching a hand reaching for her bag, gripping it hard enough that the owner of the wrist screamed.
The crowd parted, revealing the scene.
Turned out, it was a fair-skinned young girl, catching a thief with his hand inside her bag.
Smiling, she asked, "Making such a fuss, are you a newbie?"
The thief’s face flushed red; he had been in this industry for years, a seasoned hand by now. Whenever he came to the train station, he never left empty-handed. Except last year, he had bad luck, stealing a wallet full of money meant for the deceased, angering him to no end.
Unexpectedly, he was even unluckier this year, being caught and mocked as a rookie.
How could she insult him like that?
