She Belongs To The Devil-Chapter 823: Acquaintance
All the ladies exchanged questioning glances with each other upon hearing the question from their friend. From the vacant look they shared, it seemed like none of them knew a middle-aged woman who went by the name of Scarlett.
"I don’t think I’ve ever heard that name before," one of the women who was standing close to Kenneth spoke up.
The other woman who was standing at the back of the group also shook her head and mumbled, "And neither have I." She turned her head to look at the shopkeeper and asked him, "Mr. Derrick, you know almost everyone in this village. I bet you know someone by that name."
The shopkeeper was rolling the fabric when the woman questioned him. He was still mad at Damien and Kenneth for coming to his shop and stealing his thunder.
And without even sparing a glance at the gentlemen who were surrounded by all his prospective customers, he shook his head and politely denied, "Stormford is a huge village, Ms. Amity. Even I don’t recognize everyone."
The woman didn’t know if the shopkeeper was speaking the truth or not. But she felt bad that none of them could help out the handsome gentlemen in need.
Both Damien and Kenneth heaved a deep sigh when they didn’t get any useful information. They had no idea if anyone else in the village would be willing to help them. However, it was what it was. They had no other option than to accept it and move on from there.
"We will try asking someone else. Come." Damien pulled Kenneth away from the swarm of women and led him further ahead down the road.
Even after coming across a lot of people as they walked down the road, both of them didn’t want to question anyone since most of the villagers were now giving them that look of hostility and suspicion again.
"At this rate, we are never going to find her," Kenneth thought to himself and pretended to scratch his forehead to hide his red pair of eyes from one particular man who was giving off a familiar smell of a werewolf.
It seemed as though that man was somewhat confused by what he was seeing and what he was smelling. And because he couldn’t figure out if Kenneth was a vampire or a werewolf, he was unintentionally glaring at the hybrid for quite a while now.
Damien also noticed the look given by that man to Kenneth. Thus, he cleared his throat loudly to get the attention of that man and also to passive-aggressively warn that man not to glare at his friend like that.
"I don’t think we can get information from anyone in this village," Damien thought to himself with a deep frown on his forehead.
And then went through a possible list of alternative options in his head. "Either we will have to find Scarlett by checking each and every household ourselves, which is definitely going to take a lot of time and effort. Or I might have to return to Romania and bring Miriam here. At least, she might be able to direct us to the exact location herself."
Seeing how the second option was the best one they had at their disposal at the moment, Damien turned his head to look at Kenneth and voiced his opinion, "Ken, I think I will make a trip back to Romania and bring Miriam along with me."
"Miriam?" Kenneth scrunched his brows and asked, confused as to who Damien was referring to.
"The woman who told you about Scarlett!" Damien replied, reminding Kenneth of the obvious.
"Oh!" Kenneth rubbed the bridge of his nose and tried to give that option a second thought.
However, before he could express how he felt about Damien’s proposal, both the boys heard a soft voice from behind them.
"I am sorry but I couldn’t help but unintentionally overhear your conversation."
Both Damien and Kenneth turned around to find a woman whom they had seen earlier at the shop with all the other women.
Before the gentlemen would see her as someone rude for eavesdropping on other’s private conversation, the lady apologized to them, "Please excuse me for the intrusion, Milords but… were the two of you just talking about Miriam?"
A subtle hint of curiosity was running around on her face.

Sensing that the woman might be an acquaintance of Miriam, Damien gave a nod and answered in a jolly voice, "Oh, yes indeed. Do you, by any chance, know who Miriam is? And preferably, do you also know where she used to live, that is if you know who she is in the first place?"
"Ah! So, you were talking about her, huh." The woman pressed both of her palms in front of her chest and gave a wistful smile. Her eyes glistened and dilated. It seemed like she was recalling some fond memories about Miriam.
She sniffled and then looked at the tall foreigners. And with a soft smile on her face, she answered, "Miriam used to be my closest friend before her parents married her off to someone from a faraway land. So yes, I know where she used to live."
Kenneth’s gaze softened when he heard that. "Does this mean I will get to see her soon?" The anticipation alone started to make his heart beat at a faster rate.
And right after, a sudden sense of nervousness and restlessness began to eat him up from the inside. He was too eager to find out who Scarlett was.
"Give us the address!" Kenneth unintentionally exclaimed at the woman, almost startling her. "Please," he added in a softer tone so that he wouldn’t come off as a rude rich brat to someone who was finally willing to help him.
That woman didn’t seem to mind because she had already witnessed how the two of them were very desperate to get that information. She wanted to be of some help to them, which was the reason why she had abandoned her other friends and began following the gentlemen.
And when she heard a familiar name being mentioned by them, she couldn’t help but interject in their conversation so that she could be of assistance.
"Miriam used to live in a small house that was near the forest over there," she said while pointing her index finger towards the edge of the village. "Her parents have now shifted to a new house on fifth street. But since you two are searching for someone else, I figured that you wanted her parent’s old address."
"Ah!" Damien heaved a sigh of relief and thanked the lady for coming to their rescue. "You just saved a lot of my energy. Thank you so much!"
The lady blushed a little when she heard the polite words from Damien. "I’m glad that I could be of some help."
While the two of them were busy exchanging pleasantries with each other, Kenneth was busy looking over in the direction that was mentioned by the lady. He could see that the edge of the forest also had quite a few houses.
Since he didn’t want to waste any more time going through the same process while trying to find Scarlett’s exact house, he turned to look at the lady and asked, "Amity, was it? Your name?"
"Y-Yes, Milord." The lady looked surprised that the handsome foreigner was even paying any attention to remembering her name.
Kenneth exchanged a glance with Damien and then looked back at the lady to ask her, "Will you be kind enough to guide us to the exact house? That is only if you don’t have any prior appointment somewhere else."
"Oh! Umm…" The lady blushed even more because the gentlemen were inviting her to accompany them. She quickly glanced towards the road that she had just come from to see if any of her friends were hiding somewhere and listening in to their conversation.
When she didn’t see anyone around, she clutched her hands together and shyly thought to herself, "They would be really jealous if they saw me with them."
"Ms. Amity?" Kenneth slightly raised his brows and waited for her to reply.
She jumped out of her daydream and nodded while looking at Kenneth. "I would happily guide the two of you. It seems like you are acquaintances of Miriam. So, it is my duty to help you two in any way I can."
Both Damien and Kenneth felt like they had come across an angel who was willing to help them in their time of need.
Damien gestures his hand towards the road ahead and said politely, "After you, Milady."
