Chapter 405: The Path That Inspired Jesse James Part 2/2: Once Broken

Well-Dressed Man: "Now, changing the tone, have you ever had something broken? Think about that for a second.

What was the first thing you thought of?"

With the moment of silence given to her, the sad pink eyes of the magical women tear up thinking of her own answer to the question.

Well-Dressed Man: "May I ask, was it a material thing such as your car, motorcycle, lawn mower? Maybe you thought of your favorite cup or necklace that you hold dear?

Oh, the list we could write of material things that have been broken in our lives.

Some of us might have thought a different way like a broken bone or a broken heart, or broken relationship, maybe broken dreams or even a broken spirit.

Which none of them are easy to recover from.

But did anybody think of this broken world?"

Once again, Jesse’s eyes widen in surprise to the man’s own thoughts to his own pondering mind.

Jesse James(thinking): *That...is true...*

Well-Dressed Man: "The fact is, we live in a broken world!

Where every second of everyday things are broken. Whether it be material, physical, emotionally, or spiritually?

Can we agree that we live in a broken world?

I will be reading from psalms 27:13-14 If you’d like to follow along?"

He waits a moment for the few to find their page and spot in the writing, Jesse James doesn’t move.

Phæstis is sitting on the floor, she opens the book upside-down.

Well-Dressed Man: "’I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.

David psalms it up perfectly.

There’s my last joke of the day, I promise."

There are a few chuckles in the room before he continues with a soft smile.

Well-Dressed Man: "When we go outside into the world do we see goodness or brokenness?

Most of us live in the inner city so, the brokenness is easily seen. If you’ve ever driven downtown you see the homeless sitting on the library steps or at the bus terminal.

If you go outside of this building, you see mental illness and addiction.

If you walk down the street you see the broken hearted and you see the broken spirits.

If you turn on your TV and watch the news you see the violence all over the world.

If you look at social media, you’re most likely to see horrific things from car accidents and fights to people falling.

It’s a total chaos of brokenness.

Do you agree?

Do you agree that it’s easy to see the brokenness?"

There are a few responses of ’Yes!’ and ’Amen!’, but quietly on the ground, Phæstis tilts her head. Her finger to her cheek.

Phæstis: "Noooo..."

Jesse James glances at her magical colleague but nobody hears her, and the sermon continues.

Well-Dressed Man: "If you look back at verse 13, ’I remain confident, I will see the goodness of the lord in the land of the living’, it’s not always easy to see the goodness.

But have you ever driven downtown and seen the goodness of God?

Whether it be the goodness of giving food to the same homeless at the bus terminal.

Do you see the goodness that the mobile ministry has here in the parking lot? Passing out clothes and items and bringing smiles to the families in need.

Do you see the goodness of God when you look out your window? And see a little bird flying by, or a flower, turning toward the light of the Son.

Spelt with an O.

Maybe you do see the goodness of god on social media. When a friend praising the Lord posts an ’Amen’. It’s not always easy to see the goodness of God when there’s so much brokenness.

So I ask you all, How do we fix this broken world?"

The question makes the out of place, young 2nd Generation DæMon look at her hands once again. This time, it gets covered in her pink SoulSeiõrShield, surprising Jesse James, but she keeps her cool as to not draw suspicion.

Well-Dressed Man: "If you’ve ever tried to fix something that was broken. It doesn’t always go as planned. Whether it be a cup, a car or a relationship? Sometimes it just doesn’t work.

Like Humpty Dumpty if you’re familiar with the nursery rhyme. All the king’s horses and all the king’s men couldn’t put Humpty back together again.

It’s not easy to fix brokenness!

Jesus himself acknowledges this."

The small crowd once again chants and ’Amen!’ in response to his truth.

Phæstis "looks" at Jesse James’ new coating of magical energy.

Phæstis: "Ohhhhh, prettyyyyy..."

Well-Dressed Man: "In the book of John, Chapter 16, Jesus is talking to his disciples and says in verse 33 ’I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace, In the world you will have troubles, but take heart I have overcome the world."

This verse is meaningful in a bunch of different ways. In one way, Jesus is acknowledging that in this world, we will have trouble or brokenness.

He knows of the brokenness.

In the second part of that verse, he goes on to say and this is good, this is really good.

He says, ’But take heart, I have overcome the world!’

Isn’t that good news? Where would we be if it wasn’t for Jesus Praise Jesus.

Amen."

The Crowd: "Amen!"

Well-Dressed Man: "Yes, there will still be brokenness or darkness that always exists here as the devil tries to break us down.

But if we put our faith in Jesus we will be prepared for the ups and the downs of this life.

I have a story of my own brokenness.

I’m 49 years old.

I had been broken, beaten and battered.

Growing up I often felt abandoned, alone, worthless, unlovable, just broken.

I often blamed my mother and my father for the brokenness in my life. From the addictions or the failed relationships, even the broken dreams, I just felt broken.

Then one day at one of the lowest points

In my life, I picked up this book.

I started to read and although I didn’t truly understand how it would help my brokenness, I read."

Jesse James looks down at the upside-down Bible in Phæstis’ hands, her head sideways trying to decipher the words to the scripture.

The pink haired, stone faced women slowly snatches it from her companion and flips through it as if reading each page at a glance.

Well-Dressed Man: "I started to read about this guy Jesus. The more I read the more I was intrigued.

I started to believe that if I put my trust in Jesus things could and would happen.

And they did!

Piece by piece, Jesus is fixing the brokenness in my life.

I no longer feel abandoned, I no longer feel alone. I no longer feel unlovable.

Which reminds me of what Jesus says in John 8:12. ’I am the light of the world. Who ever follows me will never walk in darkness, But will have the light of life.’

Some may ask what does any of this have to do with the brokenness of this world?

Well, if you remember me quoting Jesus in John 16, there will be ’trouble’ and ’brokenness’ in this world’. Then quoting David’s psalm "I will see the goodness of God in the land of the living. Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord’."

Closing the Bible, the determined, sad eyes of Jesse James looks up to the stain glass windows. The glass image of the sun’s light shining down on a woman below makes it clear to the future Sheriff of Vinland.

Jesse James(thinking): *My destiny...Was I born to be their next savior...?*
