Sharing Dreams with My Bestie's Cousin-Chapter 76 - Anger him
Chapter 76: Anger him
Chapter 76: Anger him
Wen Zhi felt listless as she came down from the back mountain.
Along the way, pilgrims asked her for directions, which she provided one by one, also reminding them to be mindful of the rugged mountain paths and to stay safe.
The pilgrims pressed their palms together in thanks to her.
But as soon as she turned around, she sprained her ankle due to her hurried pace. Fortunately, it wasn’t serious, but she could only walk slowly.
When she grew tired, she would sit down on a rock, massaging her ankle with one hand while fanning herself with the other, a few strands of hair sticking to her cheek.
At that moment, a tall shadow fell over her, and from above came a voice asking, “Excuse me, how do I get to the Feiquan Waterfall?”
Without looking up, Wen Zhi freed a hand to point the way, “Just cross over that Xiaoqiu Slope, and you will see the Feiquan Waterfall. However, there are wild monkeys around there, so be careful, and protect your backpack and phone.”
“Could you lead the way?” the man asked her.
Wen Zhi was slightly stunned.
If she hadn’t recognized his voice just now because she was fanning herself and momentarily distracted, she definitely recognized it this time. It was unmistakably clear.
Slowly, she lifted her head and saw Shang Hexing’s tall figure standing before her, perfectly shielding her from the blazing sun.
He hadn’t left?
Surprised, Wen Zhi quickly got up.
As she did, a sharp pain shot through her ankle, causing her to grimace and cry out, her body uncontrollably leaning to one side.
Shang Hexing steadied her wrist, “Be careful.”
Wen Zhi, finding her balance, couldn’t hide the surprise in her eyes and said softly, “So you haven’t left after all.”
Shang Hexing asked, “Do you really wish that I had left?”
“No, no,” she quickly shook her head in denial.
Shang Hexing asked again, “Or do you want me to stay?”
Wen Zhi choked up and suddenly fell silent, gazing at him expectantly.
Her appearance was particularly heartrending.
Especially those red, teary, almond-shaped eyes.
Shang Hexing slightly furrowed his brows, reaching out toward her face, “Have you been crying?”
Wen Zhi shook her head, tilting her small face upward, quietly savoring the tenderness of his touch upon her cheek.
Shang Hexing asked again, “Did you sprain your foot as well?”
Wen Zhi shook her head again.
The sun was intense, but he blocked it all, enveloping her petite frame so it didn’t feel hot in the slightest.
Pilgrims continued to pass by from time to time, and Wen Zhi, afraid of being recognized by the ones from the Buddha Hall and suspected of engaging in romance here, deliberately hid every time one of them went by.
Shang Hexing noticed her small actions and asked, “How are you any different from a thief with a guilty conscience?”
Wen Zhi drew a breath, “The difference is, I’m not a thief.”
Shang Hexing chuckled, lifting a finger to trace her eyelid gently, sighing, “Your eyes are so red, there must be a reason, right?”
Her eyelashes trembled slightly as she blurted out, “Stung by a bee.”
Shang Hexing, “Happened to be stung in both eyes?”
Wen Zhi nodded.
Shang Hexing pulled a faint smile, “Do you think I believe that?”
“Believe it or not, it’s still the same, I’m not lying to you,” she insisted earnestly, even though everything she said was false.
Shang Hexing knew her well.
She was a little liar, the best at deceiving others.
He rested his hand on her shoulder, pulling her a bit closer, “Tell me, who has upset you.”
This position was very intimate, making Wen Zhi slightly uncomfortable, and she wasn’t going to tell him the truth, especially not her own family matters. So she lied again, “I was just reminded of some sad memories, that’s all.”
Shang Hexing inquired, “Sad memories, enough to make your eyes cry like that, must be quite sorrowful then.”
Wen Zhi’s throat tightened.
She knew he was tempting her to tell the truth, but not everyone could easily open their heart to others, so she took half a step back, out of his embrace, and said with her head bowed, “Mr. Shang, there should be no intimacy between men and women.”
Shang Hexing smirked with exasperation, “Can’t even touch you with concern?”
Wen Zhi insisted, “No, you can’t.”

It was time to maintain a distance, she couldn’t have too much physical contact with him anymore.
Shang Hexing, left with no choice, withdrew his hand, “Then please lead the way.”
Wen Zhi was confused for a few seconds, “Go where?”
She had forgotten.
But soon, she remembered.
So she pointed to Shang Hexing in that direction, “Feiquan Waterfall is over there, just over Xiaoqiu Slope, not very far, I’m not lying to you.”
Shang Hexing didn’t even look at the direction she pointed, but instead, gazed at her, speaking indifferently, “It’s so boring to go see it alone.”
The implication was obvious.
Wen Zhi asked, “Does Mr. Shang lack company?”
Shang Hexing looked at her quietly, his silence serving as tacit consent, waiting for her to state her position.
But what he received instead was her saying, “The last time I heard Shang Jing calling Xie Weiyue ‘sister-in-law,’ I suppose Mr. Shang’s good fortune with Miss Xie is drawing near, right? If Mr. Shang lacks company, having Miss Xie by your side would surely prevent boredom.”
Having said that, she sported an appropriately modest smile on her face.
In contrast, Shang Hexing’s expression wasn’t very good.
He seemed to be angered, with a hint of hostility forming between his brows, “Are you really bothered by it?”
This was the first time Wen Zhi witnessed that when Shang Hexing was not gentle, his authority was like a river laying between them.
A river obstructed by thousands of mountains and diversions.
“Mr. Shang, I just think that our ambiguous relationship is not very appropriate,” Wen Zhi dared not look into his eyes.
Shang Hexing’s voice was deep, “Ambiguous?”
He moved closer to her, and Wen Zhi stepped back in panic, nearly falling over without realizing it.
Shang Hexing grabbed her arm and asked her, “Are you really bothered by Shang Jing calling Xie Weiyue ‘sister-in-law’?”
“I have no right to be bothered, and moreover…” Wen Zhi mustered up her courage to say, “Mr. Shang, you and Miss Xie really are a good match, whether it’s the illustrious family backgrounds or both of you personally.”
“You think we are a good match?” His tone was cold, tinged with anger.
“Yes, very suitable,” Wen Zhi said firmly.
“Then these recent evenings…” Shang Hexing’s impulsive words were cut off by a voice from behind.
“Excuse me—”
It turned out to be a pilgrim asking for directions.
Wen Zhi stole a glance at Shang Hexing’s face, which was dark enough to drip water, she took a deep breath and carefully pushed him away a bit, turned to the waiting pilgrim and asked, “What is the matter?”
The pilgrim politely inquired, “Could you please tell me which direction to go to reach Feiquan Waterfall?”
Wen Zhi glanced at Shang Hexing and then replied to the pilgrim, “Head that way, and you will see it after crossing over Xiaoqiu Slope, but be careful as there are wild monkeys in the area, make sure to protect your backpack and phone.”
The pilgrim was very thankful to Wen Zhi, expressing repeated thanks and spontaneously added, “You two look like a perfect match.”
Wen Zhi choked, “…”
Once the pilgrim left, Wen Zhi immediately turned to Shang Hexing and said, “Didn’t Mr. Shang say he wanted to go to Feiquan Waterfall? That pilgrim just now is on his way there, Mr. Shang could accompany him.”
Shang Hexing watched her for a while before saying, “We are a perfect match.”
Wen Zhi was startled, “What?”
Shang Hexing stated, “The pilgrim just now said that we make a perfect match.”
Wen Zhi felt a bitterness in her throat; the words wavered on the tip of her tongue, hesitating, until finally, she said, “Mr. Shang should decide where he wants to go by himself, I’ve been too interfering, I am truly sorry.”
After speaking, she turned and headed down the mountain.
Shang Hexing watched her departing figure until she disappeared from view, and only then did he take out his phone and make a call.
Shang Jing’s light-hearted voice came through the speaker, “Big brother, I hear you went to Lin City for an inspection?”
“Shang Jing.”
Shang Hexing called out in a serious tone.
