Sharing Dreams with My Bestie's Cousin-Chapter 29 - Really touching
Chapter 29: Really touching
Chapter 29: Really touching
Shang Jing rerouted their path and said to Wen Zhi, “I have some very important matters to attend to, so I can’t take you back to the old house. After we enter the city, you pick a spot to get off, and I’ll arrange for another car to pick you up.”
Wen Zhi insisted, “You can’t enter Baixi Manor.”
Shang Jing didn’t want to elaborate, “Whether I can enter or not isn’t for you to decide; I have my ways.”
His implication was clear, without further disclosure.
Wen Zhi pushed up the glasses on the bridge of her nose, “Oh.”
That ‘oh’ was light and airy, making Shang Jing’s throat inexplicably itchy.
However, plans never keep up with changes. As they drove toward the city, they encountered a sudden traffic control on the overpass. Some special vehicles were not allowed on the overpass, and the traffic police were directing under the scorching sun.
Vehicle by vehicle inspections caused a traffic jam, with stop-and-go progress that gradually frayed Shang Jing’s nerves. Growing impatient, he honked the horn forcefully, soon drawing the attention of a traffic police officer who came to knock on the window.
Wen Zhi overheard Shang Jing communicating with the traffic police—it seemed that an important vehicle was passing through, but due to reasons that could not be disclosed, a comprehensive traffic regulation was now in place.
Shang Jing’s car wasn’t restricted by the traffic regulation, but still had to wait in line to pass, which was very time-consuming.
Unconcerned, Wen Zhi lowered the window to get some fresh air. A bit of heat rushed in. She fanned herself with her hand and noticed that the middle of the road had been cleared under the direction of the traffic police.
At that moment, a Hongqi L5 came into Wen Zhi’s sight.
The car’s body lines were visibly luxurious. Such vehicles that signify one’s status were very rare on the streets. As Wen Zhi looked at the number plate, she immediately realized it was him.
But shielded by the one-way glass, Wen Zhi couldn’t see the person inside the car.
Bored, she rested her hand on the window sill, her gaze following the car as it drove away; however, the car came to a stop, and Wen Zhi’s hand resting on the sill suddenly clenched tightly.
How come, it stopped.
Chen Jinhai got out of the car from the front passenger seat. He scanned the surroundings, and his gaze settled accurately on Wen Zhi.
Wen Zhi was stunned.
Suddenly, the rear car window slowly lowered, and Wen Zhi saw the man’s profile.
Chen Jinhai turned his head back, leaning down to report something to the man inside the car.
The man seemed to sense Wen Zhi’s gaze and looked over at her.
Across several meters of the road, between two cars, their four eyes met. Wen Zhi did not avert her gaze, calmly meeting his stare.
Yet in the end, she couldn’t withstand that gaze, dodging the eye contact.
Shang Hexing’s lips curved into a smile, “She’s really endearing.”
Chen Jinhai did not hear clearly, so he leaned down further, asking, “What did you say, Mr. Shang?”
“Go deal with it,” Shang Hexing said, then raised the car window.
Chen Jinhai touched his nose with confusion.
“Wen Zhi, is that Chen Zhu over there?” Shang Jing also noticed Chen Jinhai, but wasn’t quite sure, considering the visual distortion.
Wen Zhi nodded, “It’s him.”
Shang Jing’s eyes sparkled, “If Chen Zhu happens to be here, then the important vehicle should be my brother’s car, right?”
However, before he could be pleased for three seconds, Shang Jing’s expression fell again, “My brother’s car usually travels inconspicuously. For the police to be clearing the way today, there must be some other VIP on his car.”
Wen Zhi pondered with implication, a VIP in the car?
So, it was just a coincidence…
Chen Jinhai was seen negotiating with the nearby traffic police captain. Soon after, the traffic police captain’s gaze turned to the Cayenne driven by Shang Jing.
Two minutes later, Chen Jinhai walked over.
“Second Young Master, Miss Wen,” Chen Jinhai addressed them with a slight nod, “Mr. Shang’s car is not convenient to take you today. I’ll arrange another car to come; you’ll follow behind this car and get on the overpass ahead of schedule.”
Shang Jing nodded, “I understand, thanks for the trouble, Chen Zhu.”
“It’s no trouble,” Chen Jinhai said, then turned his gaze to Wen Zhi.
Wen Zhi returned a faint smile, and Chen Jinhai responded with a standard one. This scene, observed by Shang Jing, caused him to knit his brows.
After Chen Jinhai left, Shang Jing suddenly asked, “Wen Zhi, is Chen Zhu interested in pursuing you?”
Wen Zhi: “…”
Shang Jing’s intuition was usually very accurate, especially recalling how Chen Jinhai had shown various concerns for Wen Zhi that morning, even asking Wen Zhi to call him Xiaochen. There were also the ‘flirting’ looks exchanged just a moment ago between Chen Jinhai and Wen Zhi. That’s why Shang Jing felt that Chen Jinhai was interested in Wen Zhi.
Seeing that Wen Zhi didn’t respond, Shang Jing took it as confirmation, adding, “Chen Zhu isn’t bad either. My brother has been promoted along the way and never replaced him; it proves he is indeed very capable and has a limitless future.”
Wen Zhi couldn’t be bothered with him, rolling up the window and leaning her face against it, exuding an attitude rejecting conversation.
Shang Jing laughed, “Feeling shy now?”
Wen Zhi: “…”
Shy? What shy!
She looked out of the car window, and the Red Flag car had already driven away.
He was probably looking at her just now, right?
But in his eyes, she was likely nothing more than a naïve child, hardly worth mentioning.
Suddenly, the fierce demeanor he had the night before flashed in her mind, sending a shiver through her body.
Wen Zhi! That was just a dream!
See him less, and then you’ll stop having those kinds of dreams.
…
Half an hour later, the car entered the city.
Shang Jing asked Wen Zhi where she would like to get off, and Wen Zhi replied, “Take me to Financial Street Shopping Center.”
Shang Jing signaled and moved into the turning lane, “Even with a hurt leg, you’re still in the mood for shopping.”
Wen Zhi turned her head to look at him and called out, “Brother Shang Jing.”
The term ‘Brother Shang Jing’ sounded sweet, but it made him feel an inexplicable itch in his throat.
He calmly responded with a hmm.
Wen Zhi asked, “What does Madam like?”
With thirty-two seconds left on the red light, Shang Jing was slightly taken aback by Wen Zhi’s question, “What are you planning to buy to please her this time?”
“I don’t know, that’s why I’m asking you,” Wen Zhi said candidly.
Shang Jing rested one hand on the steering wheel, “My mother lacks nothing. You don’t have to keep thinking about gifting her things to win her favor. Besides, what you can afford to give her now is unlikely to catch her eye.”
The honesty in his words was clear.
Shang Jing simply wanted to remind Wen Zhi not to bother unnecessarily.
However, Wen Zhi picked up on another message from what Shang Jing had just said and tentatively asked, “So, Madam didn’t like the Buddha Beads I gave her before?”
“Those Buddha Beads have already been…” Without thinking, his mouth moved ahead of his brain.
Luckily, he caught himself before he finished the sentence.
But Wen Zhi had already heard the first part, and her face darkened, “What happened to the Buddha Beads?”
The green light came on.

Shang Jing started the car, his tone unnaturally changing the subject, “We’re two kilometers from the shopping center, get ready to get off.”
Wen Zhi didn’t press further.
She understood that Shang Jing had accidentally let something slip just now, and if she continued to question him, he would say nothing and likely become annoyed.
So those Buddha Beads, Chong Wanyin had dealt with them?
After getting off at the shopping center, Wen Zhi didn’t go shopping but immediately hailed a cab to go back.
She couldn’t wait to see Chong Wanyin, only to learn that Chong Wanyin had gone out to play cards and wouldn’t be back until after dinner.
It was also at this time that Wen Zhi calmed down, realizing she couldn’t directly ask Chong Wanyin.
So the next day, Wen Zhi took the initiative to contact Shang Jing.
Shang Jing was busy and had no time for her, answering the call with a quick, “We’ll talk when I get back if there’s anything.”
Wen Zhi asked, “You still couldn’t enter Baixi Manor, could you?”
“…” Shang Jing took a breath, “Mind your own business.”
He indeed had not been able to enter.
Three days meant three days; not a bit of leeway was given to him.
Seizing the moment before he hung up, Wen Zhi offered, “I can help you get into Baixi Manor if you want.”
