SEXY MECH SYSTEM-Chapter 22: System Dynamics
The atmosphere in the room was different, different from the old, gloomy days he would sit and plan what to eat, plan how to survive another day in school, entirely different from the days he would sit and randomly fantasize possessing a crazy ability.
Today, he was strategizing for a different reason. A reason his old self never thought would come soon. Even now, it somewhat seemed like a dream.
Somewhat.
Clarity was gradually replacing the doubts and fear. Purpose was propelling him.
The broken chandelier’s light flickered once, momentarily causing eerie shadows before its dim light came back to life.
The figure sat calmly on a small sofa, leaning forward as if the backrest was a kind of disease. His arms were on his laps, elbows specifically pinned to the laps, hands pressed on his temple.
However, his thoughts were nowhere close to calm, multiple thoughts and ideas intertwining like strands of spaghetti.
Syril opened the mission tab for the umpteenth time that day, its blue, holo screen flashing before completely materializing.
[MISSIONS.]
[Mission: You don’t wanna be an ingrate before you leave, right? Reward your benefactors.]
[Instructions: Fuck your benefactors till their satisfaction.]
[Benefactor 1: Amanda Goldberg.]
[Benefactor 2: Sherry Whitmore.]
[Rewards: Skill Upgrade, Quest Points, Mana Points, New Special Skill, Stat Points.]
[Progress: Benefactor 1, Amanda Goldberg, successfully rewarded.]
[Progress: 1/2 accomplished.]
"One out of two," he whispered into the air, the words seeming louder than he spoke.
"Will you relax? You still have about two days left. Worrying too much won’t solve anything," Raja spoke, his voice almost warm, devoid of his characteristical playfulness.
"Technically, it’s only a day and few hours left," Syril corrected, his tone almost scornful.
"It’s easy for you to say when you’re just watching from inside there. Remind me, who set this mession in the first place?" He added, his voice taking a strange edge now. Something bordering the lines of exasperation and frustration.
"Oh, boy... I guess this is all on me. Okay, I accept partial fault. I should have explained things better," Raja strangely responded.
"Syril, I want you to pay attention to what I’m about to say."
"Not that I can ignore your annoying voice in my head in the first place. Now, don’t just try to worsen things," he replied, half amused, half curious.
"Always dramatic," Raja commented with a scoff. "Firstly, I am not the system, the system is not me. I am only a guide, and have no influence whatsoever on the system. I’m the system’s guide."
"Okay..." Syril noted without saying anything further. There was a catch to it.
Raja had more to say.
"That means the system’s missions, rewards, and all kinds of insane features are exclusive to you. I’m only here to help with your choices and explain things to you," Raja added.
"Whoa! Are you saying the system has its own mind?" Syril asked, fully interested now, legs stretched on the coffee table.
"Hmmm... Kinda. The system goes beyond your imagination, boy. It’s connected to everything you know and don’t. Every thing you can see and touch, the system knows. The whole of this planet and its dwellers, the system knows about it all. More the reason to be protective of the system. Again, what you have is insanely powerful."
Now, that was a bombshell.
Syril kept mute for minutes he didn’t exactly know, and Raja allowed it, allowed the silence stretch as long as Syril wanted without saying anything.
Syril had finished processing the new info at his disposal, but it begged a great question next.
"What then or who then is the system? What or who created it?"
"I’m afraid I can’t answer that, now. You’re not ready," Raja responded without hesitation. His voice seemed distant when he spoke, like he travelled metaphysically or went deep into his memories.
"The classic. The usual," Syril muttered under his breath. Of course, loud enough for Raja to hear.
"I’m still not ready to know who or what you are, too?" Syril asked another question he had been asking for a long time.
"You’ll know when time is due," Raja, again classically answered.
Syril heaved a long sigh. He was hoping that after several days of talking to the voice in his head, days of jabbing insults at the stranger in his head, days of voicing his concerns and trusting the opinion of this voice, he or maybe it was a ’it,’ will finally confide in him, tell him essentials he thought he needed to know.
He was wrong. And that hurt more than he thought it would.
"I’m sorry, Syril. In the nearest future, you’ll know why I’m doing all of these. For now, we have to focus on the present. You have to grow stronger." Raja’s voice was softer than it usually was.
Syril could only groan a "Hm," the pain from Raja’s secrecy lingering longer than he had imagined.
"Now, let’s check your stats."
The system UI (User Interface) materialized without ado, its warm, blue coloration flashing to life.

"You see it?" Raja asked, his voice sounding amused.
"Yeah..." Syril suddenly sat upright, crossing his legs as he read from the screen. "I see it. Strength, Mana Point, and Charm... They increased."
"I suppose your next question is "How?""
"You bet," Syril responded in a heartbeat.
"Now, here’s the juice. This system is great... you already know that. There are so many passive abilities the system grants to you, abilities that are not stated in the user interface. Now, when I say abilities, I’m not talking about those regular ones you see out there. These ones are special in their way. You’re following?"
"Yeah, I am."
"You remember when you got beaten so bad you looked like a dog hit by a truck and struck by lightning?"
"I..." the words hitched in his throat, his lips quivering as a gruesome memory flashed in his head. "I remember. I remember the way those bastards treated me!" The words came out rushed, edged with unrefined rage.
"Good. Now, relax. You remember how all of those injuries disappeared when you activated the system?"
"Yes! Get to the point already!"
"Hehehe! It’s not some kind of heavenly magic, or maybe it is. There’s a big secret..."
————~~~~~————~~~~~———
Hmmmm! For those who think this is a random ability and harem book, you’ll have to think again.
We are about to find out weird, insane stuffs that will rewrite the rules of this world’s abilities. Syril is about to dive into something deep. The transition is just few meters away from us.
