Seven Sins System Chapter 389. Distraction

The conversation among the kidnappers provided a distraction from the awkward intimacy. I shifted my focus to their voices.

"I'm surprised the leader asked me to pick you up sooner than I expected," one of the kidnappers remarked, glancing back through the rearview mirror.

"Especially since they are mentors at the battle academy," another chimed in, his tone tinged with curiosity.

My ears perked up at the mention of the battle academy.

The first kidnapper continued. "That combat doctor is sick and he mentioned a curse, and it's related to the lord of wrath."

It seemed that our feigned illness had caught their attention.

“A curse by the lord of wrath?” the first one echoed. He let out a scoff, shaking his head. “So the great leader hated him? I wonder what made the great leader decide to place the curse on him."

The others shrugged.

“I bet he might try to summon him in the conventional way. You know the lord of wrath doesn't like being called that way. He is different after all,” another one chimed in.

I fought the urge to roll my eyes.

“Summoning formation is for summon his army only, not the lord himself. Besides, the great lord is already in this realm,” the third one babbled.

'Hahaha,' I suppressed my internal cringe and laughter. I already knew that from reading their minds. It was a twisted logic and I didn't understand the narrative that created all this.

The cult's interpretation of the war three hundred years ago was nothing more than a twisted narrative designed to serve their own agenda.

In reality, the conflict between demons and angels was a struggle for power, plain and simple. The demons sought to dominate the mortal realm, enslaving and devouring its inhabitants for their own gain.

Meanwhile, the angels aspired to create a utopian society free from chaos and evil, their intentions rooted in a desire for peace and harmony.

But amidst the chaos and confusion, one thing remained clear: the battle for supremacy raged on, with mortals caught in the crossfire.

The mortals themselves have the combined desires of our two realms. They were like a mixed bag of desires, all jumbled up together. Some of them craved war, power, and domination over their fellow humans. They were willing to do whatever it took to climb to the top of the food chain, even if it meant trampling over everyone else in the process. Then there were the ones who just wanted peace and freedom, who dreamed of a world where they could live without fear or oppression.

But here was the kicker – some of those same folks who cowered in fear at the thought of us devils, they were also the ones who secretly wished they could be like us. They wanted that power, that raw strength that we wielded so effortlessly. They saw how we ruled over our domains, how we struck fear into the hearts of mortals, and they wanted a piece of that action for themselves.

So what did they do? They came crawling to us, pledging their allegiance in the hopes of gaining some of that devilish mojo. They'd do whatever it took to curry favor with us, whether it was sacrificing their morals, betraying their friends, or even selling their souls. Anything to get a taste of that power, to feel what it was like to look down on their fellow mortals from the top of the heap.

It was a strange dynamic, to say the least. On one hand, they feared us, reviled us, saw us as the embodiment of everything evil in the world.

But on the other hand, they couldn't help but be drawn to us, to the allure of power and dominance that we represented. It was like they were caught in a perpetual tug-of-war between their desires and their fears, never quite sure which side they should be on.

Playing around with mortals like that was always a blast. They thought they could outsmart the system by buddying up with us devils, thinking they'd somehow cheat their way out of the fiery pits of the underworld. But, how wrong they were. No matter how cozy they got with us, they were still in for a world of torment when they met their maker.

But, there was a loophole. If we bound them with a contract and turned them into one of us, well, then they might just have a chance at escaping that eternal punishment. But I wasn't about to hand out demon status like candy on Halloween. Julia was the first mortal I'd ever granted that privilege to, turning her into my very own succubus. It was a rare occurrence, something I didn't do lightly.

Before Julia, I never bothered with turning mortals into demons. No, I preferred to bless them with a taste of my power using my Blood Curse skill. It was like giving them a little boost, a kick in the right direction. And watching them grovel and kneel before me, begging for my help – it was pure entertainment.

Absurdly, they weren't exactly doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. They saw me as nothing more than a means to an end. Except for Red. She was different. She pledged her loyalty to me without any ulterior motives, simply because she wanted to repay me.

So yeah, playing with mortals could be a real hoot. But when it came down to it, they were just pawns in my game, tools to be used and discarded as I saw fit.
