Sequence Highway Survival: I Upgrade Supplies in the Apocalypse-Chapter 249: Light Rain
Contrary to what the two of them had imagined, nothing dangerous happened at all.
Apart from the ground being covered in blood-red, flesh-like wood chips, everything fell into a deathly silence after the screams vanished.
Chen Ye and Chu Che exchanged a glance, both tacitly agreeing to act as if nothing had happened.
Everyone looked over now. A hole large enough for a vehicle to pass through had appeared in the tree trunk, which was over ten meters in diameter.
The hole was densely dripping with bright red droplets of blood, quickly dyeing the surrounding area into a scene resembling a slaughterhouse, filled with the stench of blood.
However, some blood still splattered onto the vehicle surfaces.
This blood quickly corroded the paint on the car bodies, with patches of rust appearing on the surfaces.
Fortunately, Chen Ye had used his Smoke Breath simulation to block most of it earlier, so only a small portion was splashed, which didn't affect the convoy's normal travel.
After observing for over ten minutes and confirming there was no danger, the convoy began to slowly pass through the large hole.
But before passing through, the survivors thoroughly cleaned up all the blood and water on the ground.
This bloody water had strong corrosive properties;it could corrode metal and rubber alike.
If this bloody water got on the tires, they would probably be ruined in minutes.
This process took about half an hour.
Xue Nan even had the survivors spread some branches and soil on the ground.
Chen Ye continued to use his Smoke Breath to simulate a channel, keeping the constantly dripping blood outside the passageway.
The convoy carefully passed through.
The light rain continued to patter down without end.
"Squad Leader Chu, when will this rain stop?" Chen Ye picked up the walkie-talkie and asked.
This incessant rain also made Chen Ye somewhat uneasy. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Having previously experienced extreme snowfall and heavy fog, Chen Ye strongly suspected that a heavy rain event was also coming.
After the apocalypse, extreme weather occurrences had become increasingly frequent.
"Yeah, Squad Leader Chu, aren't you able to sense the weather? This rain is really annoying," the Pink-haired Girl immediately chimed in over the channel in support.
A Mystic Hermit of the Pathfinder Sequence 2 had the ability to sense weather changes within twenty-four hours.
The prolonged rain made everyone feel moldy and damp, with their clothes having a soggy, sticky feeling.
Even Superhumans didn't like this sensation.
Chu Che's helpless voice came through the walkie-talkie: "For at least the next twenty-four hours, this rain won't stop, so don't even think about it!"
"But you don't need to worry either. Currently, there won't be any major weather changes. This light rain won't have much impact on our migration."
"However, there's another piece of good news I can tell you!"
"What good news!?" came the Pink-haired Girl's listless voice over the walkie-talkie.
"Currently, we are still relatively safe. The nearest danger is fifty kilometers away and shows no signs of moving towards us!"
"So?"
"So, we can find a place to set up camp!"
Setting up camp after the apocalypse was very different from before the apocalypse.
In such a dangerous post-apocalyptic environment, the primary consideration for setting up camp was ensuring it wouldn't be detected or approached by Anomalies.
The secondary considerations were the three 'high' conditions for camping.
High ground or elevated terrain to avoid water accumulation.
Tall trees to block the wind.
High visibility to observe the surroundings.
There were other conditions to avoid as well.
But for the Superhumans within the convoy, many conditions could be ignored, as their abilities weren't just for show.
The convoy drove for about ten kilometers before, on Chu Che's suggestion, they found an open earthen slope to serve as tonight's campsite.
There were tall trees everywhere around, so wind wasn't a concern.
With the Pathfinder's assurance, there was no need to worry about any Anomalies lurking in these woods.
At least, most Anomalies couldn't escape the Pathfinder's detection.
As for water accumulation, the rain wasn't heavy. Although the ground was already somewhat muddy, it wouldn't create large pools of standing water.
Moreover, the chosen campsite was on slightly higher ground, further reducing the possibility of water accumulation.
The five vehicles simply formed a small circle.
People had already started setting up tents.
Setting up tents had become an essential skill for survivors in the apocalypse.
And people's utilization of tents had reached its peak.
Humans were always the race that could maximize the use of resources in their hands.
Most of these tents were still the ones obtained earlier from the Camel Train.
Under Xue Nan's direction, people used several ropes to link the five vehicles together, then spread out and secured several tarps over the ropes, creating a simple, large makeshift canopy in the center of the temporary camp.
Although somewhat crude, it wasn't a big problem facing this light rain.
Next was the issue of starting a fire.
Fortunately, they had stored some dry firewood earlier. Otherwise, if they had to chop down trees now for firewood, using these wet branches to start a fire would probably smoke everyone to death.
Everyone had their own tasks.
Some began inspecting the vehicles.
Some were busy starting the fire.
Others helped with preparing the ingredients.
Soon, wispy smoke from cooking fires rose from the camp.
Coupled with the flickering firelight, for a moment, this temporary camp displayed a rare touch of warmth.
The Superhumans and ordinary survivors still used two separate cooking fires.
Compared to previous meals, the convoy's food was slightly better now.
For dinner, almost everyone received a small baked potato.
There was also some porridge made from expired rice cooked until mushy, plus a few pieces of expired biscuits.
Of course, the biscuits weren't plentiful either. Some people received sugar.
Some received spicy strips, others received rice crackers.
And a small piece of fish.
No one complained.
Especially about that small baked potato.
Before the apocalypse, some people only ate potatoes in stews or shredded;they had never eaten baked potatoes.
The first time they ate potatoes was when the convoy went to Longevity Village to gather supplies.
This was the second time.
This inconspicuous delicacy from before the apocalypse made some people's eyes redden as they ate.
Chu Che looked at the white rice in his bowl, sighed softly, and said, "Everyone, I have some not-so-good news to tell you. It seems our supplies are running quite low."
A lot of the previous fish meat was traded to Divine Elephant Village.
Later, when Divine Elephant Village was attacked by wraiths, many survivors shared some of their own rations with the villagers.
The villagers who survived that disaster had almost nothing left.
This rapidly warmed the relationship between the survivors and the villagers.
So much so that when it was time to leave later, everyone was reluctant to part.
For example, Sun Xixi. Under the pretext of exchanging for Cleaning Talismans, this woman traded away a lot of her supplies again.
Naturally, this drew a round of complaints from Little Fish.
There were many people like this before the apocalypse.
Even though they themselves weren't living comfortably, they just couldn't bear to see suffering in the world.
Earning just a few thousand a month, yet when scrolling through short videos and seeing those suffering hardship, their eyes would turn red, crying with snot and tears, then wiping it all on their sleeves.
The Pink-haired Girl was one of them.
This woman used to have a bit of Chen Ye's ruthless and merciless style. Perhaps due to her increased strength, or perhaps after witnessing the tragic state of Divine Elephant Village with her own eyes, she became excessively kind this time in Divine Elephant Village.
As for Chen Ye himself...
Well, exchanging for that *Qi Devouring Technique* cost a lot. Relying on the fact that he only had to feed himself, with no family to worry about, this guy didn't have the same pressure as others when trading things.
So, the supplies he had left weren't much either.
Of course, it was enough for just himself, no problem.
In the end, the current situation was that supplies were scarce, and everyone had their own reasons.
From the apocalypse until now, humans had basically lost the ability to produce.
Therefore, even if a Sequence 9 came, they couldn't conjure supplies out of thin air.
