Secretly Mine-Chapter 161: Aimless
Chapter 161: Aimless
Numb. My entire body felt numb.
Christian’s silence cut me deeper than I expected. I finally confessed my feelings for him, but they were met with complete silence.
I can’t work here. At least not today.
I didn’t know where I was headed, but I found myself standing outside, looking around aimlessly. There was no way I could call the driver and go back home; rather, I didn’t want to go home.
The streets were full of life. Everyone was out and about, going about their business. I quietly looked around, observing the people around me.
Some people weaved through the crowded streets, running as if they were late for work, while others leisurely took a stroll as they sipped on their coffees.
Coffee. Maybe I can go visit that coffee shop again?
There was nowhere else I could go. I wasn’t meeting with Lucas until after five, and it was still early morning. Without finding anything else to do, I started walking in the direction of the coffee shop.
Since it was relatively close, I arrived there after a few minutes, but was quick to see that the line was out the door.
So many people here? It must be a good spot. I wonder if Lucas has had a chance to come back and try it..
On a normal day, I would never wait in a line this long for some coffee. However, today was very far from normal, so I queued up, standing outside.
The weather was nice and sunny, making it pleasant to be outdoors. I tried my best to enjoy it, but although the sun warmed me up a little, I still felt very numb on the inside. It must’ve been my body’s self-preservation ability so that I didn’t have a full mental breakdown.
Even thinking about Christian’s words and silence, I couldn’t feel anything. A part of me was grateful for this because it helped block the pain, but I knew that it wasn’t right. Eventually, I would have to let my emotions out and face the reality of the situation.
The line moved up, and I was finally inside the café. The uplifting scent of coffee brought me out of my thoughts as I looked up at the handwritten menu on the wall. I read through the list of fancy coffees and freshly made pastries, wondering if I should try something new today.
My eyes were still on the menu when I heard another customer order in front of me.
"Could I get an iced coffee, black, please."
Oh? Someone else is ordering my usual order.
Curiously, I turned to look at the person, wanting to see what they looked like.
Blonde hair, a cream colored suit that was made from very high-quality materials, and a bright aura...
Lucas?!
My eyes widened! I couldn’t believe that I ran into him once again. He paid for the order and walked to the end of the counter to wait for his drink to be made. I quickly walked over to the counter and ordered the same thing, paying for it quickly before walking down to surprise him.
He was looking down at his cell phone, busy replying to emails and messages, so he didn’t notice as I came up behind him. All of a sudden, I jumped up and covered his eyes from behind.
Instead of jumping back or being startled, he froze.
"Leslie?" he asked with a hint of excitement.
"How did you know it was me?" I asked, surprised. I moved my hands back down, allowing him to turn around and face me.
"I could tell by the way your hands felt. You’re the only person I know who would have such soft and delicate hands," he smiled back. "But I must say, I’m surprised to run into you here. Are you here for a morning coffee?"
My smile stiffened slightly. "Mm, not quite. I’m here to pass the time. I’m skipping work today..."
A look of concern flashed through his eyes before shining with excitement.
"If you’re just looking to pass time, how about you come with me? We can move up our painting lesson earlier, I just need to go to the company and handle one small matter first. It won’t take long," he smiled.
I quickly nodded, "Yes, that would be great. I was just thinking about how I should spend my time. Thank you."
"No need to thank me, I’ve long been wanting to show you around my company," he smiled.
The next moment, the barista called out both of our names as she placed the iced coffees on the counter. Lucas walked over to the counter and picked both of them up.
"Be careful, I wouldn’t want you to get hot coffee spilled on you again," I smiled, watching him walk the coffee over to me.
"Thank you for your concern, I’ll be sure to be careful this time," he smiled, playing along with me.
I followed him out of the café, quietly sipping on my coffee. I felt very relieved to have run into Lucas. He brought me a sense of peace, one that I desperately needed.
"The walk to my company is about twenty minutes. I’m more than willing to hail a taxi if that would be more comfortable for you," he said, glancing down at my heels.
I smiled but shook my head, "Thank you for being considerate, but I would be happy to walk. The weather today is very nice."
Lucas smiled back at me and nodded, "Very well! Let me know if you change your mind. I would hate for you to get a blister."
His words were sweet and caring. It felt like a blessing to have such an attentive friend. We continued to walk down the sidewalk in a pleasant silence while sipping our coffees.
I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth and flavorful the coffee was. My eyes drifted towards Lucas’s cup to see how he was enjoying it, only to see that his cup was already empty.
He noticed my glance and smiled, "The coffee in that café is quite good. I really enjoyed it."
I nodded, "I was just thinking that it had a good flavor. I’ve never really paid attention to it so much before."
Lucas laughed, showing his teeth. "I’m sorry, but you’re going to have a hard time drinking regular coffee now. It’s no longer going to taste right."
