Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 166: A Hug Between a Legal Couple, What’s There to Fear?
Wren Sutton subconsciously raised her hand to press against Adrian Lancaster’s chest, stopping him from getting any closer.
As for his words, they went in one ear and out the other; she didn’t take them to heart.
She believed Adrian Lancaster would show up at the trial, but not necessarily for her.
The greater the expectation, the greater the disappointment. She was no longer the naive Wren Sutton she once was.
...
After getting out of the car, the two of them went upstairs together.
Mr. and Mrs. Sutton were overjoyed. They warmly welcomed Adrian Lancaster and had prepared a table full of delicious dishes.
The four of them sat around the dining table, eating and chatting. The atmosphere was joyful and filled with the warmth of family.
Adrian Lancaster raised his glass to toast Mr. and Mrs. Sutton, showering them with one compliment after another, which made the elders bloom with delight.
After putting down his glass, he busied himself serving Wren Sutton food, peeling shrimp for her, refilling her drink, and handing her napkins...
In front of her parents, Wren Sutton played along, not refusing his gestures. She laughed and joked with Adrian Lancaster, putting on the act of a doting wife.
Watching them, Mr. and Mrs. Sutton felt deeply gratified.
Dinner ended, but before they left the table, Adrian Lancaster received a call from his father, telling him to go to the hospital with him tomorrow morning to bring his grandmother home.
Adrian Lancaster readily agreed, "I’ll go with Wren tomorrow."
After he hung up, Wren Sutton asked him, "Where are we going tomorrow?"
Adrian Lancaster explained, "Grandma is being discharged from the hospital tomorrow. We agreed a few days ago that we’d pick her up and bring her home."
Wren Sutton didn’t deny it. She had indeed agreed that day to pick up his grandmother from the hospital.
"Okay, we’ll go together tomorrow."
Mr. and Mrs. Sutton were very happy to hear that his grandmother was being discharged tomorrow and gave the couple a few words of advice.
Adrian Lancaster and Wren Sutton nodded seriously in response.
After that, Adrian Lancaster helped clear the table while Wren Sutton was in charge of washing the dishes.
In the kitchen, Mrs. Sutton spoke a few heartfelt words of praise for Adrian Lancaster. It was a classic case of a mother-in-law looking at her son-in-law and liking him more and more.
Wren Sutton smiled cooperatively and didn’t argue.
The mother and daughter chatted for a little while longer.
When Adrian Lancaster came in, Mrs. Sutton left with a cheerful laugh, leaving the kitchen to the young couple.
"What were you talking about? I could hear Mom’s happy laughter from the living room," Adrian Lancaster asked as he stood beside Wren Sutton, rolling up his sleeves.
Wren Sutton’s expression was indifferent, a complete change from moments before. "Nothing much."
Adrian Lancaster calmly took the plate from her hands.
Seeing that he wanted to help, Wren Sutton didn’t stand on ceremony. She directed him to rinse the plate clean and place it neatly on the rack.
Adrian Lancaster did as he was told.
However...
President Lancaster, who had never done housework in his life, turned the faucet on too high, and water splashed everywhere as he rinsed the plate.
Not only did he splash his own clothes, but he also got water all over Wren Sutton.
It wasn’t obvious on Adrian Lancaster’s dark shirt, but Wren Sutton wasn’t wearing an apron. On her light-colored top, the large wet patch was very conspicuous, and the outline of her underwear was even faintly visible.
Wren Sutton frowned and cried out in annoyance. She quickly turned off the faucet, then turned her head to glare at Adrian Lancaster irritably.
"Who washes dishes like that? You’re getting water everywhere! Forget it, just get out. I don’t need your help here. You’re just making a bigger mess. Honestly."
Listening to his wife’s complaints, Adrian Lancaster put down the plate. He looked a bit like a child who had done something wrong, rubbing his nose in resignation.
He could manage a company with ease, yet he couldn’t even handle a simple task like washing dishes. He felt a little embarrassed.
"Honey, it’s my first time washing dishes. I didn’t mean to make such a mess. Why don’t you teach me?"
Wren Sutton was in no mood for that.
"You can’t teach housework. You either know how or you don’t."
"..." Adrian Lancaster took a step back.
Before washing the dishes, Wren Sutton had tied her hair up in a bun, revealing the stretch of snow-white skin from her neck to her ears. It was as delicate and soft as mutton-fat jade. From up close, he could even smell the sweet, fresh scent wafting from her.
It was a dual assault on his senses of sight and smell.
Adrian Lancaster felt a stir of desire as he watched her. He had originally planned to leave the kitchen, but now he suddenly changed his mind.
He took a step forward, moving behind Wren Sutton. Planting his hands on either side of her, he trapped her between his body and the sink.
The moment Adrian Lancaster got close, Wren Sutton froze, nearly letting the bowl slip from her hand and fall into the sink.
The sink was directly in front of the kitchen window, and looking up, one could see the myriad lights of the apartments in the building opposite.
Likewise, the people in the building opposite could clearly see into their kitchen.
Wren Sutton felt exposed and extremely uncomfortable. Not wanting her parents to hear, she lowered her voice into a warning hiss, "Adrian Lancaster!"
Her voice trembled slightly, making her sound weak and utterly devoid of any intimidating force.
Adrian Lancaster let out a low chuckle. He leaned down, resting his chin lightly on Wren Sutton’s shoulder and deliberately breathing his hot breath against the back of her ear.
"I’m here, honey."
Wren Sutton gritted her teeth in anger, her face flushing slightly.
"Get off me. The people across the way can see. I’m thin-skinned. You may not mind the embarrassment, but I do."
"We’re a legally married couple giving each other a hug. What’s there to be afraid of?" Adrian Lancaster said, perfectly self-righteous.
A tense, intimate current filled the air. His firm chest was pressed tightly against Wren Sutton’s back, rubbing against her almost imperceptibly, while his dark, deep eyes stared at the base of her ear, which was pink against its whiteness.
His Adam’s apple bobbed. An irrepressible emotion surged violently within him.
The next second, Adrian Lancaster caught Wren Sutton’s ear between his lips, kissing and nibbling it tenderly.
Wren Sutton almost cried out. Her cheeks turned completely red, her breath caught in her throat, and she trembled uncontrollably in Adrian Lancaster’s arms.
The sponge fell into the water, sending out small ripples, much like the turmoil in her heart that she couldn’t quell.
"Adrian Lancaster!!!"
’This damn man. Give him an inch and he’ll take a mile.’
Adrian Lancaster was lost in his own world, his soft, lingering kisses trailing along the side of Wren Sutton’s face, from her ear to her jaw.
"Honey, turn around," he rasped, his voice especially sexy and alluring in the quiet kitchen at night.
Wren Sutton didn’t dare to move. She was extremely nervous, feeling as if her heart was about to leap out of her throat.
Her eyelashes trembled as she lifted her gaze. Besides seeing the flickering shadow of a person on a balcony across the way, she could also see Adrian Lancaster’s silhouette reflected in her own kitchen window.
He was holding her and kissing her without any reservation, completely unconcerned about whether the person opposite could see them.
"This isn’t the bedroom. The people across the way can see. I’m begging you, don’t do this."
Adrian Lancaster heard the faint, tearful plea in her voice, and his heart softened. He wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Don’t be scared. I’m not going to do anything, just give you a kiss."
"My parents are right outside."
"Don’t worry, I won’t let them hear."
Wren Sutton felt uncomfortable all over. "I don’t like this feeling. I surrender, just let me go."
A glint of cunning flashed in Adrian Lancaster’s eyes, and his deep voice sounded slowly. "Turn around and call me ’husband,’ and I’ll let you go."
With things having come to this, Wren Sutton felt she had no choice. She struggled internally for a long while before finally convincing herself.
’After all, it’s not like calling him ’husband’ once would kill me.’
She just wanted to escape the tense, intimate atmosphere and get Adrian Lancaster to leave.
Wren Sutton took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and, under Adrian Lancaster’s coaxing, slowly turned around.
"Husband..."
Her voice was very quiet, but it made Adrian Lancaster’s blood race.
"You have to keep your word. You can let me go now, right?"
As she spoke, Wren Sutton’s eyes darted to the kitchen doorway, and she pricked up her ears to listen for any sounds from outside.
"You’re being such a good girl, baby. Husband has to reward you."
As the man’s words fell, he pulled Wren Sutton into an even tighter embrace.
