Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Suspected of a Crime, Blood Stains the Bluestone Path

The Quinn Family’s rear garden possessed a unique Jiangnan-style charm, with its pavilions, waterside gazebos, covered walkways, and artful rockeries. It was shaded by lush green trees and adorned with a tapestry of vibrant flowers.

A new view unfolded with every step, making a stroll through it feel like walking through a living, moving painting.

Wren Sutton breathed in the fresh air, lost in the beautiful scenery, feeling completely at ease.

When she occasionally encountered other guests, they would exchange elegant, reserved smiles and nods.

Wren Sutton continued along the bluestone path, and as she passed a pavilion atop a rockery, a sharp, mocking voice suddenly rang out.

"Of all the guests at the Quinn Family’s home today, you’re the only one who came alone. You look so pitiful. I almost feel sorry for you."

As the words fell, Maya Marshall stepped out from behind a pavilion pillar, looking down at Wren Sutton with a haughty expression.

She concealed the surprise in her eyes, unwilling to admit that Wren Sutton’s attire today was more eye-catching than her own and that it perfectly complemented the garden scenery.

Wren Sutton had been wondering who could be so obnoxious. When she saw it was Maya Marshall, she rolled her eyes without bothering to hide it, and her good mood instantly evaporated.

’What a buzzkill. To think I’d run into her at the Quinn Family’s home, of all places.’

Wren Sutton had no intention of engaging with Maya Marshall. She turned to leave with a cold expression, as if looking at a stranger, not even deigning to waste a word on her.

Maya Marshall blocked her path. "The banquet hasn’t even started. What’s the rush?"

Wren Sutton frowned in annoyance. "Get out of my way."

Today was a happy occasion for the Quinns. She didn’t want to start a fight and ruin the joyful atmosphere of the full moon celebration, nor did she want to upset the Quinn Family—especially Old Mrs. Quinn.

Maya Marshall stood her ground, taunting, "Why didn’t Adrian come with you? It’s because he doesn’t want to publicly acknowledge you. In other words, he doesn’t see you as his wife."

Wren Sutton remained completely unfazed as she called her bluff. "Or could it be because you deleted the message on his phone?"

The color drained from Maya Marshall’s face, but she vehemently denied it. "What message? I have no idea what you’re talking about."

"Just because you claim you don’t know doesn’t mean Adrian Lancaster doesn’t."

"So what? He didn’t blame me."

Wren Sutton scoffed. "So, you do admit you deleted the message."

When Maya Marshall realized what had happened, she flew into a rage born of humiliation. "Wren Sutton, you’re despicable! You baited me!"

Wren Sutton averted her gaze and started to walk around her. "You’re the one whose actions are despicable."

Unwilling to back down, Maya Marshall blurted out, trying to provoke Wren Sutton, "We slept together that day. In my room. On my bed."

Wren Sutton froze. Her breath caught in her throat, her heart began to ache, and the color drained from her face.

She fought back a wave of nausea and the churning in her stomach, nearly throwing up.

Maya Marshall stepped closer, crossing her arms and savoring the sight of Wren Sutton’s suffering.

"Adrian said he only loves me. He was forced to marry you. As soon as Old Mrs. Quinn dies, the first thing he’ll do is marry me, and no one will be able to stop us."

Hearing this, Wren Sutton was furious—not out of jealousy, but because Maya Marshall was cursing Old Mrs. Quinn.

"You should be struck by lightning for saying something like that."

Maya Marshall was unfazed. "Four years ago, if that old witch hadn’t interfered..."

"Maya Marshall, I’m warning you. Watch your mouth."

"If you were in my shoes, you’d say far worse. Am I wrong? It was that old witch who..."

Before Maya Marshall could finish speaking—SLAP!—Wren Sutton, unable to tolerate it any longer, slapped her across the face.

This was exactly the reaction Maya Marshall had been hoping for. Everything was going according to plan.

She clutched her face, pretending to be incandescent with rage. "You dare hit me? I’ll kill you!"

Maya Marshall charged at her like a wild animal, still spewing curses.

With a grave expression, Wren Sutton instinctively shielded her stomach. She sidestepped Maya’s sharp nails and turned to leave, wanting nothing more to do with this madwoman.

"Wren Sutton, stop right there!" Maya Marshall chased after her relentlessly, a vicious light in her eyes.

Wren Sutton had sprained her ankle the day before. While she could still walk, she couldn’t move quickly, much less run.

She hurried to the top of the rockery’s steps, but just as she was about to descend, Maya Marshall caught up, grabbed her arm, and tried to push her down.

In that perilous moment, Wren Sutton desperately gripped the railing and violently shook off Maya Marshall’s hand.

During the struggle, Maya Marshall missed her footing, and her body tumbled backward uncontrollably.

A fall from such a height would have unimaginable consequences.

Instinctively, Wren Sutton reached out, trying to grab Maya.

With a terrified shriek, Maya Marshall tumbled awkwardly down the stone steps.

Blood seeped out from the hem of her dress, staining the bluestone path red.

At the sight of the pooling blood, a roar filled Wren Sutton’s ears. She stood frozen, dumbstruck. Her pupils trembled, a cold shiver wracked her body, and sheer terror gripped her heart. She was terrified that Maya Marshall might die right then and there.

’In that case, I’d be a criminal suspect.’
