People’s Hospital was only so big. Carolline Ruiz and Avery Graham were bound to run into each other there. After running into Avery, she naturally found out about Brian Hawkins not wanting any caretakers. She went to ask Henry Ruiz.
In the end, Henry did not hide it from her, but instead told her that Bryan was undergoing treatment. Carolline stopped going to the Hawkins family, as her purpose of going there was to get Bryan to agree to undergo further treatment sooner.
Since Bryan was already doing it, his refusal to have a caretaker take care of him was no longer an issue.
In order to avoid suspicions, Carolline didn’t bother to inquire about Bryan’s matters anymore and focused on her internship instead.
During this time, she did bump into the Hawkins family a few times on the street. Every time Bryan’s grandmother saw her, she would hold Carolline’s hand and chat with her for a while, then repeatedly urge her to visit their home whenever she had the time. Carolline would agree on the surface but never actually went again.
After that, she got busy with her graduation.
At the moment, Andy Aguirre and Megan Clifton were still studying at a renowned foreign hospital for another year. It is said that Megan was able to do this because of Andy’s connections, so their return to China was delayed by a year.
Later on, Emily Hill began arranging blind dates for Carolline at home. It was not really due to her grandfather’s words, but Emily was truly annoyed by her grandfather always talking about how awesome Jasmine Ruiz’s boyfriend was.
Afterward, Carolline met Bryan at the Flomoon Tea House. It was their first meeting since they separated, and she was both excited and nervous at the time.
Of course, she was more nervous than excited. Also, she still felt bewildered about how they ended up getting married by obtaining a marriage certificate.
At this moment, Bryan had already left for a long time. It was approaching noon at the entrance to the Civil Affairs Bureau, and people passing by started to view her as an oddity.
Carolline snapped out of her wandering thoughts, hailed a taxi, and returned home.
Fortunately, no one was home, so she hid the marriage certificate.
Just as she finished doing these things, Emily returned home. Seeing Carolline change her shoes at the door, she knew she was back and called out her name loudly.
This child, she reluctantly agreed to the blind date yesterday but ended up standing the other party up. She had originally planned to interrogate Carolline when she got home, but she had returned unexpectedly late last night and left extremely early this morning.
“Carolline, Carolline…”
Emily called out from outside, and Carolline knew that facing her parents was inevitable sooner or later. So without any hesitation, she walked out of her room.
“Mom, you’re back?” Carolline put on a smile. Since Bryan said they had a secret marriage, it meant that her parents couldn’t know about it.
But, how was she going to refuse if Emily arranged future blind dates for her?
“Yes. I heard from the head nurse that you had a stomach problem today. Did you eat something messy yesterday?” Although Emily blamed her daughter for standing the other party up, she was more concerned about her daughter’s health.
“It’s much better now. I’m going to work the night shift tonight.” Carolline lied. Since she didn’t go to work during the day, she had to take the initiative to work the night shift. So when she went home, she called the head nurse in advance to arrange for it.
“Oh, just go to work if you’re fine.” Emily didn’t advise her to continue resting. After all, Henry hadn’t retired yet, and many other nurses came in with her. They couldn’t let people talk about it. The night shift starts at 8 o’clock, so there was still time.
“Hmm.” Carolline casually picked up an apple from the fruit plate on the coffee table to eat. She knew the fruits placed here had been washed by Emily and could be eaten with confidence.
“You lazy girl, you should peel the apple before eating it.” Seeing this, Emily quickly snatched the partially bitten apple from Carolline’s hand, sat down, and took out a fruit knife to help her peel it while scolding her, “Don’t you know that nowadays you can’t eat apple skin, even if I wash it many times.”
Carolline was speechless. She knew, of course. Recently, the news frequently added troubles to people’s lives, such as leather shoe jellies and wax-coated apples. This growth hormone and that ripening agent made people’s lives unstable and frightening.
She couldn’t eat this, and that shouldn’t even enter her mouth. She felt that the current news had lost its original meaning. While the past news propagated kindness, honesty, and positivity, what did the present news propagate?
Of course, she didn’t deny the authenticity of those news items. She believes such things do exist, but is it necessary to broadcast them so widely, causing people to panic?
Isn’t cutting off the sources of these unscrupulous food products the fundamental solution?
“Also, why did you stand the other party up yesterday? If you didn’t want to go, you should’ve told me directly.” As Emily handed the peeled apple back to Carolline, she slightly reproached her.
“…” What did she mean by standing the other party up? She went yesterday, didn’t she? Wasn’t the person she met Bryan?
It was true; her mother should have recognized Bryan. But if that were the case, why did Emily seem completely unaware?
“Oh, yesterday, I ran into a friend I couldn’t avoid. So I couldn’t make it. Sorry, Mom, I didn’t do it on purpose. I just forgot to tell you.” Carolline felt awkward and managed to make up a story.
Her confusion was huge. What was going on? The person she was supposed to meet yesterday turned out not to be him?
But why would he be there and appear with such perfect timing?
Carolline naturally didn’t know that after Bryan’s grandfather had confirmed that there was no chance for him and Carolline, he forced Bryan to go on a blind date. Bryan was originally a filial person, so he would not disobey the elderly.
As for the two of them, it could only be said that it was fate.
“You, such a young girl, have such a bad memory. You’re working as a nurse. Don’t forget to change the water for the patients.” Emily gave her a glance and had nothing more to say.
Anyway, she didn’t meet anyone, so it was fine. Emily had already apologized to the intermediary, who replied angrily but still promised to keep an eye out for good blind date candidates for Carolline.
“Hehe…” Carolline knew the matter was over.
But if the person had actually made an appointment with her at the Flomoon Tea House, she had waited there for almost an entire evening without seeing any other person coming for a blind date, except for Bryan.
So, in fact, the person who was really stood up should be her.
However, she was not angry at all. Instead, she felt fortunate to have been stood up; otherwise, how could she have the feeling of contentment at this moment?
