Scumbag Fate System-Chapter 11: Vision
Reinhard closed his hand and opened it before a faint smile appeared.
[Integration Complete! Congratulations, Host! You are now officially a Hunter!]
He then blinked as the text quickly changed.
[Do you wish to see your stats as a Hunter?]
There was no need to even think about it, he nodded and the screen change.
The stats screen appeared and Reinhard read it once.
Then he kept walking.
[Reinhard Malvin]
[Gender: Male]
[Rank: Initiate]
[Sigil: Precognition]
[Stats:
Strength: Average
Defense: Average
Stamina: Average
Agility: Average
Magic Reserve: Low
Magic Potency: Average]
Average across the board. He turned it over without breaking stride. While it wasn’t the bests start, it simply meant he had more work to put into. And he had plenty of time with him not being a part of any classes.
Low magic reserve though. That was the one that needed attention since he wasn’t even sure that could be fixed.
[Don’t be discouraged, Host-]
"I’m not discouraged." He muttered internally. "I ’m just assessing the situation right now."
[Ahh, I see! My bad host but I just wanted to say these are just the baseline for a completely new Hunter!]
"You mean all Hunters start out like this?"
[Well, most have two or three stats they are better at but in general yes.]
He held his chin as he stared ahead. He had the outer grounds in sight now, thirty meters of open path, and the male dormitory beyond it.
It was a clean exit.
Then he heard the footsteps.
He quickly moved to the side and pressed himself into the shadow behind a tree.
Another teacher? Or a guard? No... The pattern is different.
The figure emerged from the path ahead, moving through a pool of moonlight, and Reinhard went absolutely still.
Dark blue hair with silver eyes and a beautiful face he’d only seen from a distance until now. In memory projections, in the gallery at the awakening ceremony, and across a crowded courtyard eleven minutes outside Rika’s door.
Yor.
He watched her, and the spy in him started analyzing her without realizing it. She was moving wrong like she was struggling and a bit tired. She had no injuries, but he noted her arms trembled faintly at her sides.
And her expression was blank.
It wasn’t that indifferent look but the face of someone who was drained.
What happened to you tonight?
He was running through possible options. Could a Void distortion happen in the night, and she took care of it? A training incident? Something worse?
But then she began swaying before closing her eyes and falling.
He moved swiftly.
Quickly crossing the distance and his hands caught her before the ground did. Her weight settled against him, slight and unexpectedly cold through the fabric of her uniform.
He registered all of that in the half-second before-
The reality shifted.
Without warning, the moonlit grounds simply ceased and something else replaced them.
He saw a familiar courtyard, but it was daytime with other female students walking around.
He wasn’t there was something he easily gasped. It was like he was a third party watching everything. His silver eyes glanced around before it paused when it landed, on Yor.
Sitting at the courtyard’s center with both hands pressed against her temples, silver eyes squeezed shut. But something wrong was radiating off her in waves that Reinhard could somehow feel.
The students around her kept walking as if they didn’t notice.
Her silver eyes suddenly snapped open.
A black-white light shined before it swept out.
And Yor began screaming but there was no sound, only the ground below beginning to crack and shake. The air around her also started to gain cracks before spreading out as well.
These led to black fractures spreading rapidly through supposedly empty space like reality itself is actively shattering around them.
One girl who was walking past had paused before her mouth open up and her eyes turned blank. She glanced at Yor before walking towards her before pausing and then slumping to the ground.
Then another student before six more joined. Then dozens, all of them stopping mid-sentence mid-movement mid-breath. Their eyes emptying one by one across the fractured courtyard as Yor’s silent scream tore everything around her into pieces.
She doesn’t even know she’s doing it.
But there another thing, her expression. It wasn’t displaying anger, or grief. But acceptance.
For what?
Then everything paused before breaking like glass was being broken.
He’d released her and stepped two steps backwards. He was gasping as he noticed as his vision seemed to display the dormitory grounds and the fractured courtyard that wasn’t there anymore.
Get it together.
Reinhard ran his hands down his face, forcing himself to calm down. Then once everything returned to normal and then once he looked at Yor.
He saw her head whipped around before her silver eyes met him directly and there was only confusion. Which shifted into shock and she quickly rushed away, not giving him a chance to react.
"Wait-" Reinhard called after her.
But she was already gone, vanished completely into the darkness with speed that surpassed his by leagues. He stood there alone in the empty courtyard with his mind racing.
What was that horrifying vision?
But then paused when he heard approaching footsteps. And noticed with faint surprise that his hearing got vastly better. He quickly pinpointed it was multiple ones and figured that this was their route.
Damn it.
Reinhard ran without hesitation.
He continued through the area and left the courtyard before the guards could arrive to ask him questions.
After leaving the girls dorm, he headed over to male area, keeping a nice pace to not draw suspicion. And soon he made it back with seconds to spare before it was curfew time.
...
Above him, the ceiling showed nothing special. Long minutes passed while he looked, yet his thoughts wandered elsewhere.
The vision kept replaying as he kept returning to it and looking over it. He couldn’t even begin to understand why fracture appeared, why the students began changing and how Yor was at the center.
"System," he said into his pillow. "What was that? The vision I saw when I touched Yor?"
The familiar blue screen appeared.
[That’s another function, host! With the Fate System, you can see into the future of a Main Fate. It shows hints of the important events when they’re close to happening.]
Reinhard rolled onto his back and stared at the ceiling. "And the cause of that was..."
[It’s Yor.]
He blinked before pushing himself up and staring at the blue screen. He furrowed his brows before tilting his head and with a chuckle, he asked. "That’s what you meant if nothing is done?"
[That’s only a little bit. Once she passes a point of no return, then it will affect the rest of the continent.]
A groan escaped his throat.
"So, I know what the result is but not the cause?" Reinhard brought both hands to his face and pressed his palms against his eyes.
[Don’t worry, host! I believe you can capture her before everything gets ruined!]
His lips twitched yet it did make him feel good.
"Does this happen with Minor Fates too? The visions?"
[They do but with a different perspective. It usually shows visions involving you and not anyone else.]
Reinhard crossed his arms over his chest and inwardly chuckled. That was unexpected but it made sense in a strange way since Minor Fate’s was related mostly to him.
"She doesn’t know she does it."
[...She doesn’t know how danger it can be.]
"And that vision will happen in two weeks..."
[Yes. But her condition hasn’t been good lately. So, there is a high chance it will happened earlier.]
"...What?"
[Sorry, host but the two-week window may not hold if her control over the void continues to diminished.]
Reinhard was quiet for a moment.
Two weeks had already felt narrow but now it was even less than that. It really means he had to get near, befriend, and seduce Yor all within this limited time frame.
[If this incident happens, getting close to her may become impossible.]
A long breath slipped out past his nostrils.
Reinhard fell silent before muttering. "Well... Maybe that isn’t bad."
[Huh?]
"This might be helpful in getting close to her."
[Host, I don’t understand-]
"Don’t worry, you will see. A beautiful plan just formed in mind." Reinhard smirks.
He closed his eyes.
First, he thought, I need to stop her from being able to run away.
