SCP Corporation: Contain Bonfire-Chapter 34 - Megalophobia_1
Chapter 34: Chapter 34 Megalophobia_1
Chapter 34 -34 Megalophobia_1
“Time is almost up, I should call the three employees over for a meeting to discuss tomorrow’s matters,”
Colin put away the badge that had been made into a “token” and then looked at the three personal resumes, feeling somewhat speechless.
Compared to him, these three seemed to have a much more comfortable start.
For one, they were granted “G Level Authority (Temporary Special Provision)” by Miss Bunny, although the authority only extended to a 10-liter Storage Room.
What’s more outrageous is that they were endowed with a trait—”Reset.”
Simplistically put, it is a special ability akin to resurrection.
In order to ensure they could successfully convene in front of the Bonfire, these people had three “Reset” opportunities in the first week.
Only after using up all three “resurrection” chances and dying again would they truly die.
“Why is that ability given to them and not also fashioned for me?”
Colin felt somewhat aggrieved.
He started with just three pieces of paper, all of which were truncated; if it were not for landing on “Luck,” it might be another person sitting here now.
Even if he wasn’t given it at the start, it would be fine to compensate him now.
Unfortunately, he didn’t know how to contact Lady Bunny and could only wait for her to call on him unilaterally.
“But, come to think of it, Lady Bunny’s clearance seems higher than I’d imagined. What she’s shown, offices and the like, those folks on the forums haven’t even heard of, and as for methods like ‘resurrection,’ it’s the same—they seem likely to be higher than the C Level clearance I’d imagined.”
Over the past two days, Colin also tried to gather information about Lady Bunny, to no avail; her every detail was shrouded in mystery.
In his mind, some associations formed faintly…
But before these associations could take concrete shape, they vanished.
Colin felt as if he had momentarily forgotten something, but after careful thought, it seemed as though nothing was missing.
Shaking his head, he clutched the resumes in his hand, half-closing his eyes in contemplation, and soon felt three distinct “threads” emerge in his mind.
His thoughts extended like hands, gently tugging on these three “threads.”
…
Near Black Forest Park, in a hospital’s intensive care unit, Lin Yilan lay on the bed with a breathing tube, dressed in blue and white striped hospital garb.
Her complexion was deathly pale, her body extremely emaciated, skin stretched tight over bone, with scant hair left on her head and only a few teeth remaining. Her arms and limbs were nearly devoid of muscle.
Not even thirty, and her life was already on its last legs.
Even her once-bright eyes had dulled, clouded over from repeated chemotherapy and surgeries.
Her once-decent looks had turned gollum-like, akin to those from The Lord of the Rings.
Cancer cells had already spread throughout her body, making each moment of existence an immense agony.
Though her face bore little expression, her body shuddered with immense internal pain.
At this point, pain medication was almost ineffective for her.
Her current endurance was solely because she wished to die in her fight against the sickness, not yield to it.
In her mind, this period would not be very long, three to six months more and everything would return to tranquility, eternal tranquility.
Until the day before, when a mysterious letter suddenly appeared beside her—
[Bonfire Company Employment Invitation]
Beep beep beep~
The alarm on her phone vibrated beside her ear, waking her from her frail slumber.
She opened her eyes; everything was unchanged, and the invitation mentioned in the letter had not appeared.
“It seems, indeed, that I was hallucinating, what was I expecting,”
Lin Yilan gave a difficult self-mocking smile.
How could she believe in such unscientific things?
What completing tasks can get rewards, obtain the chance to survive…
Now that he was awake, he thought it did seem a bit…
“Hmm?!”
Lin Yilan suddenly startled, as a surge of grey fog came rolling in from all directions and swallowed her up in an instant.
Then, tendrils of deep red light fell from the sky.
A massive fireball, like the break of dawn, banished all that was blurred and shadowy.
Whew…
She held her breath, lifting her head in shock to look at the gargantuan fireball above her that was spewing flames, her heart shaking violently.
At that moment, she felt a suffocation as though she had megalophobia because of looking directly at the sun from too close.
“My body…”
Lin Yilan touched herself and was horrified to find the pain inside her was gone, her body restored as before, as if it was never ill.
“Thump thump~”
The tapping sound on the desk brought her back, and then she noticed that she was sitting on a stone chair at that moment.
The one who tapped the desk was a man sitting at the end of an oval table, on a high-backed chair against the backdrop of the sun.

His body seemed covered in a layer of gunpowder smoke, indistinct and full of mystery.
Lin Yilan took a deep breath and deeply felt that the individual before her was no ordinary human.
A powerful aura was emanating from the person behind the curtain of smoke.
When she vaguely felt his gaze, almost tangible, casting over her from behind the smoke, Lin Yilan couldn’t help but feel a surge of fear and awe, and she modestly lowered her head, not daring to meet his eyes.
“Hello, I am Tang Ken. Are you the Agent of the Bonfire mentioned in the invitation? What do we need to do?” a voice came from beside her.
Lin Yilan followed the sound and only then did she notice that, aside from herself, there were two other people sitting at the inferior seats.
One seemed to be a lively young man in his twenties with slightly dark skin, while the other seemed to have the composed temperament of a middle-aged person in his forties or fifties.
However, for some reason, Lin Yilan felt she could see them, but she was unable to form a concrete memory of their faces in her mind.
It was a bit weird…
…
Agent of the Bonfire? Is that how Miss Bunny described me in the invitations she sent to them? Colin thought, then nodded his head.
Leaning against the chair, he mulled over the information about these individuals and then spoke, “Your task is very simple. Find a place to sleep by twelve o’clock tomorrow, wait for the descent, and then cooperate with the company’s work on the other side. Specific details will be provided after you enter.”
As he spoke, the details of the three individuals’ clearance levels flashed through their minds, and they immediately understood that their first task was to go to the “Bonfire Sacrificial Site” to register.
Then there was nothing else to do, it mainly depended on what the team leader would require at the time.
At this moment, Colin saw Lin Yilan slightly raise her hand. After a slight gesture, she spoke up:
“Sir Bonfire Agent, may I ask you, upon arriving in that world, will I be in this current body from the gathering or in my original form from reality?”
If it was her real form, no matter what she did, there was no chance.
Right now, she couldn’t even walk after getting out of bed.
The other two held their breath as well; they were unaware of Lin Yilan’s situation but knew about their own, which was equally grim.
“Neither, there will be another body for you to use,” Colin answered simply.
Upon hearing this, they all breathed a sigh of relief. Although they did not know what the other body would be like, it was good enough not to be in their own bodies.
Tang Ken, who appeared composed and reserved to others, raised his hand and, after being acknowledged, asked:
“Mr. Agent, may I inquire about the environment there? I would like to know what kind of items I should bring that would be appropriate. Are there any restrictions on the items we can carry?”
As he finished speaking, the other two adjusted their seating postures and listened attentively, as this was also of concern to them.
