Saving The Villainous Monster From The Male Lead-Chapter 36 - 35: The Land Of Koa
The sun on the barren land rose brightly over Hael’s head as he pushed the cart filled with bricks and cement to the construction site minutes away from where he was. He looked around, inspecting the sight to find something unusual.
His eyes fell on a mercenary, patrolling down the area, when their gaze met they both nodded, as if passing a message to each other.
"This way." The mercenary’s partner called him out, awakening his senses to be careful.
Azriel followed his fellow comrade into the castle of the lord, who ruled these lands filled with poverty and crimes.
The castle he entered showed a stark contrast to the outside atmosphere. There were golds and gems embedded on the walls. Tiles made of silk gold, so clean that one could see their reflection in them.
All of this money is stolen from the subjects of Seraphin. Black money. Stolen by murdering people, robbing them, selling women and children. Everyone that live in this castle are cruel monster, deprived of any ounce of humanity in them
"You should be more focused, Allen." Kar, Azriel’s partner said. Allen was his fake name here. "If found, you shall be killed."
"Couldn’t see them killing an innocent child over a piece of bread, already rotten." He uttered, rage surging in his veins as he remembered that scene.
Kar patted his wide shoulders that reached his head. "Calm down, we are in the castle now." He said.
Azriel nodded, after taking a deep breath to calm his dreadful aura. They headed towards the kitchen, from where they had to follow the maid, carrying the food to the owner of the castle, Koa.
A chef came forward with his dishes and placed it on the trolly meant to be pushed by the maid. After cleanly decorating the trolley, he shared a glance with Azriel. They nodded at each other and then parted ways.
The evening fell quickly and the construction work came to an end. Hael splashed cold water on his face from the fresh river moving along the construction area. Soon the river will lose its purity, after the construction is complete. This factory that is being built has an illegal sewage system that dumps waste in the river.
Hael was disgusted by this carelessness of Koa. For money he is ready to kill millions.
"The food is ready, Harry." A worker announced at the river bank, where many others were washing their hands and face, preparing to have their meal.
The workers get a meal once a day and a full glass of milk at night. One silver coin at the end of every week, and a home for their family. In this town, the job of the worker was most high paying, for any commoner living outside the castle. Yet it was the least of how much a construction worker should actually get paid according to the laws of the country.
This town is lawless.
After completing his dinner, Hael headed to sleep in his tent, the promised house prepared for the worker and their family. It only had a simple waterproof cloth hanging on a wooden stick. Hael scoffed in disgust, then layed on the bare ground, laughing at the false promises of Koa.
Eventually, when the hustle and bustle around his tent died, he woke up again and left his tent with a small torch in his hand.
In the half constructed building was the meeting spot of these three white knights of Seraphine.
Hael reached the third floor, where he found his comrades waiting to share the information they had dug for the last whole month.
"Captain." They said with a salute, on the arrival of Hael.
"Generals!" Hael saluted back. "What’s the information?" He asked.
"The information was correct, Captain. Koa is working with the rebel army and the rebel army consists of a few nobles, as well." Azriel relayed his side of information.
"Nobles?" Hael had speculated but was still surprised to hear that nobles were included in the rebel army.
"Yes, Captain. I had heard the name Thornberry, sir." Laurent, the one working as chef in disguise, said.
"From whom?" Hael wanted to clear all his speculations.
"A messenger, sir. He had arrived to deliver a letter to Koa. I had gone to serve dinner to them. The messenger said Thornberry by mistake."
"That could be a trap, a distraction." Hael suspected this simple and easy reveal of such an important name.
"Possible." Azriel agreed with his captain.
"The plan is unchanged, generals. We will attack at the end of next month, find me a way in, Laurent, Azriel." Hael commanded, then turned to leave, but was interrupted halfway by Azriel.
"Captain, Kar-" Before he could finish, Hael raised his hand in the air, his palm straight, asking him to shut up.
"We have had this discussion before, Azriel." He turned to look at the disappointed eyes of his comrade. "Kar is a third person. We cannot trust him." His eyes softened as he reassured him. "I understand you like him. Rest in ease, we will save every good human in this town."
Without giving Azriel a chance to argue with his captain, Hael left the construction building, half guilty, half disappointed by how easily, Azriels feelings had made him waver. A bond so deep in a month felt suspicious to Hael and he only wished he was wrong.
