Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 614: Vultures
Bager laughed angrily while raking his fingers through his hair. Never in his life had he wanted to strangle someone so bad. "It’s about the project. There is something urgent," said Bager the annoyance in his eyes apparent.
Qie Xieling leaned forward his arms crossed and a smirk playing on his lips. "What’s so urgent about your project that you need to speak with him?" he asked, his tone dripping with feigned innocence.
Bager shuffled his feet, his gaze darting away before settling on Qie Xieling. "It’s confidential," he said, a little too quickly. "Besides, you won’t understand if I tell you about it. I need to speak to him."
"Confidential, huh?" Qie Xieling’s smile widened, but his eyes were cold. "Funny, I thought he handed everything about the project over and quit."
Bager gritted his teeth his eyes flashing with a cold light. Yes, Luo Muchen quit which was incredibly puzzling. He especially quit when they had reached a breakthrough. His supervisor asked if he could continue participating in the project back home but Luo Muchen stubbornly refused at the time and just up and left before their professor could talk him out of it.
"It’s a... new development and we need his input," Bager stammered, his cheeks flushing. There were no new developments nor was it urgent. He just wanted to see him and from the looks of it, Qie Xieling could see right through him.
Qie Xieling chuckled darkly as he got up. "Well, I am afraid Muchen is quite busy at the moment. But I’ll be sure to let him know you stopped by."
Bager’s eyes flared with a mix of frustration and something else Qie Xieling couldn’t quite place. "Come on, I travelled all this way. What are you so afraid of?" he insisted.
Qie Xieling shook his head, the evil grin never leaving his face as he sauntered and walked away. Bo Ailun followed after him making sure to glare at the three people not to follow. Out of desperation, Bager lunged forward and grabbed Qie Xieling’s arm.
Qie Xieling’s brows furrowed glancing at those hands that were about to touch him. Unable to dodge in time he smacked his hands away startling everyone around them. If a random passerby had seen this scene they might think Qie Xieling was bullying this young man.
"You... you hit me," exclaimed Bager his hands already red. Qie Xieling didn’t use a lot of force but Bager’s skin easily bruised.
Qie Xieling was on the verge of losing his temper and Bo Ailun could sense the turbulence in the air thus he stepped in between them while trying to calm things down.
"Let’s not make it more serious than it actually is. You were going to touch him. Lin Lin doesn’t like being touched," he said but how could Bager be civil about this? He had seen an opportunity to twist Qie Xieling’s hand.
Just as the argument between them was reaching an impasse the sudden growl of a hypersports car engine cut through the tension. All heads snapped towards the sound, their quarrel momentarily forgotten.
Luo Muchen emerged from the driver’s side, his eyes scanning the scene before landing on Qie Xieling. Bi Yu who had been recording this showdown just to humiliate Qie Xieling instantly turned off the camera of her cell phone and rushed over calling out, "Chen-ge!"
Luo Muchen’s jaw was set, a hard line that matched the icy glint in his eyes as he walked over with a purposeful stride. His gaze fixed ahead, deliberately avoiding the figure of Bi Yu who was fluttering around him like an unwelcome moth to a flame.
There was a tension in his shoulders, a clear indication of the effort it took to keep his composure. As he drew closer to Qie Xieling, his expression softened ever so slightly, the frost melting at the edges. "Lin Lin, let’s go," he said, his voice firm yet tinged with urgency.
Bager hurriedly called out to him but he was suddenly met by a hostile deadly stare that he had never seen before. Luo Muchen was a quiet person but he was always so nice. If one asked for help, no matter how busy he was he would help that person with no second thought. He would never show a look of annoyance and he was a very nice person. But now he was showing a side of him that Bager had never seen before. He wanted to say something else but his voice was stuck in his throat refusing to come out.
Qie Xieling, still seething with anger, tried to shrug off Luo Muchen’s hand. "I’m not going anywhere with you," he spat out, his emotions raw. He was about to walk past him but Luo Muchen wasn’t having any of it.
In one swift motion, he hoisted Qie Xieling over his shoulder, as if he weighed nothing.
"Ahhh Luo Muchen... put me down," he said but Luo Muchen didn’t listen. He carried him towards the car without a word. Bager watched, his mouth agape, as Luo Muchen carried Qie Xieling to the car like a knight claiming victory. Luo Mechen helped Qie Xieling into the car and closed the door before striding to the other driver’s side.
The door slammed shut, and with a roar, the car sped off, leaving nothing but a cloud of dust and a stunned silence in its wake.
"Wha... what just happened?" asked the student council president a little confused with this development.
Bo Ailun finally shifted his gaze away from the sportscar speeding away wondering if it was a coincidence that these two had the same car.
He suddenly raised his head and was met by intense burning gazes from both Bi Yu and Bager. ’Shit,’ he swore inwardly. These two were staring at him like he was a pig on the chopping block. He realised at that moment that he also had Luo Muchen’s number. Wouldn’t he become their next target?
"I am going to go. I am very busy," he said before power walking towards the parking bay nearby where he had left his motorcycle.
"Bo Bo, wait," called out Bi Yu and Bo Ailun started to run. He quickly hopped onto his motorcycle before she could catch up and rode off while cursing his good brother for leaving him behind with these vultures.
