Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 600: How to start a war.
The glass door slid open and a certain person who was done helping in the kitchen was met with this scene.
Luo Muchen stood, leaning against the frame. His eyes were glued on Qie Xieling’s back watching with fascination. He rarely saw Qie Xieling so carefree and unburdened. He loved all versions of him but this version of him always sent his heart in overdrive. It was this version that drew his attention in preschool and made him want to monopolise Qie Xieling but Qie Xieling had to be willing. Now that he was his, Luo Muchen would never let him go.
Qie Xieling had no idea that his man was watching him. His laughter bubbled up again as he dipped low, his fingers brushing the wooden planks. Wen Danzhe followed suit, his laughter a deep bass note. They swirled together their eyes twinkling with youthful exuberance.
When the song ended, Qie Xieling straightened, breathless. Wen Danzhe draped his arm around him while saying, "You still got it, kid. We should go out together soon."
Wen Qinxi waved his hands rejecting this idea. "The last time you went out with him he came not even recognising his own father. He blacked out and I had to take care of him the next day because he was hungover."
"Okay okay stop complaining. I won’t take him out with me," he said but he then whispered to Qie Xieling, "Next weekend."
Wen Qinxi, "..."
"I heard that," he said and Wen Danzhe’s lips twitched.
"You heard shit. What? Do you have super hearing now?" he said and Wen Qinxi curled his fingers into fist threatening. Wen Danzhe backed off. He let go of his nephew creating a safe distance from his brother.
"It’s not your job to take care of him anymore. The one who should be complaining here should be Chen Chen," he said before turning to Luo Muchen and asking, "Right?"
Luo Muchen was too mesmerised to pay attention to what they were saying. "Ye-yes," he said his voice low as he met Qie Xieling’s gaze. Qie Xieling smiled at him bewitching to the point that his IQ dropped.
But then, he suddenly felt a chill like an ice dragon had been summoned and appeared in his vicinity. Qie Ranzhe’s deadly glare bore into Luo Muchen almost tearing his soul to shreds. The air turned icy as Qie Ranzhe’s expression darkened.
The spell finally broke and Luo Muchen turned his head only for his spine to tremble. His IQ went back online and he averted his gaze. Damn, he had no idea what he agreed to.
Wen Danzhe was already in a chokehold tussling with his brother by the poolside. He broke free and ran towards the lawn but Wen Qinxi was trailing behind him.
Qie Xieling stood beside Luo Muchen and bumped their shoulders together before saying, "I hope you don’t think we are crazy. Fine, we are... I just hope you don’t mind."
Luo Muchen didn’t even have the opportunity to reply because Qie Ranzhe aggressively flipped the pork chop drawing their attention.
"What are you all still doing outside? Come in and eat," said Grandma Wen glaring at her two sons behaving so unruly. Wen Qinxi who was pulling Wen Danzhe’s hair froze. The two instantly became well-behaved.
"How old are you two? Tsk, these two will kill me," she said while walking back into the house. Soon the seven of them were settling down to eat. Qie Xieling naturally chose to sit down next to Luo Muchen but his nana displaced him with no hesitation.
"Go sit there," she said referring to the seat next to Qie Ranzhe. Qie Xieling grumbled as he got up and sat next to his father.
"Stop wearing a long face," said Qie Ranzhe while placing vegetables on his dinner plate. Qie Xieling smiled slightly as he took a bite.
They didn’t have the rule of not talking at the dinner table. In fact, they used this time to catch up and find out what shenanigans everyone was up to.
Qie Xieling thought that Luo Muchen would feel left out but it turned out he was worried about nothing. He fit in perfectly no matter what they were discussing. If he hadn’t known better he might have thought Luo Muchen had studied everyone’s preferences in advance.
Because of that Qie Xieling could enjoy his meal with no worries. He smiled at Luo Muchen from across the table and Luo Muchen smiled back at him while listening to Nana Qie talk about this spa they were inviting him to.
His two dads were bustling around the table, their movements synchronized like a well-practised dance. They placed steaming dishes of stir-fried bok choy, fragrant jasmine rice and grilled meat in front of each family member. The clinking of chopsticks against porcelain filled the room as they chattered away.
This harmonious atmosphere lasted for a very long time until someone opened his mouth and that someone was Qie Xieling.
His voice broke the serene ambience when he said, "Daddy, can you pass me a meat skewer?"
In his defence, he was absentminded and didn’t think it through. As if on cue, both his father and Luo Muchen responded simultaneously, their voices syncing in an eerie harmony that sent a chill down Qie Xieling’s spine. His eyes widened dumbfounded. He was asking his father but who would have thought Luo Muchen would respond?
Everyone, "..."
The room fell into a sudden hush, the clinking of cutlery halting abruptly. Qie Ranzhe’s expression darkened, his eyes narrowing as he shot a sharp glance at Luo Muchen, who met his gaze with a mixture of defiance and unease.
Wen Danzhe burst out laughing and because he had a mouthful of rice in his mouth he almost choked. His face turned red while coughing and his mother passed him a glass of water while patting his back.
The room was in chaos but Qie Xieling’s focus was on the gunpowder crackling in the air. There was a silent storm brewing between the two men and none of them could stop it.
Qie Xieling’s heart raced as he watched the silent exchange between his father and Luo Muchen, unsure of what would come next in this unexpected confrontation that had unfolded at the dinner table.
