Chapter 186: Baby fever

Qie Xieling’s brow arched hearing a piece of gossip. He was about to ask her how she knew when a dragon landed on his shoulder.

Jolie, "..."

She honestly thought Qie Ranzhe was possessive but Luo Muchen or in this case King Luo was on a whole new level.

She rolled her eyes and walked ahead seeing this. Qie Xieling gently rubbed the small dragon’s face with his finger and the little dragon complied. He was rubbing against Qie Xieling’s finger like he truly enjoyed the feeling.

All this fell in Yunning’s eyes and from her expression, she didn’t seem so impressed. Boran tapped her shoulder and asked, "Since when did they start getting along?"

Yunning’s lips twitched in displeasure. She also wanted to know when they got along so well. "You should go ask him," she said and Boran’s eyes widened in surprise. He wanted to say aren’t you the fiancee but he restrained himself. He decided to stay out of it.

When they emerged from the forest they were met by hordes of people heading towards the palace beyond the clouds. Princess Yana’s army was sweeping through the five realms and forcing people to comply.

If one dared to resist, they would kill that person reducing them to dust. Even when they didn’t resist the monks would order some of them to be executed as a way to instill fear in them. This was to serve as an example to the others

A seemingly endless procession of haggard and desperate people trudged along the winding road, their weary faces etched with fear and exhaustion. The once vibrant capital city was now a distant memory, replaced with a haunting scene as hordes of refugees sought refuge and salvation at the doorstep of the emperor’s palace at the highest plane of Xedian.

Queen Yana, driven by her insatiable hunger for power, had usurped the throne and unleashed her merciless monks and mighty army to crush any opposition. They hunted down those who dared to defy her rule. The people who could run had fled, their only hope being the vanished emperor’s palace, rumoured to have the power to protect and save them.

As Qie Xieling took in the heartbreaking scene, his eyes were drawn to a little girl. Her cheeks were stained with tears, her clothes tattered, and her body covered in ugly bruises. He couldn’t bear to witness her suffering, and his heart swelled with compassion. Without hesitation, he approached her, holding out a small parcel of food.

"Are you hungry, little one?" Qie Xieling asked, his voice filled with both concern and warmth.

The girl, her eyes filled with a mix of desperation and hope, nodded in response, a glimmer of surprise in her gaze. She took the offering from Qie Xieling, clutching it tightly as if it were the last morsel of hope in this world of darkness.

King Luo scanned the girl’s injuries attentively. His dragon head emanated a soothing glow as she summoned her healing powers. He chanted something channelling his magic to mend what was broken.

Soft hues of light danced across the girl’s body, and the pain seemed to ebb away. Her bruises faded, and her tattered clothes mended themselves as if life itself was being restored within her. A glimmer of gratitude shone in the little girl’s eyes as she looked up at them, her trust unyielding.

Qie Xeiling’s heart swelled with a combination of sorrow for the injustices they faced and determination to fight for what was right. He couldn’t save everyone, but for this little girl, he had made a difference. Eagerly, he bent down to meet her gaze.

"You’re safe now," he reassured her, his voice filled with strength. "We won’t let Queen Yana’s tyranny endure. We’ll find a way to restore justice, for you and for all those who suffered."

At that moment her eyes brightened. She had lost her parents in the conflict. She still had her aunt but she wanted someone to pay for the loss of her parents. Now that this big brother has said it she was relieved.

Qie Xieling watched her walk away with her aunt and suddenly felt a great sense of responsibility. It wasn’t his fault that Yana took over this game world and caused all of this but he couldn’t help but want to be responsible.

"Don’t be getting baby fever now. You are a baby as well," said Jolie while walking past him and Qie Xieling’s eyes widened.

"What do you mean?" he yelled after her and she turned around walking in reverse while saying,

"Your dad got pregnant in the game and tada... here you are."

Qie Xieling, "..."

He was really glad that King Luo had flown up in the sky otherwise he would have heard that.

He had heard the story of how he came to be but he just didn’t think Jolie would bring that up. He wasn’t ready to be a daddy even though he thought babies were cute.

"That was nice of you. Are you trying to atone?" said Boran almost giving Qie Xieling a heart attack. He didn’t expect someone would spring up on him out of nowhere. When he saw it was Boran he hooked his arm around him and said,

"Here I thought you didn’t care for me. Were you worried that my soul would perish from my misdeeds? You are indeed a true friend."

Boran was at a loss. Even he didn’t know why he was speaking to him in the first place. He was about to push him away when he felt a sharp gaze piercing through his body. He looked around wondering where that malicious energy was coming from. He didn’t need to look long because he saw the small dragon in the air glaring at him.

Boran, "..."

He didn’t understand why King Luo was glaring at him like that. Qie Xieling wasn’t aware of what he was doing as well because he was smacking Boran’s chest while calling out,

"Husband, you still care for me? You are so sweet."

Qie Xieling was making fun of Boran. In a way he was trying to disgust him but who would have thought someone he kissed last night wouldn’t be too pleased with their interaction?

Qie Xieling was completely unaware that he had made someone very upset and Jolie didn’t dare remind him either. She was just watching the show with great enthusiasm.

When they reached the top of the mountain they found a group of people giving offerings at the stone steps of the abandoned lower palace. The upper palace was the one they had to go to and to get there one had to fly up.
