Sacred Souls: Genesis-Chapter 148 - 147: The Handyman (Third Update)
Chapter 148: Chapter 147: The Handyman (Third Update)
Lyla brought Jiang Qiao and Hai Lan into the ship’s cabin, where the cries of various cattle, ducks, and chickens echoed. They obviously didn’t adapt well to the environment on board.

There was also a medical room inside the cabin, and when Jiang Qiao entered, he could smell an indescribable scent of blood.
This led Jiang Qiao to block out his sense of smell immediately.
The situation inside the medical room was somewhat ghastly; stepping on the floor, Jiang Qiao could feel the sticky traces of blood, and there were six beds within.
Each bed bore a patient, four men and two women, all appearing young in age, save for one elf.
...
Their wounds were severe and horrific, with crystallized synapses protruding from their flesh, accompanied by fresh blood dripping onto the bedding, staining the pillows and sheets red.
This sight instinctively made Jiang Qiao feel uncomfortable, but his strong self-control helped him manage his nausea.
“Hai Lan, can they be saved?”
Jiang Qiao still hadn’t figured out what exactly the crystals were; all he could be sure of was that they were not composed of energy that should exist in this world.
“I can’t save them,” Hai Lan said, approaching the youngest-looking female, who appeared to be only fifteen or sixteen. She touched a small bump of crystal on the girl’s forehead and said, “These crystals have already fused with their souls and lives. The crystals have become their very beings; the flesh, on the other hand, is an unnecessary part.”
“Is there no other way?” Lyla’s voice was filled with unrest and reluctance.
“Wait, I say… One of these isn’t a relative or friend of yours, right? Someone crucial to your main quest?”
Jiang Qiao felt that Lyla’s behavior didn’t seem like that toward six strangers.
“…” Lyla’s gaze shifted to the girl Hai Lan had just touched.
“Let me guess, she’s your sister?” Jiang Qiao made his first guess. Lyla didn’t respond, and after pondering for a while, Jiang Qiao ventured another guess, “She wouldn’t happen to be the princess of the Radiant Empire, would she?”
“I can’t tell you these things.” Lyla’s expression was very rigid as she chose to keep secrets at that moment.
But she wasn’t very good at lying, and Jiang Qiao didn’t press further because doing so could result in someone being completely controlled by the crystals.
“I have a method of treatment, though it’s not exactly a method of treatment,” said Jiang Qiao, taking out the System’s Tome. “Your goal is to remove the crystals from their bodies and restore them to normal human bodies, right?”
Lyla nodded in response to Jiang Qiao.
“But their souls and bodies have completely fused with the crystals—it’s impossible, not even by the gods. So, my solution is to give them new bodies.”
Jiang Qiao flipped through the System’s Tome in his hands, turning to the NPC management page. There were one hundred and forty-three NPCs currently enabled in the Sea Blue Domain, with thirty-four not enabled.
These unused NPCs, like dolls, were stored in the System’s Tome’s storage space, silently waiting for Jiang Qiao to need new NPCs and take them out.
“A new body is…” Lyla listened with a palpable sense of alarm. Jiang Qiao’s method of treatment had surpassed her understanding as a mortal.
It had somewhat surpassed Jiang Qiao’s understanding too, but he believed it was feasible.
“As the name suggests, it’s resurrection. I shall copy their bodies as they were in normal condition and then stuff their souls into them. However, there’s an issue—my created bodies are all tool people.”
Jiang Qiao repeated the term that made Lyla break into a cold sweat… ‘tool people.’
“You create bodies… Souls… just who are you?” Previously, Lyla had thought Jiang Qiao was just a rather powerful Mage, but now it seemed that Jiang Qiao’s abilities went beyond that of a typical Mage.
“Me? Just a game designer driven by personal interest. Back to the issue at hand, the meaning of tool people is that they can only do a few things in their lifetime. After revival, they cannot step out of the range of Biland Island, but I guarantee their lives will be much better than in the outside world.”
The NPCs created by Jiang Qiao could only move within the range covered by the Sea Blue Domain; the Mages were the physical manifestations of that domain. Since Hai Lan’s domain had not yet expanded beyond Biland Island, any NPC that escaped would cause a bug.
“This… what exactly would they have to do?” Lyla’s face suddenly turned crimson at this thought, and now it was Jiang Qiao’s turn to struggle to keep his expression in check.
What on earth is he thinking of, such wicked things!
“For the current phase, it seems likely to be chicken raising, duck farming, and cattle-breeding types of activities.”
Jiang Qiao had planned to create a talent market system on Biland Island. The various guilds likely wouldn’t have much time to take care of things at their strongholds, and Xia Shan’s mining and logistics system would take a long time to manufacture.
In that case, the players would probably want to hire NPCs to do those tedious tasks.
“Is that all?” Lyla asked.
“That’s all.”
Lyla went through another fierce internal struggle, her gaze fixated on the unconscious girl lying on the bed. If this continued, she might completely lose herself under the crystalized energy and turn into a monster.
“Let’s… do this.” Having suffered so much, Lyla no longer dared to hope for too much. To survive was already her greatest expectation.
“Then I’ll turn them all into tool people,” Jiang Qiao repeated, using a term that made Lyla’s heart skip a beat.
Golden light blossomed in Jiang Qiao’s pupils as he lazily converted these ready-made souls and bodies into NPCs. Each conversion only required between ten to fifteen points of energy. The conversion of the elf took a bit more, costing thirty-two points.
When the light covered those wounded, in less than a minute, they turned into light that surged into the System Book Jiang Qiao was holding, becoming a part of the reserve NPCs within the book.
“Where are they?”
Seeing the now empty beds, Lyla struggled to maintain her composure.
“Right here,” Jiang Qiao said, flipping through the pages of the System Book. On one of the pages was a photo of the girl who had just been lying on the bed, along with various details about her.

“What are these?” Lyla seemed to be seeing such detailed data about the girl for the first time.
“Her character card, to let her prospective employers understand her better,” Jiang Qiao explained as he affixed a ‘1 Gold Coin/Day’ hiring price tag under the character card.
Jiang Qiao planned to initially offer the hiring system on a rental basis and create permanent employment contracts only after the NPCs developed a high level of affection for a particular guild.
After pondering for a moment… he added another especially wicked attribute.
‘Rarity SR’.
“Hiring? Who among those holy spirits would hire her?”
Lyla, whose emotions were originally on edge, suddenly brought up the holy spirits again. The image of the giraffe knocking horns with the rainbow unicorn surfaced in her mind once more, and she found it hard to keep a worried expression.
“That I don’t know. I’ll tell you when you come next time, but I assure you… they won’t be in any danger,” Jiang Qiao said as he closed the System Book in his hands.
“Where are they now?” Lyla remembered how Jiang Qiao had absorbed the six people into that magic book earlier. There probably wasn’t any oxygen or essential food in the book’s space, was there?
“Now? They are having a long dream, a dream that tells them their current situation and what they will need to do in the future.” The System Book in Jiang Qiao’s hands disappeared in the blink of an eye. “This dream will continue until they are hired.”
