Chapter 226: If He’s Still Alive, You Can Hit Him Back

Satisfied after inspecting her new space, Su Yijia was about to leave when she heard hurried footsteps outside.

"Search! Find her quickly! She can’t have left the village, or she’d be minced meat by now."

"She must be hiding somewhere in the village! She must have intentionally been captured to retrieve something. We can’t let her succeed!"

The voices were accompanied by more frantic footsteps and the sound of gunshots.

Su Yijia crouched inside her space, waiting for a while until she was sure it was completely silent outside. Only then did she step out.

Not far from where she emerged, she saw the man who had captured her lying dead. There was a gaping hole in his forehead, and his eyes remained wide open, a look of unresolved anger etched on his face.

It made sense; after all the trouble he went through to capture her, only for things to go so wrong. But it was all a coincidence, not part of her plan.

She couldn’t help but be grateful for their thoroughness in never leaving empty-handed. Without their diligence, she wouldn’t have had the chance to infiltrate and complete her mission amid their lowered guard.

Reminding herself of the danger, Su Yijia moved stealthily through the village, ducking low. Several times she used her space to narrowly avoid detection.

Even with this method, escaping their encirclement was impossible. They had surrounded the village tightly and had likely buried traps underground. Even professionals couldn’t fully detect everything, let alone her.

Su Yijia decided to escape via the river that ran through the village and several others in the mountains. She waded into the reeds, grabbed some stalks, and tied them together before diving into the swift current.

The water was clear but rushed like a flood. The current swept her several meters downstream before she managed to stabilize herself. At a depth of about two meters, the specially trained guards could still see her. To avoid detection, she needed to dive at least three meters deep, which meant swimming to the middle of the river where there were no obstructing rocks.

But the water was even more turbulent there. Su Yijia, confident in her swimming skills and strength, still struggled and nearly choked after just a few meters. She had to duck into her space to catch her breath before continuing her swim.

It took her nearly four hours to swim the 4000 to 5000 meters from the village center to its outskirts, just barely evading the guards’ line of sight. Exhausted, she even ate some of the three-tier birthday cake and roasted chicken she had won from the lottery for energy.

Finally reaching Xia Weiguo’s controlled territory, she climbed out of the water, drenched and bedraggled.

Her sudden emergence immediately attracted attention. Before anyone could approach, Su Yijia raised her hands.

"I’m Qin Kaize’s wife. I escaped by myself."

Hearing her, the people around were skeptical, fearing a trick. It wasn’t until someone who had protected her before vouched for her identity that they escorted her back.

"Jiajia!"

"Sister-in-law!"

Xia Weiguo and Gao Huabin hurried out of their tent upon hearing the news. Behind them were Grandpa Lin and Grandma Lin, faces pale with worry, and Qin Kaize at the forefront.

Qin Kaize’s eyes were fixed on Su Yijia, unblinking, as if afraid she would disappear if he looked away for even a second. The intensity of his emotions almost overwhelmed her, stirring a deep sense of grievance that rose within her, reaching her head. Her lips quivered, and her eyes turned red.

"You’re back! That’s all that matters!" Grandma Lin hurried over, pulling Su Yijia into a tight embrace. After patting her back several times, she pulled away slightly to examine her granddaughter’s swollen, reddened cheek.

"Does it hurt? How can those scoundrels be so cruel?" Grandma Lin’s tears flowed uncontrollably.

Su Yijia quickly supported her and comforted her, "Grandma, it’s nothing serious, just a minor injury. The important thing is that I made it back safely. I need to discuss something with Kaize."

"Yes, old lady, stop crying. Jiajia is back safe and sound. Since she has something important to discuss, let her talk first," Grandpa Lin gently guided Grandma Lin away.

Su Yijia then approached Qin Kaize. Gao Huabin immediately stepped aside, allowing her to push Qin Kaize into the tent. The others stayed outside, ensuring no one disturbed them.

Su Yijia knelt in front of Qin Kaize, wanting to speak, but he beat her to it.

"Who hit you?"

"A man with a scar running from his eye to his nose. He blamed me for the deaths of their people," Su Yijia seized the opportunity to complain.

As expected, Qin Kaize’s eyes darkened upon hearing this. He looked like a predatory beast that had found its prey, sending chills down her spine. But when his gaze returned to his wife, the coldness melted away, replaced by gentle reassurance.

"Don’t worry, we won’t let him get away. You’ll get your chance to hit him back," Qin Kaize promised, his eyes softening with warmth.

"Can I really hit him?" Su Yijia asked excitedly.

"Yes, as long as he’s still alive," Qin Kaize assured her.

But his words sounded like a death sentence.

Su Yijia licked her lips, struggling to find the right way to bring up what she needed to say next.

Qin Kaize continued, "There’s a blanket and clothes in the tent. Dry your hair first."

"Aren’t you eager to ask about the situation inside?" Su Yijia questioned.

"Your well-being is more important. We can handle the rest," Qin Kaize replied. He knew the villagers of Yongyang Village had been captured, but no matter how urgent the situation, he didn’t want to burden his wife with the pressure.

Su Yijia glanced at him, then got up to fetch the blanket, using it as a towel to dry her hair. After drying off, she draped the clothes over herself and sat back down beside Qin Kaize.

"I have some ointment in my pocket," Qin Kaize reminded her.

This reminder made Su Yijia swallow the words she was about to say. She reached into his shirt pocket and pulled out a small container of clam oil. Scooping out a dollop, she applied it to her face. The cool ointment stung, making the veins in her head throb. After quickly applying it to her sore cheek, she took a few deep breaths to calm down, then looked directly at Qin Kaize.

Her slightly pale lips moved as if to speak, but she said nothing.

Qin Kaize smiled first, "If Jiajia doesn’t want to explain, then you don’t have to. Whatever you do, I believe in you."

Did he know something?

Su Yijia’s heart skipped a beat. Despite her efforts to maintain her composure, Qin Kaize’s next words completely broke her facade.
