Ruling the Historical Romance Novel as the Female Supporting Character-Chapter 186: A Stealthy Attack with a Burlap Bag
"No, sister-in-law, what did you just say? Are you sure this is what the boss said?" Gao Huabin, rubbing his drowsy eyes, was instantly wide awake from the shock.
"Can I even deceive you about something like this? But if you think it’s not right, just consider I never mentioned it." Su Yijia didn’t intend to force the issue. As long as Qin Kaize agreed, no one could stop her.
Though it was a bit sly, in comparison to what Yin Linjiang had done, her actions were negligible.
"I can do it! Of course, I can do it! I’ll go find Zhu Zirui right now." Gao Huabin quickly agreed. He was just a bit astonished that the boss would condone such a thing. But on second thought, it was quite normal; after all, he was helping his family vent their frustrations. No man would permit their wife to be targeted by another man and simply swallow their pride. That’d be cowardice.
As he turned to fetch a flashlight, both of them noticed Ke Zeming standing in the shadows, frowning disapprovingly.
Just when Su Yijia thought he would intervene, Ke Zeming abruptly closed his eyes, turned around, and walked towards the bed.
"I’m already asleep. I didn’t hear a thing," he quickly muttered before laying down.
After speaking, he collapsed onto the bed, soon beginning to snore. Gao Huabin and Su Yijia’s faces twitched, but they both secretly breathed a sigh of relief. If Ke Zeming had really tried to intervene, it would have been quite troublesome. Fortunately, he seemed to have opened up this time and wasn’t being obstinate.
Once everything was arranged, Su Yijia contentedly cuddled up to Qin Kaize, who had become her oversized human pillow, and peacefully drifted off to dreamland.
In the quiet and secluded alley, two men, slithering along like snakes, laboriously made their way toward a small building at the end of the alley.
"Ah, Lin Baozhu, you’ve hidden for so long, but you can’t avoid returning. When I get my hands on you, I’ll show you what a real... a real man is." Yin Linjiang was so inebriated that he could hardly keep his eyes open, his mind preoccupied with the woman who had slipped from his grasp.
One of his subordinates exerted all his strength to barely support him, but he too had imbibed quite a bit of alcohol and his legs had already begun to weaken. If it weren’t for the fear of Yin Linjiang falling and being unable to walk the next day, he would have wanted to just lie down on the ground.
Yet, having only taken three steps forward, Yin Linjiang abruptly turned around, clenching his neck in a tight grip, the weight of his entire body pressing down upon him.
"Speak! You gigolo, why did you try to steal Baozhu from me? If it weren’t for your meddling, she would have been mine a long time ago! Speak! Why did you try to take her from me?" He glared with his unfocused eyes, both hands tightly gripping his subordinate’s neck.
Though intoxicated, his strength was not insignificant.
"Ch-Chief... It’s me, Ch... Ch Chen..."
The subordinate struggled to explain, attempting to pry Yin Linjiang’s hands away but couldn’t manage it. Seeing his breath was about to stop, he had no choice but to forcefully kick Yin Linjiang in the knee.
The pain made Yin Linjiang collapse heavily to the ground, somewhat sobering him up. But before he could erupt, he suddenly heard the sound of the wind cutting through the air. His sight immediately went dark.
His entire body was brutally beaten with sticks and bricks, causing intense pain that made him want to scream and plead for mercy.
However, his drunken shouts were feeble compared to the noise generated by the impacts of the sticks and bricks. Eventually, the bricks shattered, and the sticks were broken.
Gao Huabin, as if shelling corn, attended to his hands and feet without mercy. Meanwhile, Zhu Zirui knocked out the other man, also hooded in a sack.
Swiftly, they disappeared into the night. From start to finish, only the heavens and the earth knew; it was just an affair between themselves.
Su Yijia got up at six in the morning, informing Grandpa and Grandma Lin about the departure at noon. The couple was taken aback but had no time for questions, hastily preparing for the journey.
Grandma Lin hurriedly went to pack clothes and shoes, blankets, and sheets to ward off the dampness in the Yun Province. She also realized there wasn’t enough time to prepare dumplings for the road and planned to purchase some from the State-Owned Restaurant. Upon her return, she was stopped by Su Yijia, who insisted they should let Gao Huabin buy the food.
Despite having only her mother’s photo in Yin Linjiang’s possession, there was less than a day left before they had to leave. Su Yijia didn’t want to risk complicating the situation.
"Sister-in-law, are you looking for me?" Gao Huabin yawned, walking out of the building, looking puzzled.
Su Yijia was startled, her brows immediately furrowed. "Yes, could you get ready? I need your help."
"Alright." Gao Huabin took a deep breath, shaking his head, and headed to the bathroom.
It’s like he was afraid of delaying Su Yijia’s matters. Grandpa and Grandma Lin, seeing she had arranged everything, went back to their room to finalize the luggage.
When Gao Huabin emerged from the bathroom, Su Yijia hurried to him. "What are you still doing here at this time? Didn’t we agree to give that person a good beating?" she asked in a hushed, anxious tone.
"We’ve already taken care of it," Gao Huabin explained hastily. "Last night, Zhu Zirui and I planned to wait outside his house. We met him just as he returned from drinking outside. We thought it was enough to beat him up a bit. We had to do it early so we could go back and sleep. Don’t worry, sis! His hands and feet are completely ruined. Even if they heal, they’ll be disabled for sure."
"Great job!" Su Yijia praised, delighted. Then she lightly patted Gao Huabin’s arm. "When we reach Yun Province, I’ll make delicious meals for you every day."
"Thank you, sis," Gao Huabin replied, smiling foolishly.
"Oh, by the way, could you buy some dumplings, buns, or similar items? We can eat them on the train today. Also, I’ll give you two thousand yuan later. Help me give it to Xu Li’an. Tell him I’ll be late and to use the money to collect things within two or three months, not all at once. Also, you need to give the keys to Zhu. Ask him to stay at our place for the next two months. We need him to look after the things in the house," Su Yijia arranged the following matters, feeling a little uneasy.
They only had one morning left and three things to do. Time was indeed a bit rushed. Gao Huabin hadn’t even packed the luggage yet.
But this matter had to be done; not informing Xu Li’an might make him unnecessarily anxious. Moreover, if the valuable electrical appliances moved in and out twice, it would be too conspicuous. Their wedding day had been too ostentatious, and everyone had noticed. With no one in the house for two months, word might get out, and the place could become a target for thieves. It would be disheartening if these appliances were stolen overnight. Su Yijia had no choice but to let Zhu Zirui help look after the house.
"Okay, I’ll go put on my shoes," Gao Huabin went back inside, not only changing his shoes but also his patch-covered pajamas. When he came out, he took the money Su Yijia gave him and immediately rode his bike out.
