Rogue Villain-Chapter 379: The Moment
After catching the Evil-Slaying Sword with an outstretched branch, the tree gradually transformed into a bark-covered humanoid with indents for eyes and a scar on its face for the mouth.
The curved scar split open, revealing a pitch-black abyss inside as The Calamity cackled when The Hero retrieved his sword.
The Hero landed after his initial lunge before pouncing forward again.
His party already knew what they had to do. But The Hero had to keep The Calamity occupied so that they could do what he wanted them to do.
Fortunately, The Calamity didn’t seem to have eyes for anyone but The Hero.
Eris, Refina, and Hantar separated The Calamity from the island of trees in their own ways. But all their methods were based on destroying the trees and cutting The Calamity off from the rest of the forest.
With the help of the occasional Helix Slash from The Hero’s Evil-Slaying Sword, it didn’t take long before they ravaged the forest and shrank the island to less than a tenth of its size.
Eris used her powers to drown the parts of the forest they cut and burned off before they could regrow and reattach. Refina isolated the island and invaded what remained of the wood-covered floor with her own magic to create a footing her party members could rely on.
Hantar poured chemicals on the ground to continue wearing away at The Calamity’s forest and strength.
After that, the three joined up with The Hero, Dala Storm, and Makrost Axles to fight The Calamity and save the world from the complete annihilation of all intelligent life.
The Calamity had already skewered Makrost when he blocked a strike for Dala. So, Eris healed him and restored him to his peak state while buffing him and the others at the same time.
Instantly, Dala’s and The Hero’s power and speed soared as they flashed around The Calamity, cutting away at its harder-than-diamond bark.
The Hero’s party appeared to have the upper hand. But it was only appearances. The Hero and Dala weren’t putting in much damage on The Calamity’s main body, regardless of the technique they used.
It got a little better when Refina and Hantar added their firepower to the mix. But The Calamity’s mouth was still open wide and letting out a cackling laughter that chilled their spines.
At least The Calamity didn’t have a threatening level of offensive power of its own. They just needed not to make a mistake and continue wearing down The Calamity until it lost all its power and died.
It was a battle of attrition. And with The Hero’s endless stamina and the Saintess’ endless buffs and healing, The Hero’s party had the advantage, even against the tree-like Calamity with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of vitality and wood.
However, The Calamity wasn’t only its main body. If it were, it would have never wreaked such havoc on the entire world at once.
The main source of danger posed by The Calamity was its Seeds of Calamity. It imbued its targets with unbelievable strength and robbed them of free will.
Every being infected with a Seed of Calamity became one of The Calamity’s branches. It controlled them down to the tiniest muscles and nerves.
But if The Calamity died, they wouldn’t do anything.
As such, it was only a matter of time before the Seeds of Calamity showed up to the battle.
Not all monsters and beasts were adept swimmers. But with The Calamity’s control, the Seeds of Calamity cooperated to bring each other to the island with the main body as quickly as possible.
Before long, the oceans crawled with creatures infested with The Calamity’s power. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
The Hero raised an eyebrow as he scanned the surrounding water and air. he did so without missing a beat and cut off one of the many branches on The Calamity’s head.
*Dala, can you hold your own here for a moment?*
Dala nodded. She didn’t have enough leeway to give The Hero a response. But if it was continuing the fight with The Calamity, she could do it. She had to do it.
The Hero was the only one who could destroy the Seeds and stop them from attaching to another creature or one of his party members. He was also the most efficient one when it came to slaughter.
When the battle reached the right spot, The Hero had Makrost take the heat while Dala sprinted around and jabbed The Calamity with her spear, leaving behind explosive tar from Hantar.
Before The Calamity could react to the explosions that rocked its body, The Hero had already dashed away and launched wave after wave of Helix Slashes with his sword. But they weren’t ordinary attacks.
Since The Hero was dealing with The Calamity’s minions, he imbued his attacks with the power of Blessing of the World. It was the only power in the world that could counter The Calamity’s unique power and abilities.
It was what made The Hero The Hero. It was why no one but him could do what he had to do. It was the fact that he could leverage the power of the world to kill or expel The Calamity that gave him the responsibility to save the world.
With that power, The Hero made quick work of the army of beasts and monsters of all kinds. Although there were many, none of them were as powerful as The Calamity itself. And those that were close to that level of strength were caught up in the sticky mess of the remains of the weak and the power of the world weighing on the Seed’s power.
The Hero’s hair and eyes glowed white as he eradicated the traces of The Calamity’s attempts to destroy the world before returning to the main battle before Makrost and Dala lost any more of their limbs.
He decided to end it in one go. All of his party members were tired from the intensity of the battle and the sheer pressure The Calamity carried. All of them were exhausted physically, mentally, spiritually, and magically. Hantar had started resorting to his emergency flares. He was out of ammo.
The Hero wasn’t much better. Using the power of Millmeria itself took its toll on his human body. It was his ace in the hole against The Calamity, but it was a double-edged sword that cut away at his stamina and life force.
As long as he didn’t overuse it, he would recover. But The Hero didn’t have that much freedom in this battle.
His party members were getting tired, and The Calamity had lost all of its fighting force. But The Calamity itself was only a little worn.
Its cackling had gotten shriller as it noticed The Hero’s party growing tired.
The Hero bathed his sword and himself in white light that rivaled the daylight sun’s brightness as he flashed through the air toward The Calamity.
He had never used this much power before. He could feel his body disintegrate under the power of the world. He had no choice.
This was the moment that decided whether he earned the position of Hero or not.
The fact that he didn’t even consider any other option or hesitate was proof enough that he deserved it.
The Hero lashed out with the most powerful attack he had ever pulled off, and he concentrated all of that power on one sword-deep spot on The Calamity, cleaving it in half and extinguishing its essence and existence.
The Hero’s shoulders slumped as he stood behind The Calamity. He heaved a sigh as deep as the ocean. He had done it.
Now...
