Chapter 319: Recruiting Mastrax

Mastrax might be awkward and more inclined to studious endeavors rather than military ones. But he was a dragon, an ancient one at that. He also was no fool. Mastrax wasn’t just going to let Ackster beat the snot out of his old bones.

"Here I come!"

Mastrax cried out as he threw a punch toward Ackster’s face.

Ackster furrowed his brow and dodged. Mastrax’s moves were those of an amateur. So, even if he had enough power to send a tornado through the air merely by punching it, Ackster could read his movements like an open book.

Ackster had a feeling he knew what Mastrax was going to do before Mastrax did.

’Where did his speed go?’

Mastrax had been so quick that he almost teleported before when Ackster caught his interest. But now, Ackster felt like Mastrax was moving in slow motion.

Sure, Ackster had used Limit Breaker on his Overhuman Senses. But that was because he needed it to pick up Mastrax’s movements.

Ackster rammed his fist into Mastrax’s jaw, sending him stumbling to the side.

’What is going on?’

Ackster looked at the others to see if they were doing anything. Maybe someone had learned how to curse a dragon until it was useless.

Mastrax threw a fist in Ackster’s general direction with unsteady aim as if he were drunk.

Ackster’s brow crinkled in frustration as he front-kicked Mastrax in his abdomen and sent him flying into the wall with a thunderous boom.

Worst of all was the fact that Ackster could tell Mastrax wasn’t taking any damage. It wasn’t just that his vitality healed everything at once. Ackster just didn’t injure him.

Mastrax was strong—stronger than he let show.

"Fucking bastard, are you having fun?"

Ackster stalked toward Mastrax, who had slumped to the floor and was trying to stand up.

"W-wait—!"

Ackster didn’t wait. He kneed Mastrax in the face.

"I g—"

Ackster grabbed Mastrax’s head and slammed it into his knee this time.

"Bka!"

Mastrax stumbled back into the wall, and Ackster unleashed a torrent of strikes to Mastrax’s chest and midsection, using the wall to stop Mastrax from retreating. Mastrax bounced off the wall and ate every single one of Ackster’s rippling strikes.

Finally, blood dyed Mastrax’s rips a crimson red as Ackster’s strikes gave him severe enough internal injuries.

Ackster took a step back and exhaled as he looked at Mastrax.

"I give! I give! You win!"

Mastrax used part of his lab coat as a white flag. He waved it while looking miserable. But the blood on his lips was gone, and he was still undamaged by Ackster’s punches.

It was a sour victory for Ackster.

"Fuck off."

Ackster was about to kick Mastrax in the head when Kargas put a hand on his shoulder. Instinctively, Ackster directed his blood lust, sharpened through the fight and his frustration, at Kargas.

Kargas backed off several steps at once with cold sweat dampening his back.

’Whoops.’

Ackster turned back to Mastrax.

"So you’ll accompany us?"

"Do I still get to cut you open?"

"If you teach me how to use Covenants and vitality better." 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

"Covenants?"

"Isn’t that why you didn’t resist?"

"...No—I mean yes, of course. That’s why I didn’t fight back. Not because I realized after I already said no that I wanted to—Uh..."

’Is this guy really a dragon?’

Ackster narrowed his eyes as he looked at Mastrax. Out of all the dragons he had met so far, Mastrax was the most disappointing one.

Ackster sighed.

’Whatever.’

As long as he was useful, Mastrax could be as disappointing as he wanted.

"Do you have anything to do before we leave?"

Since they had somehow gotten Mastrax to come with, Ackster didn’t want to waste any more time.

"Ah, yes. I’m going to prepare my house a little so that I can step away without worrying about losing it."

’Ugh.’

Ackster just nodded. He couldn’t be bothered to ask how Mastrax was planning on losing his island.

"Be quick."

Ackster turned to the others. Kargas hadn’t even needed to step in. And the others had only ended up as spectators to the whole debacle.

"I guess that’s one way to do it."

Karandiel looked at Mastrax as the dragon went around the insides of the island like a worker ant, putting up magic and doing what looked like nonsense to the others.

"Yeah."

*I can’t tell if he’s planning anything, so stay alert.*

Ackster used his Will to caution the others with a telepathic message. It was the same kind of communication that the Sword God and Trana had used. It took Ackster a little while to figure it out. But after advancing in his martial arts, it became a lot easier. It was also very useful.

Using his mind to communicate was quicker, easier, and there was no chance of anyone eavesdropping or mishearing what he said.

The others looked at Ackster in surprise as his voice had entered their minds directly without him even opening his mouth. But they were all incredible people, and they could tell Ackster hadn’t wanted Mastrax to hear Ackster suspect him. So, they pretended like nothing.

The only exception was Makkel. He looked around like a mother who had lost their child.

He had been confused ever since Ackster started attacking the ground. The confusion he felt only grew when Ackster started swinging his sword around before continuing to attack the ground. And then, all of a sudden, green portals had swallowed them whole. Before Makkel knew it, Ackster had also talked and fought with a dragon.

To Makkel, it looked like Ackster had been overwhelmingly victorious. He already knew Ackster was strong. But suppressing a dragon all on his own? That was a creature people only knew of in legends! Ackster, and the others for that matter, but especially Ackster, were beyond Makkel’s understanding.

But he was cool!

Makkel looked at Ackster’s grumpy face with shining eyes. He might be a hellish trainer without a sense of mercy. But he had the right to be like that since he was strong and handsome.
