Chapter 68 -Sixty-Eight: The Contest

When the assistant cut off the lock of the third container and pulled open the container door, the treasure hunters outside once again gasped with amazement!

All the containers today are packed to the gills!

“There must be good stuff in this container!”

Everyone once again displayed their skills; Mr. Madden mysteriously sprang out and took out a telescope from his pocket, painstakingly observing the packed boxes and the crevices.

Diana Smith, this voluptuous woman, didn’t even go to open the container she had just won. Instead, she ran over to check out this side again.

The assistant eyed the treasure hunters warily, ceaselessly shouting:

“Do not cross the line! Violators will have their auction qualifications revoked!”

Elder and Little Joey learned from Hamilton Diaz’s previous mistakes, pairing up, with George Qiao perched on Elder Joey’s neck, peering inside.

They immediately blocked many people’s line of sight, with a few grumbling and jostling. Regardless, Elder and Little Joey weren’t bothered.

Sean Knight stood by the container door, observing carefully.

“There’s good stuff in there!” Diana stated confidently, “Look at this box, what’s poking out is a toilet seat! If it was ordinary, I wouldn’t care but if it’s a smart one, this container could easily be worth tens of thousands!”

Diana was speaking to Sean Knight. After she finished, she looked at him, wanting to hear his opinion.

“My view is the same as yours!” Sean Knight smiled, but at the same time, he had a new view of Diana.

Before, he felt that she indulged too much, she didn’t miss a single auction.

Now it seems this woman, being one of the big shots among the treasure hunters, her observations skills are exceptionally strong!

Seeing it was time, the Auctioneer immediately announced:

“The auction starts now, with a base price of eight hundred dollars. Every increase must be no less than a hundred dollars. Now Madden’s bid is one thousand dollars. The bid from Chinese boy Sean Knight is one thousand and one hundred dollars…”

The familiar fast-paced tongue-twisting and uninterrupted repetition of auction prices immediately livened up the atmosphere.

Many people saw the ordinary toilet seat poking out from the outside, but nobody dared to comment on the contents inside, so the price did not rise quickly.

Even the normally impulsive Mr. Madden, who likes to suddenly raise the price, this time only raised the price by several hundred dollars.

When the price had risen to 3800 dollars, the only ones left bidding were Sean Knight, Mr. Madden, Hamilton Diaz and a stranger treasure hunter.

The other person was a tall and skinny young white man, who even smiled at Sean Knight when he looked over.

Sean Knight figured this must be a newbie.

However, this time he was determined to win.

“4500 dollars!” When Sean Knight raised the price to 4500, Diana Smith stomped her foot in frustration, gave up on this auction, and went back to inspect her container again.

Mr. Madden had already left. As he was leaving, he said to Sean Knight:

“Sean, you’ve inflated the price this high; it’s going to be hard to earn any money!”

The young white man raised the price once more, to four thousand eight hundred dollars; Sean Knight immediately raised his hand to five thousand.

When the white youth gave up, Elder Joey suddenly raised his hand to bid:

“Six thousand!”

The moment he finished speaking, Little Joey pulled his arm down, scolding him:

“Are you out of your mind? If they all turn out to be ordinary toilet seats, we’ll lose money, you know?”

“What if there are good ones? Why not take a gamble?” Elder Joey pointed at Sean Knight, “He’s gambling, I can gamble too!”

“Then use your portion of the money, don’t include me!” Little Joey shook off his hand, turned around, and left, grumbling and swearing.

Elder Joey felt a bit embarrassed, but he still braced himself to look at Sean Knight:

“Sean, are you going to raise the price?”

“6500 dollars.” Sean Knight nodded.

Having pocketed Selena Foster’s fifty thousand dollars, his assets have once again risen above a hundred thousand. He could still afford to gamble within the range of ten thousand.

Elder Joey made an effort and followed up with another bid:

“6600 dollars!”

“7000!” Sean Knight didn’t even lower his hand as he made another offer.

Elder Joey gave up.

The auctioneer congratulated Sean Knight on winning the container and quickly moved on to the fourth container.

As the fourth container opened, the treasure hunters immediately screamed in surprise, attracting the attention of Mr. Madden, Diana Smith, and Sean Knight.

Seeing so many animals, Jason Caldwell shook his head:

“Such good stuff…”

Elder Joey pulled Little Joey aside and said:

“We must win this! I bet there’s something even better inside!”

Just outside, there were lions, deer, leopards, and more. There must be something even better inside.

Old Madden bent over again to take a look inside.

Sean Knight waited for him to stand up, then asked:

“Madden, what kind of treasures did you find in your last container?”

“Treasures? Bullshit! They’re all empty boxes! Fuck! The owner of this container should drop dead! Damned swindler!”

Even the normally temperate Madden couldn’t hold back his expletives. “And you?”

“I haven’t opened mine yet. I wanted to see if these items could be auctioned, but it seems I needn’t bother.”

“Why?” old Madden asked.

“I don’t know about things here, but back in my home country, there’s strict regulations on protected animals. I’m afraid if I find a specimen of a protected species, I’ll end up getting fined instead of making money.”

After saying this, Sean Knight turned and walked away, with Jason immediately following.

Madden hesitated for a moment, ultimately deciding to stay.

Previously, he lost so much, he had to risk it this time. Where else could he find a way to recover his losses?

Sean Knight and Jason began moving out the packing boxes.

Beside them, Diana, with the help of an assistant, was struggling to lift the banana boxes.

The stench wafted over, causing Sean Knight to stop and ask:

“Diana, what’s that strange smell?”

“Rotten bananas!” Diana replied indignantly, “Boxes full of rotten bananas. However, there are things wrapped inside. I’m going to check if there’s any treasure…”

This container is obviously from the tropics, if there are crafts left by indigenous people inside, Diana would have no pressure to make a profit.

Of course, Sean Knight knew she was dreaming.

After pulling out those big rolls of things and unwrapping them, Diana loudly cursed:

“F*ck! Who’s so damn bored as to wrap these things in the box and bring them over!”

Sean Knight looked over and laughed. So those rolls were thin banana-slashing knives!

He ignored Diana and continued moving toilet seat covers with Jason.

Sean had looked it up earlier. Ordinary toilet seat covers here retail for about ten dollars each. So a box of ten was worth around a hundred and fifty dollars.

Judging by the number of boxes, there seemed to be about fifty or sixty. If they are all like this, then there was pretty much no profit to be made.

Screams came from the auction having concluded for the fourth container.

The treasure hunters slowly dispersed, some leaving, others moving off to check out other containers they found interesting.

A few people came over to where Sean Knight was, but they laughed and left after seeing the contents of the opened boxes were only ordinary toilet seat covers.

Jason grumbled in discontent:

“Wait till we find the treasure inside, it’ll make you green with envy!”

Sean Knight laughed, he hadn’t expected Jason to be so vain!
