Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!-Chapter 371: Chaotic Women’s Section! (II)
The strategy that Anna used in this game was simple. She wanted to go for the war of attrition, challenging her opponent’s endurance and patience to the brink. This was something that she had been planning the moment the girl saw her opponent, and it came from deep thought.
’Anna Ushenina is already 37, and the last time she played in a competitive chess tournament was about nine months ago. Her form should be quite rusty here, and even though she has done well so far, I don’t believe that she could maintain her concentration for so long. I just need to drag the game as long as possible, and I think my chance will come soon.’
This was definitely a decent strategy. However, Claudia, who also knew about this, couldn’t help but sigh.
"What’s wrong, Ia?" Bagas caught that little gesture and asked.
"No, it is... Nothing." Claudia shook her head wryly. "Just lamenting the fact that my Big Sis has been corrupted by Sheva a lot here."
"Oh? How so?" This time, Bagas was genuinely curious, not just a question to trigger traffic.
"In fact, I know what my Big Sis is doing here, and I have done the same a few times in the past. This is the strategy that Sheva developed, and he named it pretty crudely. A Veteran Crusher, if you believe the name of the plan is." Claudia chuckled dryly. "As for what the plan is... Well, it is exactly what it is called, a strategy to destroy a veteran player. You also know what their weakness is, right?" She asked rhetorically.
Bagas and Sarah were dumbfounded, not expecting that there was this kind of strategy in Sheva’s arsenal. At some point, they also looked worried, thinking about whether this would be too bold for YouTube or not. Still, since Claudia asked, Bagas blurted out the answer unconsciously.
"It is their stamina, right?"
"Indeed, the strategy is targeting their endurance." Claudia nodded in confirmation. "This is a deliberate strategy that is going straight at their time management skill. By using the opening that is far from the mainstream line, Big Sis wants to force her opponent to think hard and gain a lot of time advantage, and in the endgame, it would be easier to crush an opponent with the time trouble compared to a normal one." The little girl explained.
"That... Is so hideous." Bagas felt the corner of his mouth twitching madly, too speechless to say anything else here. Still, if anything, he shouldn’t be surprised here. After all, the fat boy knew that his best friend was capable of this kind of dirty strategy.
Meanwhile, the situation on the other boards was also quite tense.
On board 1 and 2, both Irene and Medina were trying their best to survive. However, their opponents were former women’s world champions, Anna and Maria Muzychuk. This game was bound to be difficult since the pairing was decided, so no one was surprised by their struggle.
Irene herself managed to hold on better. Even though her opponent, Anna Muzychuk, was a better sister, Irene herself was not a paper tiger. She came from the same generation as those two sisters, and while it was not often, they had met quite a few times in the past. It was a pity that her peak was far from them, but her experience in the past was enough to make Irene feel confident about surviving this game.
On the other hand, Medina’s situation was a little bit worse. Her opponent was Maria Muzychuk, the calmer and less aggressive sister. This was definitely not Medina’s best style, yet she was dragged into a positional warfare, getting forced to think of each move in fear of stepping into a landmine spread throughout the battlefield.
The situation was completely opposite to Anna’s game. Although the position was pretty much equal, Medina got pushed hard to the point that she was down by almost thirty minutes. If she didn’t move faster, sooner or later, she would get killed by the time scramble, which would be a ridiculous way to die at this stage.
As for the last board... Well, the situation was so ridiculous that no one knew what was going on there.
Having already secured her gold medal, Laysa played without pressure, and the girl really unleashed all of her power without any worry since the beginning of the game. Her opponent, Nataliya Buksa, was so overwhelmed by her attack that she was so close to breaking down on the table.
Not only did Laysa get a massive advantage in time, but the evaluation bar even showed +3.2 for her, which, while not an absolute advantage that could ensure the win 100 percent, was still enough to make her live her life comfortably to the end of the game.
Out of all the games on that table, it seemed that Laysa was the only one who was confident enough to get a full point.
"Yeah, Laysa seems to get a qualitative leap like Sheva, beating all of her opponents mercilessly." Claudia praised the older girl begrudgingly. "I admit that she has the ability, but I think Big Sis is still the stronger player between the two!" She pouted with her cheek bulging like a squirrel, eliciting a small squeal from Sarah and even a small commotion in the live chat room.
Orange60: Oh, Gosh... The cuteness is overload here!
Berry342: Her smile should be illegal, right?
Gosh: Oh, God... I think I fell in love here... 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Hila99: That’s disgusting, you bunch of perverts!
"Nevertheless, this is definitely a happy thing, right?" Bagas smiled widely. "I mean, Anna and Laysa are so close to winning their games, so we are getting closer to the bronze medal, right?"
Indeed, this was exactly the case. Usually, two wins would be enough to ensure a win in this Olympiad. Of course, there was still a chance that the game would end up in a draw. However, if that happened, neither country would be standing on the podium, so that was definitely the worst-case situation.
However, no one dared to celebrate quickly here. After all, with the Muzychuk sisters still fighting, all of them had a hunch that something could go wrong at any moment.
’God... Please, just let us win comfortably today...’
