Rise of The Strongest Monarch-Chapter 68: Streets Of Amadon[1]
I let the thoughts pass as I enjoy the remainder of the meal with Airi. But I can’t help but stare out the window, something about this city is catching my attention.
The streets of amadon aren’t cleared of zierel yet so I think there is a lot of work for me to do here. Airi, Zeno, and Amelia are all here to give a hand as well.
I doubt Airi will be tagging along with me since she keeps sending me off on my own... or with Amelia.
There’s not much I can say about it, she does know what the best approach is.
At least I trust her enough to let her give us all the orders; I don’t really know enough to be marching around the world by myself yet. Eventually I’ll have the skills needed to make the decisions on my own.
The rain sounds as if it is starting to lighten up a bit, probably coming to the end of the storm.
"Are you ready to head back out?" Airi asks with a curious look in her eyes.
"Yeah, I’m ready," I answer confidently.
I sit down my plate and stand up, letting my sword form back within my hand again.
Clatter.
I turn towards the direction Amelia is in and notice she’s standing up as well now, all ready to go.
"Seems like everyone is ready to head back out onto the streets," Airi says with excitement.
"There’s a lot to kill I’m sure," Amelia responds with a serious tone.
"Do you both have the strength for it?" Airi asks curiously.
"Yes," We both answer at the same time.
"Then let’s go," Airi says while leading the way.
I follow behind her, alongside of Amelia, with a bit of shock since she is tagging along.
As we exit the store I can see that the rain isn’t coming down much anymore, must’ve been a passing storm. Zeno is nowhere to be seen, almost like he is gone.
I didn’t give it much thought as I continue to follow Airi down the street.
Everything is quiet around here... No sign of anyone or anything; the streets being like this is kind of expected.
Wriggle. Wriggle.
I slightly shift my gaze towards my left arm as we continue to move forward.
"Heading deeper into the city is probably the best idea," Airi mentions as we walk.
"Is there a lot of them there?" I ask with a serious tone.
"Maybe, I don’t really have a clue where they could be hiding here," Airi answers.
"I’m sure they are hiding all around us," Amelia speaks up with certainty.
"That could be true," Airi responds with a calm tone in her voice.
All of us keep our guard up as we travel through the streets of amadon.
I don’t think I ever came to the city before they put the walls up... Everything feels so unfamiliar here. I guess that is kind of a downside to not leaving my home very often.
There’s nothing really wrong with it, but I’m sure a few trips away from it would’ve been nice.
Seeing what’s outside of our city could’ve been a great experience for us. But it feels odd that I can’t really remember the name of my own city.
That is something that has been bothering me lately... it isn’t even on the map that Airi showed us.
Why doesn’t the city have a name to refer to?
"It doesn’t matter," Celeste speaks up.
Why wouldn’t it matter? I think it should be quite important since I grew up in the damn place.
"The city is basically dead, just like every other city in your world. That’s why," Celeste answers with frustration in her voice.
They aren’t all dead yet... I don’t understand the frustration over me caring about a name of a city. I grew up there so obviously I’m going to care a bit about what the hell it’s called.
How can I ever refer to it? Just home? No, that wasn’t my home.
"You can figure out the name of it later. There’s more important issues to worry about right now anyway, don’t you think?" Celeste responds with more of a calm tone.
Right, my bad. I probably should be more focused on the city I’m in now since we don’t know what we’ll run into here.
Shuffle! Shuffle!!
The sounds of something running nearby takes my attention away from the path ahead.
"I think we might be seeing the zierel you mentioned Amelia," I say while taking a few glances around.
"Here I was just taking an educated guess," Amelia replies quietly.
Red eyes slowly start to appear around us as the footsteps get closer and closer, each set of eyes at different heights.
Bang!! Bang!!! Bang!!!!
A series of gunshots echo as they go past us into the eyes of the zierel. The light briefly illuminates the monsters before us but the bodies are just hitting the ground.
The gunshots go on for a few moments until the bodies finally stop hitting the ground.
Just barely I can count around 10 to 15 Zierel laying on the ground now... An easy amount to deal with. With that I look back towards one of the rooftops and notice Zeno sitting on top.
He is holding a rifle in his hand this time around, not the pistols.
I guess he can use different types of guns instead of just the pistols, that is kind of cool.
It makes me think about what other guns he could use or is that it? Just the pistols and the rifle that he has in his hands right now. Either way it is a pretty powerful weapon to have access to like that, especially with the range he has.
Airi just gives a thumbs up to him and he just stares back at us with a smile on his face.
He’s basically back to being the guy that annoys the shit out of me for some reason, but I don’t understand it.
