Chapter 13: Chapter 13 - A formidable queen

The hall was even more crowded today. Elders from different packs, including the second-high lords.

I was dragged in, my hands still bound, though I hardly felt the restraints. The moment I stepped inside, all eyes turned on me.

The judge struck his gavel and the room fell silent.

"Queen Zephyrine," he called, his voice echoing through the chamber. "The Council has deliberated. You stand accused of murder, of disregarding the authority of the White Council, and of tainting the honor of an Alpha's blood."

I did not flinch. Just looked at him like all he just spit out were nonsense. Keeping my calm for the past few days have become impossible.

He continued, "However, since you are not aware of the l council rules, it has been decided that if you beg for forgiveness, you will be granted mercy and be spared punishment."

They all braced, waiting to see me beg, like hell I would. I rather crawl on thorns.

"Beg?" I repeated, my voice low.

The judge nodded, as if he believed I would comply.

My lips curled into a slow, dangerous smile.

Unexpectedly, I yanked my arms apart. A sharp crack split the air as the bindings shattered. The chains meant to restrain my wolf powers, broke as if they were nothing more than thread.

They all gasped. The guards stepped forward, but I lifted a single hand, and they hesitated.

I sneered moving forward, titling my neck sideways making a cracking sound.

"Can't believe I had to play along with your irritating games." I muttered, stretching my arm.

I raised my head to look at them, walking round the room as my gaze met each of them.

I grinned, a sinister smile on my lips, "Don't think you brought me here, I made you all bring me here."

They furrowed their brows, murmuring among themselves, wondering what I meant.

A small smile crept on my lip.

FLASH BACK

"Roland, bring him in."

Killian was forcefully dragged in and pushed onto the ground In front of where I sat.

I stood up and walked behind him, pulling him by his hair backwards. He screamed in pain and I let it go roughly.

Killian started to laugh. I took the pills from Roland and bent towards Killian, my palms opened wide.

"What are this?" I asked.

He squeezed his face and threw away spit from his mouth by my side. I groaned inwardly, feeling disgusted. I grabbed his head, hitting it hard on the iron chair where I sat.

Blood oozed out from the cut, and he fell to the ground gasping for breath.

"I won't repeat myself, Killian, where did you get this?" I asked again.

He coughed out, his breath ragged. "They will come for you."

I grinned, "Who would come for me?"

"The... the white council of werewolves, they won't let you go if you kill me." He replied.

"Hm.... White council of werewolves, I've heard of them. Did you get this from them?"

He didn't respond. I went over to the place where Roland was already heating the iron rod in preparation for the next round of torture if he still refuses to speak.

I pressed it on his lap and he screamed in agonizing pain. "I got it from the council. The council." He said quickly and I removed the rod.

"The white council, interesting. This was what you took to enhance your powers. But how did they get it? Have never heard of anything that could increase one strength."

"I have no idea how they got it. Someone from the white council gave it to me." He said.

I nodded, turning to leave, and his next words made me pause.

"The white council isn't what you think it is. They won't let you be if you kill me. They will come for you. You will be considered a threat, and you will never be acknowledged as one of them."

I smiled inwardly, "Not if I go to them first." I muttered, leaving the room.

FLASH BACK ENDS

"What do you mean by you made us bring you here?" One of the second-high lords stood up and said, I recognized him to be the one who sent the letter, as his robe has the same symbol as that on the letter.

I scoffed inwardly, "He must be drunk to think I'll kneel before him begging for mercy." I thought.

If I told them everything Killian said about the pill, I might not be able to catch the culprit and my pack would be in danger. The only solution is to lie low, but I will show them that I'm not one to be controlled.

"What I meant was that I wanted to come see what the council of werewolves is like. I have a pack and you all know I'll be joining this council."

Their murmurs became louder, with many of them against me joining the council.

"She is a woman, there is no way she will be joining the council." An Alpha said.

"How ridiculous will it be for a lady to have a pack? It's an insult to be Alpha." Another Alpha said.

I looked at Bryan, waiting for him to speak. He finally stood up, hitting his desk to silence the others. "For a woman to stand up and say she wants to rule a pack, it's a big shame." He looked at me, his expression plain, making him unreadable.

"She will definitely become a threat in the future. I say, we seize her now."

Behind me, dozens of guards were coming. My eyes caught sight of a spear at the center of the room.

The moment my fingers brushed the hilt, something ignited inside me. Power roared through my veins.

I tightened my grip and pulled. The earth shook. The spear slid free, as if it had simply been waiting for me to claim it.

A deafening silence followed. Then loud gasps. Even the guards paused. Everyone stood on their feet, Bryan was not left out. His eyes turned red, shock written all over his face.

I had no ideas what was with their sudden reactions, but I cared less. I won't run away. Proving weak will only be a means for them to exploit me more.

"Impossible!" someone gasped.

"She—she lifted it!"

"This can't be!"

"Only one person had ever lifted it. And even he had barely held it before dropping it back into place."

Huh? I looked at them perplexed, it's just an ordinary spear.

I swung it effortlessly and held it beside me, hitting it on the floor. The hall rumbled as if an earthquake occurred.

"It had been here for years, untouched, immovable. No one knew how it had arrived. No one knew why it could not be lifted. Only one man had ever managed to raise it—a single, fleeting moment before he dropped it in exhaustion. The High Lord of the Western Territory. Since then, it had remained rooted in the stone."

The Alpha next to Bryan said.

I finally understood why they were shocked. A smile crept on my lip as an idea kicked in.

But then Bryan's voice cut through the tension. "She's a threat. We need to lock her up, now."

I laughed.

And with a single movement, I threw it.

The spear whistled through the air, faster than any eye could follow. It struck the wall just above the Bryan's heads.

The impact sent cracks spiraling through the stone. Dust rained down as the chamber trembled beneath its force.

They screamed and some scrambled away, others remained frozen in place.

But I did not move.

I had not thrown the spear in rage. It was a warning.

I turned back to the Council.

Bryan gripped the arms of his seat, his face pale.

"This... this is madness," the second-high lord of the west rasped. "Put down the spear."

I walked forward, my voice steady. "No."

"You cannot defy the Council—"

I leaped, twisting midair, my hand gripping the embedded spear. With a powerful yank, I pulled it free.

Dust cascaded down like falling snow.

The guards rushed forward.

I moved before they could react.

The first one lunged—only for my spear to slash through the air, its blunt side striking him in the chest. He crumpled with a groan.

The second came at me from behind. I ducked, spinning low, sweeping his legs out from under him. He hit the ground hard.

A third raised his sword. But I was quick, I struck his wrist, the blade clattering to the ground. A swift kick sent him sprawling.

More followed, but they were no match.

I was faster and stronger. But I made sure not kill them.

I wanted to prove a point. They thought I was weak. They thought I would kneel. They thought they could control me.

I would show them otherwise.

The second lord of the east rose to his feet.

"I said, seize her!" he roared.

More men came after me, unknown to me, it was a distraction.

I felt a sharp strike behind me, pain exploded in my ribs.

I stumbled, my grip faltering. The spear clattered to the ground.

And then—The last thing I saw before everything faded was a pair of familiar, hateful eyes.

Bryan.

A smirk curled at his lips.

Then—nothing.
