Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 755. Searching For the Target
Yao Ai dispelled her domain after informing Amon of what few details she had on the special mission. She left afterward.
Amon was puzzled as to why Yao Ai did not ask for his black space ring. From her reaction, she knew what the ring was and its capability. He wondered why it was so. He didn’t push his luck. Though he was curious, he didn’t ask her about the ring, in case the question changed her mind and she wanted to take it.
Before Yao Ai left, she announced to the audience that all the crews under Lu Kang are now assigned to Amon. Lu Kang had a much larger crew than Wi Zhuang did, so Amon could be said have more influence than Wi Zhuang now. Wi Zhuang didn’t mind. When Wi Zhuang came to congratulate Amon, he even said that if one day Amon became a Warlord, which he said was sure to happen, he would request a transfer to work under Amon.
Amon chuckled and told him not to regret this decision, for he would force all his underlings to devote their lives to working for him.
Wi Yin was promoted to an enforcer to lead Amon’s previous crew. That crew was originally under Wi Zhuang’s command, so Wi Yin’s crew remained under Wi Zhuang’s leadership.
As for Lu Kang’s crew, Amon called for an assembly. He got rid of all of Lu Kang’s immediate relatives who bore the surname Lu in the crew. He told them to quit the faction or find another crew. A few protested, but he made short work of them by beating them to a pulp. Though faction members were prohibited from fighting one another, there was never a strict imposition. Plus, he was their superior. He had the right to teach them a lesson physically if they talked back to him.
After cleaning up his newly gained crew, he ordered them to go to the mission center and start picking up missions. He gave them a quota of completing one mission a month. He would gain a portion of their earnings every time a mission was completed. He warned them there would be hell to pay if he learned that they slacked off when he returned.
After sorting out his affairs, he departed for Unruly Neglect Town. As he had learned, Slayers mostly worked alone without backup from their crews. They served as the faction’s covert agents. All secret missions were entrusted to Slayers.
He stored his faction uniform and donned common attire. The journey to the Unruly Neglect Town in the Devotion Domain took him a bit more than one month. The long traveling time was because he didn’t use the Great Sun Hawk. There were also no facilities to rent a flying transport, like in Aetheria. The faction provided a flying transport service, but not between the domains. If he used one, he would be tagged as a person of interest once he entered the Devotion Domain. Hence, he travelled on foot by hiring a riding mount, like most travelers in this lower realm did.
As someone incognito, his journey was hardly peaceful. He didn’t enjoy the protection from the faction, and he was alone, so he became a target for most other travelers. In this lower realm, one could say all the travelers were no different than bandits.
Thankfully, common travelers were mostly weak cultivators, for lower realm standards. There were rare occasions of a Peak Fiendish cultivator among the travelers. But as he had proven in his match with Lu Kang, he had no trouble dealing with a cultivator of this level. Hence, he easily proved to those other travelers who targeted him that they had committed a terrible mistake. He left a string of corpses in his wake, which baffled the other travelers who walked the same road as him.
"That is Unruly Neglect Town?" Amon asked. He had followed the map provided by the faction, but he still wanted to confirm it since this was his first time here.
"It is," Bo Wu confirmed. It then added, "Try to constrain yourself in this town. The members of Hai Di’s faction are similarly unruly as Yao Ai’s, but their management is better. He has many undercover faction members among the populace to monitor the general public. If you draw too much attention, you will enter his radar."
"I see. Thanks for the warning."
"No sweat, partner. Even when you didn’t let me consume those travelers you killed, I bear no grudge. We are on the same boat, after all."
Amon smirked at the sarcastic remark. "You consume some against my will during the battles. If I let you eat the ones I kill as well, you will overeat. It’s not good to overeat."
"Fuck you! What do you know about a hell beast? There is no such thing as overeating for us!"
"Whatever. Now, hide. I don’t want you attract attention inside that town." Amon walked toward the town before him. Bo Wu grumbled grudgingly while returning to his tattoo form.
Like the settlements in the Mercy Domain, the Unruly Neglect Town also had no defensive walls or a protective barrier. Anyone could just waltz into the town. However, Amon spotted more sentries compared to the settlements in Yao Ai’s domain. As Bo Wu stated, he could see that Hai Di was indeed better on the management side, or at least, cared more about it than Yao Ai did.
The nearest sentry had his eyes on the travelers who entered the town, but otherwise did nothing. Amon entered with a group of other travelers. He wore a cloak that covered most of his body, a common attire among many other travelers. There was no reason for the sentry to be suspicious of him.
Amon walked around the town after entering it. He could see that the map he was provided was outdated. Much of the town layout didn’t match the map.
He heard Bo Wu’s voice in his mind. ’How are you going to search for this man...’
’Zee Whang,’ Amon responded to Bo Wu silently.
’Are you sure he is the one we are looking for?’
’It’s I who is looking. You are just a passenger. Yes, I’m pretty sure. He fits the description. He was taken by someone who knew Xin Lie, and Xin Lie works for Hai Di.’
’What are you going to do once you find him? Recruit him into the Mercy Faction?’
’No.’
’So, you want to kill him? You still have a grudge against him from before?’
’No.’
’Mm... You kind of lost me there, partner.’
’I’m going to present him with a third option.’
’Which is?’
’To work for me.’
Amon heard Bo Wu’s weird laughter. From the sound, it was not a patronizing laugh. Bo Wu was genuinely amused by the statement to the point of uncontrollable laughter.
After a long, seemingly unending laughter, Amon finally heard his hell passenger speak again. ’Oh... That was good. You don’t strike me as a person who jokes, so it is kind of unexpected, which is what all good jokes are.’
’I don’t joke,’ Amon stated.
’Exactly, which is what makes it so funny. Oh... I’m still laughing. Okay, let’s say you are serious. What makes you think he will want to work for you instead of choosing to work for, I don’t know, the most powerful person in this realm? He has the luxury to choose between Hai Di or Yao Ai, why the hell does he want to consider you?’
’Hai Di and Yao Ai won’t be the one who provides him with the options. I will. Furthermore, I know him better than the domain lords. I know what makes him tick.’
’That’s pretty confident of you.’
’I always am.’
’Whatever. Back to my first question, how do you plan to search for this Zee Whang? Are you going to walk around the town until you stumble upon some information?’
’I’m walking around the town, not to look for information about Zee Whang. I’m walking around the town to look for places where faction members of the Devotion Domain gather.’
’That should be the faction hub or the mission center.’
’Yes. Luckily, we have a tavern directly opposite the building.’ Amon was standing before two large buildings. As in Saintly Sin City, the mission center and faction hub were built next to each other.
He could find the buildings because it was not difficult to identify the faction members. Like in Mercy Domain, the faction members in this domain also wore uniformed vests. The difference was that the vests worn by the faction members of this domain were black.
Amon entered the tavern opposite the mission center and faction hub. He looked for a table beside the window and sat there. He became a regular at that tavern. Every day, he came and gave big tips. Hence, the tavern reserved a table for him near the window. He spent several weeks doing this reconnaissance.
’There are so many faction members. How are you determining who has the information about Zee Whang,’ Bo Wu asked. ’These faction members did multiple missions. Even fellow faction members mostly don’t know what missions the others do. Are you going to interrogate them all?’
