Chapter 169: Chapter 169. Heading Down

Amon could hear her conversation. Li Shi asked as Amon requested. Zong Kui informed her the situation was still the same as yesterday. He enquired why she asked. Li Shi told him about Amon’s claim that he felt a heavier headache. Zong Kui laughed and said that probably Amon’s mind hadn’t healed enough from yesterday. That’s why Amon found it more difficult to bear the mental pressure exuded by the ruin.

Amon didn’t bother about Zong Kui’s ridicule. He was grinning after hearing confirmation that the others were still feeling the headache. This meant after he broke through the illusion yesterday, either the enchanted formation had marked him as a non-intruder, or his mind had developed an immunity to the mental pressure from this ruin.

Li Shi, however, thought Zong Kui’s assessment was sound. She asked Lin Mo, "Are you okay? Do you want to take a rest for today?"

"There is no need. I can still bear this," Lin Mo replied. He walked forward without waiting for Li Shi’s response.

In a short time, he reached the part where he stopped yesterday. It was marked by the amount of debris on the floor. He continued while picking up the debris on the floor, increasing his stock of Blackstone fragments. He didn’t clean the debris entirely. He left some. If it was too clean, the soldiers would get suspicious when they came down here.

Even without the illusion hindering him, it still took him some time to walk around the corridors. The ruin was adequately large, and there were many intersections. After some time, he arrived at a corridor where it had half-collapsed, revealing a large hole that led to the floor below. Amon squatted and looked down. The light from the bright flare stone in his hand couldn’t reach the floor below. So, he couldn’t see what was down there.

Amon closed his eyes and focused on his hearing, trying to check if there was any sound from down there. There was nothing.

Amon opened his eyes and threw the bright flare stone down. The stone was still shining brightly for a few seconds after leaving Amon’s hand. Allowing him to see the stone hitting the floor around twenty meters down. The space below was rather large. It was probably a hall. The bright flare stone died down soon. Darkness returned down there.

He didn’t see anything suspicious when the bright flare stone briefly illuminated the space down there. So, it should be safe for him to go down. However, the floor down there was twenty meters away. If he couldn’t find stairs to return to this floor, he could be trapped down there. His current cultivation only allowed him to jump five meters of height.

He took out a second bright flare stone. He already had one before he received the second one from Li Shi. He got this stone when he killed the three Lin brats during his first Lin clan’s mission. He activated this second stone and looked around the place. He saw one of those lantern fixings on the wall.

He approached one and grabbed its handle. He then lifted his legs while hanging on the lantern fixing. The fixing was still solid. It could hold his weight.

After making sure of that point, he took out a rope from his space ring. He had prepared many mundane tools. He never knew when he would need one, such as his current situation. He tied one end of the rope to the lantern fixing and threw the other end down the floor below. freewёbnoνel.com

After ensuring the rope was properly fixed, Amon jumped down to the floor below.

Although he couldn’t jump twenty meters high with his current cultivation, landing from a twenty-meter fall was no problem. His feet touched down on the floor without a hitch. He then picked up the other bright flare stone he had dropped and stored it in his space ring.

He surveyed the room. It was indeed large. An extremely large hall, to be exact. There were remains of chairs, benches, and tables that had rotted for a very long time. There were also statues or sculptures which had deformed beyond recognition. He thought they were probably sculptures depicting humans when they were still intact.

From the look of it, this place used to be a gathering hall or some sort. He walked around, trying to find something valuable. That was his primary purpose, after all. He didn’t bother with the blackstone debris on the ground. He had collected plenty of it. If he couldn’t find any other valuable things, then only would he come back to collect this debris.

He arrived at what might be the entrance door to this hall. The ceiling in that part had collapsed and blocked the entrance. He tried to move the blockage, but the stones were very heavy, even for his cultivation level. It was another of Blackstone’s properties. It was a heavy material. Low-level cultivators won’t be able to use any weapon forged from this material because it would be too heavy for them.

Since he couldn’t go outside from there, he resumed his walk around the hall.

He saw on the wall some murals. The drawings on the murals depicted something. The murals consisted of several panels along the wall. He guessed it was telling some kind of a story. This could probably be what Li Shi was looking for. A tale related to ancient times. He could report this to Li Shi now. Possibly scored those extra academic points by doing so and shut the others up for underestimating him, but he chose not to.

It was too soon. He would do it later. He needed to make sure first if he could find anything for himself down here.

He went one circle around the hall. The other walls also contained murals, but some of them were slightly broken. There was a raised platform, which could be a podium, where the host addressed those who gathered in this hall. Behind the podium was another mural. This mural was one big piece illustrating a crowd, but it was obvious the crowd was divided into three groups.

The first group was situated at the top part of the mural. They all wore some sort of ceremonial robes and were standing on what Amon thought to symbolize clouds. Everyone in this group was drawn in an obvious way that showed contempt. They were all also looking down.

The second group was placed at the center. They seemed to depict the commoners. People who were working the fields, selling wares, and building houses. There was one similarity to the faces of the individuals in this group. They all showed terrified expressions.

The third group was at the bottom of the mural. They seemed like savages who clawed their way out of the underground. All of them wore angry expressions on their faces. There were also depictions of flames from where they came out from.
