Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 84: Changes in the Space
Chapter 84: Chapter 84: Changes in the Space
Leng Pan felt her heart skip a bit. She stood still and quietly clenched her fist. Lu Zhen, feeling her nervousness, caressed the back of her hand with his thumb to calm her down.
She took a deep breath and kept quiet. After a few seconds, it looked like the zombie didn’t find anything and turned to face forward again.
’That was a close call’ Leng Pan thought as she proceeded to descend into the pit with Lu Zhen. She didn’t know if touching the meteorite might cause problems so she didn’t dare to touch it directly.
Luckily for her, she didn’t need to touch stuff to store them into her space, she just needed to be close enough.
Being only a meter away was close enough, so she directly put the meteorite into her space. There wasn’t much reaction from the zombies. It looked like the residual effects of the meteorite were still strong and the zombies hadn’t realized that their object of interest had been taken.
However, as soon as Leng Pan and Lu Zhen got close to the meteorite, they had felt a reaction deep into their blood. They felt a spike in their superpowers and Leng Pan’s reaction was intense when the meteorite entered her space.
She felt everything around and inside her shift. She could feel the water particles in the air and the mist she had formed as a barrier to protect them became more solid. Almost tangible.
She almost couldn’t handle the impact and collapsed in Lu Zhen’s arms. What was even more bizarre was that the space she acquired from the bangle pulsed. As if reacting to something.
It felt as if it had come alive for a moment. Lu Zhen wasn’t very different from Leng Pan when it came to the first reaction as he was too close to the meteorite.
His fire ability spiked as well. It felt as if their powers were not just advancing, but mutating.
Thinking that his fire was already a mutated version, he didn’t know what it would become if it mutated further.
However, he didn’t have much time to wonder as he was worried about the woman who had collapsed in his arms for the second time that day.
She had not passed out, but looked like she was taking on a lot. He bent down and picked her up and, worrying that in her condition, she might not be able to maintain the mist barrier protecting them, he used his own fire ability to surround them.
This ended up charging the mist and turning it into very hot and mutated steam that could melt bones. Even the zombies near the mist moved further back.
The two were too pre-occupied to notice this. Lu Zhen moved fast as he was afraid they would run out of spiritual power before getting out of the encirclement of the zombies.
He was also worried that the residual energy from the meteorite would disappear and alert those man-eating creatures.
As soon as he was out, he hurried into the truck and put Leng Pan inside.
"Hold on baby, we’ll be out of here soon and we can find a solution to your situation." He said to Leng Pan who, although conscious, was in too much pain to talk or move.
Lu Zhen went around the truck to the driver’s seat and drove the truck away.
Even with the noise, only a few zombies ran after the truck for a while but stopped after a short distance. They turned around and went back.
Lu Zhen breathed a sigh of relief when he exited the town center. However, he didn’t drive back home but went in the opposite direction.
Even though he wasn’t sure if someone saw them, he was smart enough not to bring danger to their safe haven. After driving for thirty kilometers, he parked in an underground garage of an abandoned office building.
This ensured that there weren’t any survivors around since the building had been abandoned a long time ago and the number of zombies was small.
He carried Leng Pan into the building and since it was during the day, they didn’t need lighting as natural light was enough.
Walking into an office that hadn’t been used for some time, he put her down first and took off his jacket and laid it on the sofa in the reception area then picked her up and laid her on it.
"Are you okay baby?" Lu Zhen asked as he caressed her sweaty face.
He didn’t know what was happening, but he knew that it had something to do with that meteorite.
He wished he hadn’t encouraged her to take it away. What did it matter if zombies evolved and more people suffered? As long as she didn’t suffer, it was okay.
Leng Pan felt the pain and discomfort subside and she could finally speak.
"I am fine, it’s just that my powers spiked too quickly and my space bangle somehow reacted to the meteorite. It’s as if there is a relation between the two." Leng Pan replied as she comforted the panicking man.
"That’s good, I was worried to death. I thought something was going to happen to you, then I would never forgive myself." He muttered as he held her hand tightly.
With their hands intertwined and fingers interlocked, Leng Pan could feel that his temperature was higher than normal.
She could bet that if she didn’t have the water ability protecting her from him, she would have been burnt by now, but he had been too worried about her to notice his own situation.
"You are about to catch fire yourself. Maybe you should take a deep breath, calm down, and regulate your ability." She said as she moved her hand.
Only then did Lu Zhen notice that something had changed in his ability. He could feel the heat around him even when he hadn’t produced flames.
"It looks like my ability has upgraded and mutated again. I can control both flames and heat intensity. But I might need to practice some more to gain complete control." Lu Zhen explained after examining himself through meditation.
"Looks like that meteorite is something extraordinary. I wonder if it could help little brother and uncle upgrade their superpowers too.
Or maybe it can help Mom and aunt awaken." Leng Pan voiced her thoughts as she used her consciousness to check the condition of the meteorite in the space.
She was shocked to see the changes that had occurred both in the space bangle and the meteorite itself.
